DeathMatch Sauce

Released at the 2008 Fiery Foods Show - Defcon Creator spent the weekend burning mouths (and tail pipes) with his latest creation - a bottled version of the Death Match sauce. The pallet is still en route from NM to NJ, so bottles are not yet available on the web (unless you want to pre-order). And one thing to note about the bottle - even though it appears as though it’s black, the bottle is actually clear! Now that’s a scary sauce!

Review: Besito Caliente Gourmet Sauce
Posted on 03.04.08 by Nick Lindauer @ 8:08 am | Comments: 3 Comments |

While I’m not yet finished with my show recap post, I did want to get right into talking about some of the great products that we discovered at the show. Besito Caliente was actually the last sauce that Cheffy & I tried on Sunday - and even though we both had said earlier that we were done buying, it was too good to pass up. Trying it straight was fantastic but when we were told that it was great in margaritas, I don’t think we could get our money out fast enough.

Besito Caliente
This award winning gourmet sauce is an exciting combination of blackberries and habanero with a variety of uses. We suggest the following: marinade, glaze or dipping sauce for any kind of meat from fish to poultry to pork; salsa with chips; fresh fruit dip; with a brick of cream cheese as an appetizer; over ice cream, pancakes, waffles or crepes; flavoring a beverage such as coffee or a margarita; put it in cake batter to give an extra zing to your cake. 15.5 oz. bottle

Retail Price:
$9.00 each - Link to buy

If you simply try the sauce straight, the flavor of the blackberries is the first to hit your tongue - their sweet & slightly bitter balance is then met with a slight tickle of a habanero burn. And when I say tickle, I really do mean tickle - it leaves just a slight tingly sensation on the tongue. The syrup spreads nicely and has the consistency of a traditional maple syrup (think pancakes!).

Besito Caliente Margaritas

The Perfect Margarita
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz. Patron Silver Tequila
1/2 oz. Besito Caliente Sauce
2 oz. sweet & sour mix
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. orange liqueuer
1/2 cup cracked ice
1/4 cup margarita salt (optional)

Directions: Pour first 5 ingredients into a medium sized shaker, add the cracked ice, cover and shake. Pour into salted margarita glass. Top with a splash of lime juice. Enjoy!

Now if you were at the show and missed this product, that’s understandable - their booth was right next to the Salsa King booth at the start of the far left aisle and Besito Caliente wasn’t the main product they were featuring. This sauce is truely one of my favorite finds at the show and will most certainly be on my list of items to re-order. Not only does it make a great margarita (I had 4 last yesterday) but I’m going to be trying it on pancakes and many other applications. And for me, a non-sweet sauce type, to really enjoy a sweet based sauce - well, I can’t think of a better compliment. Two big thumbs up from Cheffy & I!
