NYC’s San Loco Restaurants To Celebrate Their 20th Anniversary With 20¢ Tacos On May 20th

NEW YORK, NY — They say if you can make it here you can make it anywhere and that’s what San Loco has done. May 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the company. With four restaurants and twenty years of success under its belt, San Loco will be celebrating by offering their customers tacos for 20 cents* on Sunday, May 20th, 2007 in all NY area locations.

20 years in NYC is no small feat in a time where small restaurants are either priced out by exorbitant rents, close within a few years because of slow business or have larger chains grabbing their clientele. San Loco has not only held their own but is getting bigger—its new location in Williamsburg, Brooklyn boasts seating for 65, a full bar and a pool table making it a place where you can grab a bite and a few drinks while you chill with friends. While the name ‘San Loco’ first became well known amongst the many after-hours New Yorkers spilling out of the bars and seeking food to satisfy their post-party hunger, it has grown well beyond just a tiny late-night joint.

The Hard Sell on the Hard Shell
Taco lovers are encouraged to stop by any of the four New York City based San Loco restaurants from 11am to 4 am on May 20. During the event, consumers will pay only 20 cents (plus applicable tax)* for either a beef, bean or rice hard shell taco. 20/20/20 is the perfect opportunity to try a famous San Loco taco.

San Loco’s marketing agency, Two Sheps That Pass… developed the 20/20/20 promotion, as a way for San Loco to show their customers appreciation for twenty years of support. There will be an online marketing component and print advertising campaign to promote and create awareness for the event.

* Offer valid at all four NY area San Loco locations on May 20, 2007. Limit five (5) per customer. Hard shell beef tacos and bean/rice tacos only. Offer is not valid for delivery service. Tax is not included. Offer available while supplies last.

About San Loco
The independently owned and operated restaurants deliver fresh, high quality and affordable food that is always made to order. San Loco is renowned for offering good food that comes out fast, goes down easy, and won’t set you back much at all. Everything on the menu is made from scratch– from the slow-simmered chipotle chicken, to their specialty pork pipian, to guacamole that’s the real deal…fresh avocados, spices and the juice of fresh limes. The first San Loco was born in 1986 and opened in early 1987 on the corner of 2nd Ave. and St. Mark’s Place in New York City. Founder Darrell Nelson, a corn-fed Nebraska farm boy, has fused Mexican together with his far north-of-the-border family home cooking creating the taste that is in San Loco restaurants today.

Recognized on several occasions, San Loco has been Zagat rated as, “Always fresh & spiced to your liking.” AOL CityGuide.com named it ‘Best Late Night Dining’, ‘Best Cheap Eats’ and ‘Best Mexican’ while Village Voice ranked San Loco among the top 40 best Latin restaurants. It’s received glowing reviews from Time Out New York, was dubbed ‘Best Pre-Booze Snack’ by Shecky’s, ‘Best Cheap Taco’ at NY Press’ Readers Awards and ‘Best Food Value’ by Lonely Planet City Guide. Not to mention winning all around ‘Best Taco’ by New Times three consecutive years in a row. For more information, visit www.sanloco.com. (review on the HSB here)

San Loco locations:
124 2nd Avenue (between 7th St. & St. Mark’s Pl.)
151 Avenue A (between 9th St. & 10th St.)
111 Stanton St. (between Essex & Ludlow)
And now in Williamsburg! 160 N.4th St. (between Bedford & Driggs)

Lisa…Love your site, great to see the Ninfa’s green sauce recipe since they have shut down in DFW. Keep up the great work! You need to make plans to come back down for the Houston Hot Sauce festival…a lot of fun and a lot to write about. Keep you from being homesick for a few days anyway.

Grabbing a random thread here since the May ‘off topic’ isn’t to be found :-)

Surfacing from Copenhagen Denmark- greetings all! Having a great time, though ¤very¤ limited access to the internet and email. Helping a friend open up Denmark’s first chile pepper shop, review to follow eventually :-)

These folks think that ‘black pepper’ is as spicey as it gets and a Jalapeno is for those crazy’s into ‘extreme foods’!! Ever wonder what it must have been like for the first folks to show up with rifled cannon to a gathering of of people who thought the bow & arrow was high tech? :-) The grand opening of the shop is this Friday where I’m the featured ‘international guest celebrity’ :-P

My Stupid Hot is his biggest seller so far and has been in Denmark’s biggest newspaper twice and due out in a magazine Friday morning as well :-) CaJohn’s stuff is a close second…. of course ours are the only two products in the shop :-)

Beautiful city!!! Not likely to see any of the follow up comments since I only have very limited access to the email and internet, but thought I’d say ‘hi’. Keyboard is full of all sorts of odd keys (no idea how these will appear, but…) like ø æ å & ¤. Makes it hard to type!!

WOW Very impressive Jim! I know if I was in Denmark I would partake of the great beers around while I was there. But I know you like wine and you are there for business anyway :D Goodluck with the grand opening and have fun being an ‘international guest celebrity’!
