Finally, an explanation for all this wasabi talk…
Blair is under taking a complete recipe & label revamp of his Wasabi Ginger Hot Sauce. The new ingredients include real wasabi rhizome - imported directly from Japan!
New Ingredient List: Purified water, soybean oil, jalapeno chiles, cane sugar, white vinegar, fresh tomatillo, Wasabi Rhizome, salt, lime juice, cilantro, ginger, mustard powder, green tea leaf, vitamin C, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric & citric acid.
Old Ingredient List: Jalapeno chilies, vinegar, Japanese horseradish, ginger, tomatillos, canola oil, onions, xanthan gum, sesame seeds, spices, natural food coloring.
So, as you can see, this sauce is under going a complete recipe change. Not only that, but collectors of Blair’s sauces may want to hang on to their unopened Q Heat bottles, the old labels will soon be replaced with the new ones seen below:

In the image below, you can see that the previous neon green coloring of the sauce has been replaced with a sauce that looks less like alien ooze and much more like a hot sauce someone would like to eat.

The work that Blair has put into this recipe & label re-design speaks volumes to how it is going to taste & sell when it’s finally finished and ready for the masses (coming soon…). The label change will elevate this line from your standard run of the mill hot sauce product to a gourmet sauce that could be featured in the high-end gourmet stores as well as on hot sauce store shelves everywhere. I can’t wait to try out the Green Tea & Real Wasabi combination on some Yellow Tail Sashimi…
And before you deluge Blair with questions on when the sauce will be released, note that the original Wasabi and Ginger is no longer being produced and they are expecting to roll out with the new Green Tea & Wasabi soon…

Okay, I’m ready. I’ll just sit and wait here until it is released. You’ll let us know, right?
Blair’s Wasabi Ginger Sauce (Wasabi Mayo)
I’ve recently rediscovered my taste for hot sauces and hot foods. 10 to 15 years ago we had hot sauces. We had chilies of all shapes and sizes, good ones too. But we didn’t have the huge volume of…
[...] The new Blair Q Heats are in stock, with the exception of the Wasabi Green Tea. Blair is still working on refining the recipe to come up with something worthy of the fine tastebuds of his legions of chilehead followers - so stay tuned for that announcement. [...]
[...] As previously discussed here, Blair has been working on rolling out his new Wasabi Green Tea Q Heat Sauce. The new recipe uses real wasabi rhizome which is then blended with Jalapeno chiles and Green Tea Leaves. So I decided to compare the flavor of the new Wasabi Q Heat to the old recipe, since there are no other Wasabi based hot sauces that I had handy. I bought some sushi from the sushi joint right up the street and got to work. [...]

WHY CAN’T YOU HAVE BOTH? NOTE COMMENT #7 “NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE WASABI GINGER” DO YOU HAVE ANY LEFT? AND IF NOT WHY CAN’T YOU MAKE BOTH. THE OLD ONE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE ALIEN OOZE……..AND IT TASTE GREAT!!!!!!! PLEASE I’LL BUY A CASE NOW. OUR LOCAL PEPPER STORE HAS REQUESTS FOR THE OLD ON ALL THE TIME FROM AT LEAST 11 PEOPLE I KNOW; PLEASE DON’T DISCONTINUE IT**** MAKE BOTH****** EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY.
We used to buy the wasabi ginger by the caseload. (we also agreed it had problems, ie. hard to get out of the bottle and not quite hot enough but we accepted these minor flaws. We liked the color; it made it stand apart from the rest) The creamy consistency and low calorie count made it perfect to use as a spread. We even made tuna salad with it instead of with mayo. It was yummy. One year we gave bottles to everyone as holiday gifts. The new stuff is thin and watery and you can not spread it on a sandwich or a burger. We have been searching for an alternative and have yet to find one. We wish Blairs would bring this one back.

Looks great. I’m wondering what the green tea is like in the hot sauce. Does it just give you a good caffeine buzz in addition to the heat of the wasabi?
