Hot Places to Visit in Albuquerque, NM

As the 2007 Fiery Foods Show fast approaches, legions of chileheads across the nation are anxiously awaiting this annual pilgrimage. While the Sandia Casino is way outside of town & has almost everything you need for a weekend of debauchery, there are a few places that are worthy of the 15 min drive into town. Have a place you’d recommend? Leave a comment and let us know!

The Chile Pepper Emporium
901 Rio Grande Blvd. NW
Albuquerque, NM 87104
(505) 881-9225
www.chilipepperemporium.com
(near a Starbucks)

Nice, clean and spacious hot sauce shop. Closest to the Sandia Casino (I think). They have a wall of heat and often have samples out.

Chile Addict
325 Eubank Blvd. NE
Albuquerque, NM 87123
(505) 237-9070
www.chileaddictstore.com
(across the street from Wal-Mart)

More crowded then the Emporium and less kept up, but still a fun visit. Carries more NM goodies and has a nice line of coffee beans.

Garduno’s
Several Locations
www.gardunosrestaurants.com

Makers of one of the best jarred salsas I’ve ever had, the Garduno’s family restaurants are a great place to find satisfying Mexican food.

The chile pepper emporium is definitely worth the drive. It is the biggest hot shop I’ve ever seen (although I have not been to Peppers). Nice people, too. Make sure you try their house hot sauce. It’s some good stuff!

HEY! Nobody mentioned chains when I volunteered to help out! Now I may not want to leave! ;) :)

So what’s the word on the Go Karts? I know I’ll have to leave for that.

Hey Bret, Bubba said to remind you that she has your handcuff keys. You want me to bring ‘em to NM? Or you want to get them from Bubba next time you see her?

An hour up the road in Santa Fe is some of the best eatin’ you’ll find- the Guadalupe Cafe :-) You can bet I’ll be there for at least one meal: Eggs benedict with green chile holandaise!

We might just head up to Santa Fe to check out:
Tia Sophia’s
210 W. San Francisco
Santa Fe, NM
Tel: (505) 983-9880

Supposed to be the birth place of the breakfast burrito!

Another great local place is the El Tecolote. We’ve been eating at the Guadalupe Cafe since it used to be located, oddly enough, over on Guadalupe st many years ago. It was just a hole in the wall local spot that has gotten a bit of notariety. You ought to check out their cinnamon rolls also :-)

Bottom line, it’s hard to go wrong in Santa Fe.

Anyone want to meet there around 2 pm for lunch on Thursday? That’s right when we’ll be driving through on our way to the show. We’re always looking for a good place to stop on the way in and haven’t found a good one yet.

I think we’d be down for that, gotta check our flight arrival time - anyone that would like a ride, let me know - there will be at least 3 HSB related cars available for transport.

Sounds good- let’s get this party started even before we get to town! Does Tia Sophia’s serve beer? Let us know if the flight time works Nick and we’ll plan on it.

We *might* be in on this- all depends on the weather heading out there & how fast we get done with set up. No promises.

Um….I’m a little late on replying to this, but I’ll give my $.02 anyway.

Garduños is ok…but if you really want good New Mexican food, Sadies is the place to go.
