Smoky Bacon Burgers
SMOKY BACON BURGERS
Prep: 10 minutes
Broiling: 10-15 minutes
A touch of liquid smoke and a wrapping of bacon give these burgers an outdoors taste and added juiciness.
FOR 4 SERVINGS YOU WILL NEED:
1 lb very lean ground beef
1 egg
1/2 finely chopped onion
3/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 to 1 tsp. liquid smoke flavoring
4 slices bacon
4 lettuce leaves
4 tomato slices
4 toasted hamburger buns
PREP:
1. Combine beef, egg, onion, salt, black pepper and liqid smoke, blending well. Divide into quarters. Shape each quarter into a thick patty. Wrap a strip of bacon around outside of each patty. Hold with a toothpick.
2. Place burgers on oiled broiler rack. Broil 5 to 6 inches from source of heat for 5 to 8 minutes on each side or until meat is done to your liking.
3. To serve, put lettuce and tomato on toasted hamburger buns. Top with cooked patties (removing toothpicks first).
TIPS:
You may prepare the meat patties ahead, cover and refrigerate until ready to cook. If desired, patties may be cooked over a charcoal grill.
