I recieved #48 today - after they delivered it across the street and it sat out in the cold all day! It is broken, both the case and the bottle. Not horrible, but a big chunk of wax is broken off. Any thoughts? I am sad, but it gets worse. After fiddling with the bottle for a few moments, I proceeded to rub my eye, which apparently had some hot sauce residue on it! So now I have a broken bottle and a swollen, burning eye. Merry Christmas.

This cold weather can be pretty brutal to a Blair’s Reserve. When I get a package that was sitting in the “cold” all day, I let it acclimate to room temperature (a couple hours) before I open the box and handle it. I have never really had too much trouble with damage. As for the cases, mine always seem to have at leat 1 hairline crack somewhere on them.
I dont know if that would have helped Adam as it may have gotten damaged in transit.

Any other thoughts on the cold and hot sauce???

Comment by ryan (2615) - 12/24/2005 @ 12:26 pm | [ Quote ]

In regards to temp. and damage, this is a crappy time of year for these things to be shipped. The cold makes the resin brittle and all the knocking around in a delivery truck (speed bumps, pot holes, squirrels, etc…) is likely to cause some resin to break off. The resin can ger cracked when the bottle gets too warm too, and that’s when the sauce starts spewing out. Chris has some good advice. If you have a garage that is connected to your home, let it sit there for a while before bringing it directly into your home to make a smoother trasition in temp. Kepp them away from heaters, fireplaces, and windows, and keep them somewhere mid level in a room so that they’re not up high where the heat rises, and not down where all the cool air pools. Sometimes the resin has air pockets in it which causes a higher risk of damage. Just some observations I’ve made and precautions I’ve taken due to my experiences.

Just got home from out of town and that beautiful whit box with the red lettering is on the counter waiting for me. The waiting is over!!!! My wife takes the honor cutting the seal of the beautiful white box(she is just as excited as I am so it’s cool) and grey peanuts get scattered about the counter. To my dismay, I find a badly cracked box with the sticker torn!!! AHHHHH, Next I see wax bouncing around in the box and the tissue paper ripped. Will this be the worst holiday ever??????? Slowly I unwrap it, slowly, slowly. As the I see most of the wax is in perfect condition and it is just the drips that have broken off, As i turn it oh so slowly I see that beautiful #3 smiling me in the face!!! ……..Folks, It just dont get any better than that.

Mine Holiday is on it’s way back to Blair for repair! UPS Ground + $500.00 insurance = $11.47. Well worth it, I say! I’ve passed it off as just being one of those things that just happens…like…Sh*t happens [:-). I know our man Blair will take care of me, so I’ve no remorse.

It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen, and it does make one wonder what could have happen. The shipping box displayed absolutely no signs of damage, yet the display case along the bottom edge was shattered. Much like what a BB does to a windshield, a center of impact and cracks radiating out from it. No doubt, whatever it was caused the wax on that side to crumble into a bunch of pieces. Plus…While I was repacking the bottle into the case I looked under the label/lid and it was cracked.

Oh well! As Arte Johnson use to say…”Verrry interesssting”! Ok Ok, I’m telling my age. If you’re not old enough to remember, Just look it up [:-)

Blair hasn’t put them up for sale on his site for $1000+ like he has other reserves so who knows…maybe some lucky chiliheads are getting them at the same price as the others…Kinda makes the anticipation of their arrival that much more exciting!

Ok here’s the scoop on the ebay bid, your man said he looked a the package and noticed some wax broke off. So he sent the reserve back to Blair for a touch up. That sounds legitimate. I had saved $5 extra from lunch for the bid Scott. Speaking of ebay, I can’t believe that Reserve Prototype went for over $2000 and the Caldera Prototype went for $1600. Holly Habineros Batman! Any sign of B-99(s) yet??????

Update on B-99’s. Here’s the e-mail I received just a little bit ago:

Hi again Ryan,

So sorry about this…..the B-99s are not quite ready yet!! Blair is waiting on the arrival of the sealing wax from Italy…it will be just a few more days. I apologize for any confusion.

