Are you a collector looking for a certain bottle? Do you have a collectible bottle you’re looking to sell? Have anything else that may be of interest to hot sauce collectors in general? If so, drop the HSB a note here and we’ll post it in what we’re calling the Hot Sauce Collector’s Corner, which may become a monthly, bi-weekly or even weekly post here on the HSB.

Blair’s Beyond Death – 1993
If you have a bottle of Blair’s Beyond Death (circa 1993 – seen here) that your willing to part with, we’ve got a collector that’s looking to add this prized bottle to his collection. Leave a comment and we’ll put you in touch.

Preston & Steve’s Fire in the Hole Hot Sauce
Chris K. sent us a note about this hot sauce made famous on WMMR’s Preston and Steve Morning Show (PA). Collector’s interested in adding a bottle of this to their collection can do so here.

First Blair’s B-99 on eBay
We knew it would happen eventually, just didn’t think it would happen this quick. Someone is auctioning off their rights to Blair’s B-99 reserve. They must be a reader of HSB from the looks of the ad copy. Check out the auction here.

Yeh great idea. With no disrespect to Blair. Does anyone have a Dave’s Insanity PR year 2001? I feel pathetic to even say I collect Dave’s as well, I just need 2001 and I have a complete collection (untill 2006). Not for nothing, I tried to call and email the people at Dave’s and they wouldn’t give me the time of day. I call extremefood (aka deathsauce.com – I remember) and the people couldn’t be nicer. If I didn’t have the others ….. ahhh never mind, I’ll save my money for the next one from Blair. I’m tired I’m just blabbering.

I am missing the 2001 reserve as well, and I can’t find one anywhere. Maybe he skipped a year? Also, the people at Dave’s have always been very customer-friendly to me, even going as far as resigning some of my older reserves that were all rubbed off. He’s no Blair – but I still enjoy a lot of Dave’s Sauces. Even if they are mass produced in Costa Rica.

Comment by Joe L. (60) - 12/18/2005 @ 12:24 pm |

I am 99.99% certain that Dave didn’t make a 2001 Reserve, so anyone who’s only missing that year has a complete collection of the PR’s. I talk to Dave on occasion via email, so I’ll try to remind myself to ask him and find out for sure. Dave’s folks are every bit as friendly as Blair’s on the phone, but that’s from only a smattering of phone calls on my part.

While digging through some inventory I found (3) Frostbite 4 Bottles – Each signed and numbered by CaJohn.

Also from CaJohn: CaJohn’s Hardcore Hot Sauce Collector’s Set

Also found a Blair’s Sweet Death – Signed and Numbered #33 out of only 36!

OK, here we go. I dont want to sell these but I have to. I dont want to put these on ebay. I would rater have someone that will keep these in there collection rather than sell them for profit. You guys are my first choice to sell these sauces. 1st sauce I need to sell is my Blair’s #67 of 73 Limited Mega Death sauce. #2 sauce im selling is my #642 4am sauce. I might be possibly selling more but just these two for now. If any one is interested let me know

“I would rater have someone that will keep these in there collection rather than sell them for profit.”…so are you selling these at what you paid for them? In other words; prices?

Comment #17:
Comment by Scott - 12/21/2005 @ 6:47 am |

I really dont know how to put a price on these. Not gonna sell them for what I paid for them. LOL I really DONT want to sell but have to. Some crap came up and my hot sauces are the only thing I have to sell. the 4am #642 is in almost perfect condition. It has a very small crack at the top. cant even see it really because the sticker that it came with is covering it. Also the crack was in it when I got it over 5 years ago. And of course the Limited Mega Death is in perfect condition. I guess I could part with the 4am for 375 bucks and 575 bucks for the Mega Death. I think that is low for what these sauces are. I just hate having to sell them.

Comment #18:
Comment by Joe L. (60) - 12/21/2005 @ 11:18 am |

I know that I would be interested in the limited edition Mega Death, but I’m sure that there are more lucrative $$$ available thru eBay than what I could give you. You may email me privately if you’d care to talk further. Wow, it’s tough having to sell a 4am Reserve. I know, because it’s one of my prized collectors pieces. I think I’ve seen them sell for $500 and up on eBay.

I know what you mean Scott. The hot sauce is always the first thing to go. If have have tried all other means and have to sell, then go ahead.
I sold a low # 6am (for a low $) early last year and could have kicked myself 2 weeks later. Luckily, the guy I sold it to needed car parts and re listed it with other sauce. I was able to buy back my bottle sell the other sauce and broke even. After that, I think I will be buried with this bottle.
Sounds like you will get ok $ for these. I am not saying dont sell, just make 100% sure before you do.

Hey Mad_Reilly & Adam,
Yes they DID make a 2001 Dave’s. I have several extra bottles around. Email me an offer on them and you can complete your collection. I also have a Beyond Death that’s not for sale. Well, everything is for sale for the right price… I have a couple of Cape Fear Voodoo sauces with the doll and all too.

Scott…I understood that Blair quit numbering them after the 10,000th one. I also assumed the black wasn’t introduced until then. Someone correct me if this is wrong info.

I have a red and black wax 2AM that is numbered. I called Blair’s and asked them about why they started adding the black wax. They said it was due to the red wax being brittle and cracking. Since that was the first layer of wax, that allowed the contents to be able to spew out. So they added the black as the first layer for a stonger base. This was done before Blair stopped numbering them. The non-numbered 3AM’s now have a layer of black wax too, probably for the same reason since the first layer used the be the red wax as well.

Sweeeet, so there arent that many numbered red and black 2am’s. I got my eye on one right now. Think im gonna order it when I get home from work.

So collections are not complete unless you have 3 2am bottles:

red wax – numbered
red/black wax – numbered
red/black wax – not numbered

Ryan,
I would imagine you are correct about the wax on the 3AM’s as the one I just received from an Ebay purchase has a small hairline crack in the red wax. This was stated in the auction so it is not an issue, but this is what happened to my original 3AM. Silly me opened up the original one because of that. I’m glad I did now, it makes a great chili!

I guess the question now is, were there any 3AM’s with red/yellow/and black wax that were numbered?

DK

Speaking of the 2am’s, have you guys seen or have any pics of the original 2am bottles? The first bottles were taller and I think more skinny. I have seen ONE on ebay about 4 years ago. It went for like 1500 bucks. I havent seen one since. Cant even find a pic of one anywhere.

Comment #38:
Comment by thakswet (529) - 2/3/2006 @ 3:51 pm |

I can add that the #1 3AM has all red wax, two little yellow circle stickers on each side saying “keep out of reach of children” and the 2AM sticker on the bottom.

Scott, that was the one that was on e-bay last month and went for $2000. It was actualy a pre am reserve, not even a 2am yet.

DK – I personally hae never seen a 3AM with the black wax that is numbered, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. As I’ve mentioned before, I had another numbered 3AM that cracked badly and I opened (crack started in the red and went all the way through the yellow on the very top). That particular 3AM was in the lower 9,000′s (couldn’t tell ya exact number, I’ve used it so much that I’ve rubbed all the writing off). Based on the number of the bottle I opened and that it did not have the black wax, I would assume that the black wax did not appear until after the numbering stopped. The 2AM originally had only red, but the 3AM , though it’s base was red, had the second layer of yellow which may be why there was no rush for the black. The yellow seems to be a little stronger than the red so that would have kept a good seal on the bottle even if the red cracked…and this concludes this episode of CSI: Hot Sauce
