j/k, Unfortunately I would never pay that type of $ for a 5oz’er But I have to admit some of those are pretty nice looking, especially when you know there were only a handful made. Blair says 10 but something tells me there is an 11th in his collection .

my thought on it was it’s like seeing a movie remake, first it’s all simple and black and white, a few years later it’s all color and in your face, He did a great job preserving the overall look while changing it enough to get your attention, absolutely fabulous!!!!

Yes INCaneFan, These sauces are one of the 10 grand prize sets for the “Cutting Room Floor” contest, it has been awhile ago, I sent in my submission back around 1/26, The winners were announced I think on 3/13. They were not available for purchase, I wish they were- some good looking labels.

thought these are some of the best labels I’ve seen; I will not pay a dime for these since I never did anything to deserve them.

In my humble opinion thak, you may not have turned in a contest entry but if a set becomes available to you I would hope that you would take what was offered, whether it be through ebay, or some other route. your a collector, so collect them if they become available, I didn’t do anything for them but I would pay many dimes if they come up

Maybe, but I think not. There are too few of these sets, and too few of the owners will be willing to put them on the market, IMO.

Just curious, since I think with all the new “collector items” out there, it’s probably getting close.

I’ve been collecting for such a short amount of time, but there seems to have been such a massive influx lately in the amount of cool new things/one off items recently. There’s been a boom in the “collecting” market in regards to the prices things are bringing. A couple of the producers I met mentioned how it’s just been crazy as of late. Seems like most are trying to cash in and who can fault them?

I know that I would’ve bought all the recent CaJohn’s items if it were in the budget, but it simply isn’t/wasn’t. Really liked the egg, banjo set, and the hab set. Still thinking about the star one, but no rush to get it even though it might not be there one day. Plenty of others I like as well, those were just my top ones if money were no object.

Basically what I’m getting at is that there really seems to be a lot of stuff out there that I’m somewhat shocked hasn’t already been sold off completely. Example would be the “Eruption” Lava Dome by CaJohn. No clue how many of the first ones were made, but when I ordered mine it had been available for a week or two and I was able to get #22 which was one of the numbers I’m interested in collecting. Maybe it was all timing since it wasn’t too long after the NewMex thing, but who knows.

I agree with Brian, I don’t think there is enough to flood the market because there are only a few sets, now if Blair had released hundreds of sets then yeah I would say it had been flooded. but that is not the case.

I can tell you guys this, my CRF collection will not be up for grabs as none of my collection is. I would hope that none of these wind up for sale unless someone needs to pay for an organ transplant or something. The vintage sets on the other hand, I can see those going up for sale, and we all know they will. I don’t think that any of the individual bottles would go for a whole lot, but a set might grab a pretty penny.

It will be interesting to watch; that much is for certain!

you can say whatever you like without being caned, sometimes it is hard to tell, none of the sites agree on a price ether I went to 6 sites and they all had everything for sale for different prices….no 2 like items were the same price…. go figure.

MSK has the most definitive set of CaJohns products second only to us of course. He will be cataloging it and I will be providing some historical information as to the time line. One of the things you must realize, when we first got into business it was a “hobby” business. We took a pretty much shotgun approach to try and build a business. We tried many things just to see what we could do best. Fortunately, most of what we tried worked (orunfortunately, look at the size of our product offering sheet now!) While not everything made it, I believed some would and they still don’t have a following today. There will be a big decrease in the products when we hit our next trade show (Ft. Worth), but there will be some new items as well. I colud go on for hours about this, but I think you will all be surprised at some of the things MSK will have up on his “Collection” site soon. Its that way with most sauces out there. Its whatever people are willing to pay for them. As for things aren’t necessarily collectors items, its that way with ALL retail establishments. Some people get better deals than others, and some charge more than others. A lot of that has to do with the state you’re in, and that’s where e-commerce becomes complicated. Sales accross state lines and internationaly through the web is very tricky when it comes to competition. You do what you can I guess. I find things cheaper than other sites all the time, but one reason I buy from one retailer than another, even though the prices may be a little higher, is the amount of selection. One stop shopping…that’s what its all about. And this concludes my lesson in retail purchasing.

you know thak, I have yet to win a contest or even enter, but I am not really interested in the resale value, I am more of a sentimental person, I have a bottle that means ALOT to me but may not be worth a million dollars, it was the thought and effort that went into it that makes it priceless. thak, it was never intended for the “Market” it is a product of passion for hot & spicy… We are all looking to be accepted in some way, I was just trying to please as many tastes as I could. Some of the new things are released as a “limeted edition” if they don’t sell, we just retire them. Nothing was ever mentioned about them being “collectable”. We could never have anticipated that market would embrace our stuff.

