Defcon Day #3 - The Aftermath

« « Previous | Review: Nando’s Hot Peri-Peri Marinade » »

Well another Defcon Day has come and gone, considerably less wings were eaten but more people showed up. HSBers drove from SC, IN, PA and CT and all had a great time! The party started at 1 and some of us didn’t get home till 10 or 11 (the locals that is) - but that tends to happen when you get lost in Brooklyn. Wings and beer all day long.

Also, if you weren’t there you missed out on the first bottles of the Defcon Batch #2 Supersized bottles (more info here.) and the latest batch of the Habby Horse (new and improved recipe). But I hear there are bottles remaining (of both the Supersized Batch 2 and the Habby Horse) so drop The Creator an email and tell him the HSB sent you. :-)

Yeah, about that trip home . . .
Nick and I are fondly referring to it as the Death Ride.
But it’s all good; Death Match + Death Ride = Good Times!

Well, tentatively, as we discussed on Saturday, we are working on one slated for 8/19 at Duff’s in Brooklyn (right by the Williamsburg bridge).

We are also doing a demo for Whole Foods Supermarket in Millburn, NJ next Saturday (7/29) in front of the store. We are officially on there shelves right now, and if all goes according to the “Defcon Rules of Engagement”, we will be expanding our exposure into many more Whole Foods Supermarkets in the very near future. This should allow many people the ability to purchase our stuff closer to their home.

Creator, just want to tell ya, no regrets sitting out the Deathmatch. The sample was plenty to screw with me on the return trip home yesterday. ;) That was the hottest wing sauce I have ever tasted, crazy hot!

We gotta figure out a way to get a Defcon Day south of the Mason Dixon line. Even if it means that I have to do the Deathmatch. :)

Hey, how was it you didn’t even seem to flinch in the deathmatch? Not a tear, nothing!!!! We’ve been talking about it and just can’t make sense of it. Do you in fact have a tongue with tastebuds or did you rip it out somehow before you showed up? lol

It was definately hot, my normal reaction is the hiccups, which is what I had to stop for. Then I was just too far behind. If I thought they couldn’t sit there for the 10 minutes, I would have finished. Next time I have to finish no matter what, just to say I ate them all at least.

You all definately did a good job on the shots, may have to fall off the wagon for a day next time and join you in the shots. I thought for a minute you were gonna say, you were in the bathroom talking to Ralph on the big white telephone.

Well off to work….back later….

No sense in falling off the wagon, all I had was a headache all day Sunday! I’d definitely be up close and personel with Ralph if I joined in thats for sure! ” The big, white, telephone”, hahahaha.

How come Nick didn’t koin in the deathmatch? I saw the last photos he had bleeding eyes crying and all, so I don’t see how he wouldnt wanna participate in this one! Was the last contest the “Last” contest Nick? for heat at least?
So how did it work, was a speed eating deathmatch? If bigshow didnt even flinch was it because he took his time eating…I know too may questions, but hey we werent there so we need som particulars…

But it does not surprise me that a Hab farmer can hold his own and then some in a heat contest :)

I dont blame Nick a bit, I wasnt going to sit there either. ;-)

Creator is  :-)

They all had 10 wings and 5 minutes to eat them. After signing the waiver of course… Then they had to sit for 10 minutes at the table without anything to drink and sweat it out. Trick was you needed to finish your wings first cause if they all made it to the end and lasted the 10 minutes it was the first one that finished them was declared the winner.

Kristi, he was in the Defcon 1 contest. We got there just as the #2 contest started. I’m proud of him. I figured he would stop after a couple, but he actually got 8 down I think. He doesn’t eat a lot of spicy foods unless I instigate something at family gatherings. :) Originally he was gonna do the #2, but we arrived a little late for it. Gotta say he showed more guts than his uncle. ;)

Just wanna say, this comment is what I had pictured in my mind if I did the Deathmatch. I have been down that road before and it wasn’t fun. If I hadn’t tasted it, I would have been sitting at the table with huvason, thebigshow, and MrFreeze. When I tasted the Deathmatch sauce, I had an immediate flashback. I gotta say that Creator’s Deathmatch sauce was the hottest wing sauce I have ever tasted.

A lot of credit is an understatement! Thanks Kristi, forgot to say that I really enjoyed meeting the Three Hot Tamales (or was it 4, or 5?). You guys are awesome. Now that I’m stocked on Defcon for a while, gotta order some more Crybaby and Steaksauce from Nick. All I have is a signed Crybaby on the shelf, and its hard to let it sit!

