Review: Uncle Dougie’s Bang Zoom Sauce

Bang Zoom sauce is my third exposure to Uncle Dougie’s product line. I periodically use the Chicago style wing sauce and I really enjoyed the Bada Boom Habarnero Mustard Sauce.

Ingredients: Habanero peppers, Chipotle peppers, vinegar, tomato paste, garlic, salt, onion, chives, sugar, black pepper

On First Taste

The Chipotle flavor comes on strong, mixed heavily with garlic. That’s fantastic to my taste, since the roasted flavor of the pepper matches perfectly with the pungency of garlic. The proportion of the flavors is near ideal, as neither dominates, but each enhances and enlivens the other. It’s one of the better garlic chipotle balances I’ve found in a sauce.

Even though habaneros are listed first, there’s no habanero flavor to speak of. They do evidence themselves in the finish, though. There is little heat at first, but as the flavor is dying away a second rush of heat comes on. The heat ends up being ample – not as big a burn as the habanero mustard sauce, but enough to get the job done. The heat lingers, as well, allowing a nice burn to build up through continued consumption.

This sauce reminds me of Ring of Fire Chipotle Roasted Garlic Sauce. Since I’m a big fan of Ring of Fire, that’s quite a complement to Uncle Dougies.

On Food
I really like the taste of chipotle on fried foods, and I thought the garlic would add an interesting twist, so I used it on some fried shrimp.

The sauce was everything I hoped it would be, and complemented the fried shrimp very nicely. The heat was good, the flavor was good. The only complaint I have is one that goes with many chiptole sauces: the texture. It’s both too clumpy and too runny at the same time, so it’s difficult to pour and even more difficult to spread evenly. But that aside, I’m very pleased with Uncle Dougie’s Bang Zoom Sauce.

Overall Rating: 8.2 out of 10