So a few more days of anxiety…oh well, we’ve waited this long, it’s not gonna kill us (well, some of us) :-P

Hi everyone. I’m new to this. Just waiting for my B-99 to be shipped to the UK - hopefully it won’t arrive damaged or it will have to have a long trip back to Blair by the sounds of it. Started collecting at the end of November - not too much tho as I’m a student. Has anyone noticed that the #46 holiday reserve on ebay didnt meet its reserve and then was relisted as #44? Just wondered that was all….

Comment #42:
Comment by MattUK (713) - 1/7/2006 @ 8:55 am | [ Quote ]

BTW i think Blair is awesome. I have managed to collect so far: 2005 Halloween reserve, 6am, 16 million, 3am (eating - it cracked), 2004 Holiday reserve (should be with me any day) and B-99 (hopefully when it arrives). Also got various jersey death and death rain nitro kickin about being eaten - theyre all AWESOME!!

Not bad for only collecting (a little) over a month.

Comment #44:

Comment #45:
Comment by Mad_Reilly (766) - 1/8/2006 @ 8:35 am | [ Quote ]

Not bad for over a month! Shit (oops shoot) when I was a student the only thing I could collect was the lint in my pocket, oce in a while a penny or too would fall out. I’d say by may he should have to whole line. My advice, take it easy! We’ll be around for a while, but good stuff.

Comment #46:
Comment by MattUK (713) - 1/8/2006 @ 9:08 pm | [ Quote ]

I wish I could have the whole line by may! I’ve got 2 cool off with the sauces a bit - i don’t want to but don’t think my bank balance (oops i meant overdraft) is enjoying it! They warm up chilly old Wales anyway. Anyone know when the B-99’s are being shipped???? No doubt i’ll see one on here first and then have to wait in dispair for about a week until mine arrives

Comment #47:
Comment by MattUK (713) - 1/8/2006 @ 9:16 pm | [ Quote ]

The hardest part of collecting in the UK is the shippinf cost- and of course HM Customs and Excise like making a profit from my hot sauces as well - I hate those nasty people- I had to pay an extra Ł34 just for them to release my 6am!!!!

Comment #48:
Comment by Mad_Reilly (766) - 1/8/2006 @ 11:33 pm | [ Quote ]

Matt
To beat that stupid tax you got to have somebody here in America buy it and then ship it as a gift or a sample. I have familly over in Ireland (North by the way, so it’s the same lark) and thats how we do it. Cheeky Feckers, soon they’ll even want to take a taste as well. Email me if you need help.
sligorover@msn.com
Yeh the hot sauce thing can get expensive, I (my wife I mean) try to budget how much I spend on my hot sauce. I’m kind of dead when she gets the credit card bill. Relax, you don’t need every hot sauce by tomorrow. It took me a long time (years) to get my collection - plus you want to have a little cabbage for the next reserve.

Comment #49:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 1/9/2006 @ 4:49 pm | [ Quote ]

OMG! OMG! OMG!…My bank account is now showing a charge from Blair for the B-99 which means that they are shipping! Everybody take a deap breath and don’t freak out when the UPS guy comes.

Comment #57:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 2/13/2006 @ 1:23 pm | [ Quote ]

Matt - Unless you can find an online store that is selling one, your only chance is going to be ebay. Getting a reserve limited to a qty. of 99 is very tough to get a hold of if you miss out on the initial release.

Comment #58:
Comment by MattUK (713) - 2/13/2006 @ 1:28 pm | [ Quote ]

no i got a B-99 so just trying to get the other - i missed out on a few on ebay (quite a few people don’t ship to the UK). Still don’t know the # of my B-99 and I know it’s just sitting at home waiting!!

Comment #59:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 2/13/2006 @ 4:07 pm | [ Quote ]

I guess I should have been more specific. The only place you’re going to get a holiday reserve is on ebay at this point. I try my best to keep a watch on the bigger internet shops because I need an 05 holiday as well. If another one comes up and they won’t ship outside the US, try to make an arrangement with somone on here to have it shipped to them and then in turn ship to you.