Actually, night all, I still got some z’s to catch up on from the trip. Got in late last night, went to sleep even later. I’ve been full throttle all day wrestling alligators. The deal with my bank still isn’t straight, part for the car comes in tommorow, yep I had car trouble in Charlotte on the way home. No end in sight to this past wekend yet! :) But it was a hoot! :)

Good night!

Rough weekend dude! Have a good one and hopefully things will pan out for you all around. Good Night!!

Actually it was quite mild! :) I had a blast! Stuff happens. It will work out soon. I actually laughed all the way from Charlotte. No money due to a bank error. Low mileage car that picked one hell of a road trip to have its first breakdown (wasn’t major, but was just … not needed). Thought it was funny as heck!

Hey, as much fun as I had with this much trouble and so little time up there with all you guys, just imagine how much fun the next one will be if everything goes smoothly! :)

Ok, I’m gone now! G’night!!

Is she going to wear a Salsa dress?

No real alligators we harmed are killed during the typing of that statement. ;)

Sorry for the confusion, forgot to include the PC disclaimer to clarify. :D

LOL - My Habby horse is just about dead….. Need to order more - hopefully the Creator has more :D

Thanks DK and Huv. Well, due to the overwhelmingly good response, myself and The Createss have decided to put the Habby Horse into full production. Give it a few weeks, and you can get as much as you want. We’ll probably make it in pint jars, as the half pint jars seem to go too quickly. Figure I’d make people happy first thing in the morning.

Then I better get BRet’s jar that I bought in the mail today! If I finish my Habby tonight - his may not last!

(only kidding BRet - it is shipping today!)

Creator, you have made me very Habby, I mean happy! Pints would be best I think, My first half pint jar is over halfway gone, I started into it in Jersey when we stopped to eat on the way back to the motel. Had it on a BK Big Fish sandwich. The King never had it so good! Delicious! :)

Just tried the Fat Kid Hot Sauce tonight - first thoughts: Good heat but needs to be thickened up a bit. The sauce tends to seperate after a few seconds (on the plate) - but I definately like the flavor direction.

Huvason, just got my stuff fom Bret. Gotta agree with Nick’s comment. The flavor is great! The consistency is weird, really nice and thick but separates and is watery at the same time. Really great sauce though. Had two chicken sandwiches for lunch, and a half bottle of your sauce to go with them. :)

And to Bret, thanks man! I did not expect that from you, awesome man! :) :) :) :) From the bottom of my bog crawlin’, gator wrastlin’, roadkill eatin’, GWC watchin’, rabbit ear adjustin’, catfish grabbin’, frog giggn’, gator tater eatin’ heart, THANK YOU! ;)

Hey DK, glad you liked the sauce. Our top researchers are investigating the phenomena of separation as we speak. If I thicken the sauce too much, then it doesn’t easily pour from the woozy bottle. I will have the “issue” resolved before the next batch is produced.

Hey, not really an issue, just thought I’d let ya know that I could tell what Nick talking about. And all the thanks for Bret go to you as well, great sauce man! This stuff will probably be gone in a coulpe of days. I have the “Hot”, it has just the right amount of bite to it for eating in quantity. This is definately a sauce meant to be poured and not dashed. :)

I appreciate the feedback, and glad you liked it. I’ve been looking into the separation issuie anyway. Hopewfully I’ll get it worked out.

Hmmmm, your top researchers wouldn’t perhaps have little orange heads and three-eyes would they? :)

Oh, by the way, looks like the next “mini” DEFCON Day may be August 12th as opposed to August 19th. There won’t be eating contests and all that, as the place is smaller than The Alley, but it is a good reason to drink and eat free wings. It’ll be kicking off around 9pm, yes, 9 at night.

Aug 12th is good for me. I had a block party on the 19th! This is in Brooklyn, right?

They -will- take care of everything. :)
They may be my shock troops, but I have informed them they may help you in your enterprise as much as possible.

And yeah, Duff’s is in Brooklyn, right by the Williamsburg bridge. Checkout our website, and look under links, you’ll find the Duff’s Brooklyn link. Jimmy Duff, the owner, is a high school buddy of mine. He used to co-own the Bellevue bar on 40th and 9th in Manhatten, a place frequented by MTV broadcasts and the likes of Static X, Rob Zombie, etc. He recently moved his establishment to Brooklyn. He has quite the following. And remember, it starts at 9PM!