Hopefully…within the next couple of weeks I’ll all the CaJohns products on the site. I first have to enter them into the master database before I begin to transfer it over. Ya know what, Mrs Ryan is Hot Sauce Hottie #3 and that didn’t get much of a response. Am I to take that as she’s not attractive? That she isn’t worth anyone’s attention? The topic of conversation quickly turned in that thread, but its nothing personal, crap happens. Hell, I put some work into many pictures for the blog, because Nick told me to keep the funny stuff coming, and not all of them made it onto the site. And the ones that did, didn’t get much response except the helmet one. Am I to take that as they weren’t good enough, or that it was a waste of time? No. That’s just the nature of the beast. You can’t expect everything you do to be some stellar thing that’s going to put you in the spot light. I thought your crab thing was great. Crack the shell while raw and try an acid base or brine (salty) then do what you did and I’m sure you’ll see an improvement.

MSK got to try a deep-fried delicacy here at the neighborhood Mexican joint. They deep-fry split jalapenos for a couple of minutes and then squeeze fresh lime juice over them then sprinkle them with seasoned salt & chile powder. Yummy!!!

Sort of like cooking beans, put them in a stock pot, cover generously with water, add lots of salt, hot sauce and boil them for several hours at a rolling boil. You may have to add more water a couple of times. Cook until you get the desired doneness (I like a little snap to them, WW likes em mushy)

OK. Hello everyone that did not win a set.
I have managed to get a set of the cutting room floor and I am keeping a number of the bottles for myself, but I have some bottles I have to let go for financial reasons. I can not afford the whole thing but had to take it all or nothing. Did not want to haggle for just a few bottles and take the chance the seller went somewhere else.
As I typed this 2 bottles were just let go to a mutual collector. Congrats MrFreeze.

Sorry i have been busy jumping up and down and talking to Karin and I had my very first (35minute) conversation with Blair.
I am the absolutey proud owner of a Pre-production bottle of 6A.M.
As to the remark from Tim, I am sorry that tends to be the way some here think of me, but if you have (had) ever seen my collection, you would realise that I buy somethings with the intention of making it available to others. The cutting room floor is the perfect example. I bought the whole thing, and with the rememberance of how I felt that I would probably never see one of these, I have to give others the chance to own a bottle, my friends, fellow collectors and anyone else here that doesn’t care to know me, they are HSBers something that I have grown to enjoy. I have a static price and after the charity fees shipping paypal eBay etc. I make not a dime. But I am able to keep a few of the bottles for myself. I for one do not think that is a bad thing. I imaging MrFreeze and a few others do not either, or they would not have picked up a couple here and there. Tim if you have a set, good for you. If you do not, you can still own a piece of Blair’s CRF set, you are after all a fellow HSBer. Leave the cheap shots for the school yard please. I will do the same.

Should have been something like this…
If you had ever seen my collection you would realise that I am a diehard collector. My bottles and numbers all say one thing, that I have a passion to get what I want, and if I have to sell some things to make money to afford others, so be it. Then the whole thing about sharing so that others can own a piece of this set is mandatory. Even if I had won a set I would have shared a few bottles to some of the closer people I know.
I think that makes a little more sence LOL

thakswet, that is a terrible thing. I hope that you don’t need to do anyting like that just to get something fixed. I don’t have the same problem in Canada regarding health care. It is so unfortunate you don’t have the same type of coverage there as well.

pmac how did you get so lucky !!!!!! Never mind I know, take care of others and you will be taken care of. That is one awesome score on the 6am, I am just hoping to score a Blair t-shirt. They are always out of them. One day I will have to fortune of having a #1 or a pre-production bottle. Me myself I am sure I have some bottles that could fetch me some cash, but I don,t think I will ever sell…..possibly a trade or two…….but you never know how things will work out.
