Blair & CaJohn’s Step Up For Charity Reserves

66,000 stairs. The equivalent of over 35 runs up the Empire State Building. Just short of 9 vertical miles. All in one 24 hour period.

On August 16th 2006, Jim Campbell, Indianapolis (Pike Township) firefighter/hot sauce maker/chile pepper farmer, will attempt to break the worlds’ record by exceeding those totals, all to raise money for several charities that are especially close to him. Jim Campbell is a well respected member of the chilehead community and to honor him, Blair & CaJohn have created these special reserves.

All proceeds from the sale of these reserves will be donated to Jim’s Step Up For Charity Fund.

Each of these reserves is numbered 1-5 (#3 Set up for grabs in this auction) and each bottle features signatures from both Blair & CaJohn! Each collector’s bottle is sealed using a 3 colored wax combination never before used on any reserves from either of these two illustrious hot sauce manufacturers.

Each bottle is signed by Blair & CaJohn and numbered (1-5). This auction is for the #3 Set.

There was also a question posed to Nick by someone.
Are offline offers open for negotiation. The answer was a resounding NO, there is no price for offline sales. I imagine 10grand would land you a bottle (charity wold be the reason for that :) ) but they are looking for fair honest auctioning of these it sounds like so everyone has an even fair shot. Good for them to not be able to be bought!!! :) of course maybe it was because I only offered a hundred bucks LOL.
Cudos to that, sucks for me :) I made an offer offline chuckle

Jim I have been wondering about the stair climb thing.
It states 66,000 in 24 hours. Do you get to go for 3 hours do a bunch then take a break, get a massage type of thing then resume the efforts after consuming nutrients. Or do you have to go non stop?

I have just been wondering, seems a little tough to have to go non stop. Btu with breaks and the sports massage you were talking about might make things a little better for you I hope.

I’m not sure how much time Jim will be able to take off - According to my calculations he must climb 2,750 per hour or 45.833 stairs per minute for 24 hours straight to reach 66,000 stairs in 24 hours.

Yeah its alot, however he did state that he did 30,000 yesterday (or the day before) and i dont think he was at the gym for 10 hours so i am guessing his pace is allot faster than that. However it will be interesting to see what he has to say on that. I have been wondering that (because of the specs you mention especially) for a while now.

My understanding from the Guiness folks (Book, not beer) is that it’s simply “here’s 24 hours, how many can you do?” As such, yes- I do indeed intend to take breaks! I figure I’ve room for 4 hours of breaks and 20 hours on the machine itself. The ‘record pace’, doing the math the same as you did (just under 1/sec), is what I’m using for a ‘resting pace’. Training pace on speed days (2 hours or less like this morning ’cause I have 2 pallets of hot sauce to unload) is over 2/sec. Endurance days are at 1.75/sec (5 hours or more). If anyone is *really* interested, I’ve posted the stats on the StepUp site under the journal entries. The massage guy already has said he’d be happy to help out day of & trust me- I’ll need him ;-)

Yeah, seems odd that there would be a problem with the charity aspect of the auction, but there are hundreds of Blairs and CaJohns items sold on Ebay all the time and they dont get pulled, so it does seem to point in that direction… very odd indeed :|

Jim - Its because your charity is not recognized by eBay. I’ll take care of it and re-list per their regs and make it happen again.

Nick, do not put “Charity” in the “title” when you list this again… When I ran the auction for Jim, I only mentioned the word “donated” within my description, but not the title. I ran into the same problem before I listed.

Lame-o indeed! I can think of a few other titles ;-) I hope the bidding goes even higher to spite whoever it was.

That is quite a LAME deal… I am sure it will all work out for the best Jim…Guess someone was mad that they weren’t winning, to complain about a great cause that the bottles were for….

eBay encourages community members to be active in supporting charitable endeavors. Because charitable fundraising is a highly regulated area subject to numerous state and federal laws, eBay has partnered with MissionFish to make charitable listing easy and has created very specific guidelines for when charitable solicitations will be allowed on eBay.

Non-MissionFish listings

1. Sellers may only list items on behalf of a charity if the charity has provided advance written consent for the solicitation. To prove that you have obtained that consent, you must include a scanned copy of the consent in the listing.

2. Sellers may only solicit on behalf of recognized 501c3 or 501c4 charitable organizations.

So basically, it means that the auction needs to be ran as a “regular” auction in order to dance around the red tape. It sucks, but it’s the only way to get around the bs.

Well it will actually it will end next thursday not wednesday. But no big deal, just gives it longer for exposure.
I wouldnt get 100% carried away, however, it could have been anyone not just a blogger, but rather someone doing a regular search on charity, and sees something they don’t recognise and dont understand this hot sauce thing. So probably reported it out of precaution that no one was pulling a fast one. That is more likely what happened, I can not believe one of us here would do something like that. Someone might be upset it is so expensive, however, people here have come to expect it from some of the collectibles in this hobby.

Just my 2 cents worth.
If anyone feels like giving change feel free LOL.

Yeah you could be right, but all they had to do is check into what was going on with this auction and not go to ebay right away and complain

There are some very anal people with a lot of distruse and jealousy, that maybe there charity efforts in a month or year do not see what this one bottle would do in a week.
Hey, I’m not saying,, I’m just sayin’… one never knows what happened. eBay sure would not reveal it i am pretty sure of that. Damn they locked my paypal once, and it took me a month to unlock it, and NEVER did i get a reason from them.

Yeah I know there are a lot of people out there like that, not disagreeing(sp?) with you. I am just giving you a little guff………..And as for ebay, they are way to big to give us little guys any reason for anything they do…
