I was really excited to receive this. Talk about the perfect companion for a chili-head. I know there are different pepper powders available and I was lucky enough to get the Red Savina Powder Keychain as opposed to the others (which I am sure are great).

This little jar contains some powerful stuff. Simple, yet deadly, unadulterated Red Savina powder.
Unlike some of you guys out there I don’t bring my own sauce out to dinner (or the camera as a matter of fact) so this is the perfect item to bring along and use discreetly. I have two complaints about this item that is keeping it from getting a perfect score. One is the screw on top. Granted it does have a rubber seal around it but it still doesn’t make me feel comfortable enough to casually keep it in my pocket at all times. Having a pocketful of Red Savina powder (or another sauce once that is gone) doesn’t really make rush to put it on my keychain. If there was something that could be done to cap it tightly without the worry, this little container would get a perfect score. The other is the lack of a little filter to help regulate the powder coming out.

This is the hottest powder (rub) I have tried. It looks so innocent, nice and nestled in the container, but all it takes is a micro dash of this stuff to heat things up exponentially. Unlike its sauce counterparts the heat built up slowly. It gave you a chance to enjoy the subtle nuances of the pepper itself before it starts consuming your tongue.
As for its uses…well you name it. Sprinkle it on just about anything. With no vinegar in it, it is safe to dash it on whatever you feel like. So far I have tried it on popcorn and in soup. Later today I hope to add it in my marinade for some chicken breasts.
The other thing I really like about this is its price point (well at least for you yanks). It looks like it carries just under 1oz and it comes completely crammed to the top. Like I said before, once it is finished you can top it off with any other sauce. If you are comfortable carrying this around on your keychain or coat pocket this product is indispensable for a chili-head. Despite those two short comings I mentioned I am going to find a way to have this become one of my daily essentials like deodorant and a wallet.

Lucky!
I may have to pick up some of the Red Savina powder when I kill the jalepeno I got.
that’s so cute.
i want to hug it.
then eat it.
I’d like to address you concern about the container opening in your pocket. I’ve been carrying one with the Red Savina powder in it for over a year and it’s never come open. The other comment about a sifter top we’ve looked, but there are none to be found to fit that size container. I’m glan you like it though, and thanks.

Hi Captain Thom! That is somewhat reassuring that you have had it for over a year without incident. I think I may be able to find a small filter type thing similiar to what is used in water faucets that may work as a filter.
Good Morning Captain! Welcome to the Hot Sauce Blog!
Cant beat portable spice like that! You can make anything hot with this! I am thinking about getting one of these now. Thanks for the review!

Anthony, if you find one that fits, let me know! I’ll be ordering mine later.
You might want to look for stainless steel, so you won’t have a reaction to the natural acids in the pepper oils. Hope you if one that works that would be great!
Captain Thom
I ment hope you find one that works! Fat fingers.

Captain, any problems with clumping with this? I am very excited to get this!
looks cool. I’ll have to give this a try - you don’t find hot sauce in any restaurants over here!!
I’ve just realised there are 2 MattUK’s (1 of me at uni and 1 of me at home - If you hadn’t have guessed I’m at home now). Nick is there anyway of sorting this?

I’ve had no problems with clumping, but then again I use mine quite often.

Good to hear. Don’t worry, mine will get plenty of use as well!

Cool thanks Nick I’ll give it a try
I guess I’ll have to delete the cookies on my uni comp - just did it here and still no joy. Will sort it on Monday hopefully
For those who just get your powders from Cpt Thom, I ordered the
complete set of 4. I did not expect it to be filled that full when I
received them, unscrewed the first cap and whoa a handful of powder
to lick up. Open carefully until you use some. Great Set of 4 Peppers:
Jalo. Sav, Hab, Chip.
Transportable hot stuff on your key chain, nice!!
