The America’s Zesty Best Food Competition was held at the Orange County Fair Grounds in southern California on Friday, June 17th, 2005. This contest was the largest spicy food competition in the USA drawing more than 750 entries from across the country, all competing to be called America’s Zesty Best.

With television cameras rolling and Food Network representatives on hand, Daniel Matson made an amazing 10 trips to the winners’ podium to accept awards for Daniel’s Fire Roast! No other company in the country won as many awards as Daniel’s Fire Roast! This brings our 2005 national award count to 15, including five 2005 Scovie Awards, which was also more awards for salsa than any other company in that contest.

Daniel’s Fire Roast dominated the hotly contested competition with four 1st, four 2nd, and two 3rd place finishes.

Dan Matson, founder and owner of Daniel’s Fire Roast, began his professional career after winning the Amateur Zesty Best Award in January 2004. “I am very pleased to have had such a strong showing in my first professional America’s Zesty Best Awards. To compete against the best in the business and come away with ten awards is fantastic.” Matson continues, “We are striving to make the finest quality gourmet salsas that are unlike anything else currently on the shelves.”
