Are you a collector looking for a certain bottle? Do you have a collectible bottle you’re looking to sell? Have anything else that may be of interest to hot sauce collectors in general? If so, drop the HSB a note here and we’ll post it in the Hot Sauce Collector’s Corner. If you have a bottle to sell or trade, send us a note as well and we’ll see what we can find for you.

Looking for…

Old Tabasco Labels
I’m looking for a WW2 era (1941-1945) label for Tabasco brand, or a good scan that I can use for an Army Cook’s exhibit. Prefer 2 oz size. ~ Dave

Melinda’s Reserves
I would like to complete my collection of Melinda’s XXXMAS Reserve and the XXXXTRA Reserve. I need the following years…

XXXMAS: 1998, 1999, 2001 to the present.
XXXXTRA: 1998 & 2000.

I also have an extra ‘95 1st edition XXXMAS if anyone is interested.
Thanks ~ Randy

Numbered 3 A.M. Reserve
I am looking for a 3 AM. A numbered one, to replace one I opened due to finding that the wax was cracked and thought was ruined. It does make a good chili though, that’s for sure. The bottle I have is #8220, anything near that would put things right, but I ain’t picky. The 2 AM I got at the same time is looking a little out of place since the 3 got moved to the fridge. I have an extra Le Million that I would be willing to part with if anyone is interested. ~ DK

Dave’s 2001 Private Reserve
Looking for a 2001 Dave’s Private Reserve to complete my Dave’s set. ~ Adam

Blair’s Caldera
I am seeking a Blair’s Caldera, with the number not really mattering whether is 49 or 499. I have a limited amt. of cash, but will consider trading my Dave’s Private Reserve for 1995 and/or 1996 for it as part of the deal. ~ Joe

Blair’s Beyond Death - 1993
If you have a bottle of Blair’s Beyond Death (circa 1993 - seen here) that your willing to part with, we’ve got a collector that’s looking to add this prized bottle to his collection. Leave a comment and we’ll put you in touch.

Selling & Available…

Blair’s First Reserve on eBay
Auction description: This is indeed one of the rarest of any of “BLAIR’S ” reserves. This was purchased from BLAIR when he was at a show at the New Scotland Avenue in Albany, New York about 8 years ago. He had told us that they had just finished the batch the week before and there was no name on the reserve. Auction here.

Defcon 0’s - Signed and Numbered
The Creator of the award winning Defcon sauces is furiously working on Defcon 0 - their hottest sauce yet. A limited number of Defcon 0’s are available now (signed and numbered) if you ask him real nice. Website here.

Nick, this collectors corner was a great idea!!! Just telling by the posts it has been quite popular.
Does anyone know who has that prototype caldera?

Comment #6:
Comment by Randy (591) - 12/28/2005 @ 10:52 am | [ Quote ]

I second that eman! Another idea is to post research questions, such as “Who/What is this?”

As an example…..
Collectors 1st Edition “Prototype X” Series 77599. It was introduced at the 1999 Fiery Food Show. The bottle I have is signed and numbered 5 of 16. Unfortunately I not able to make out the signature.

The label bears the following describtion.

“Each year I design one new X-treme sauce to test on Serious Chile-Heads at the National Fiery Foods Show. This product has yet to named, so goes by Prototype X. There are only 17 bottles in existence, one was sent for testing, and the rest are for Red Savina Lovers, here at the 1999 Fiery Foods Show in Albuquerque.

Earlier this year I had a whole bunch of the military bottles. I sold all but one. Problem for Dave is they’re not WWII Era. But hey…Ain’t nut’n wrong with a little fudgin’ once in awhile!

I just have to add to the praises of this blog. Before I found this thing, a lot of you were just names on Ebay and hated the fact that you had the money to get the things that I didn’t. Now I’m cheering you all on…I know, sounds corny, but I had to say it. Good luck guys

Question for anyone that has an answer…I’ve seen a few “Hot Sauce From Hells” with the wax top on the net and the contents in all of them is a greenish brown color. Is this normal? I have the wax top and it too is that color. My father picked it up on a road trip years ago and seem to remember it being red. Any comments/answers? Thanks in advance

Comment #12:
Comment by Nick Lindauer (1017) - 12/29/2005 @ 6:26 am | [ Quote ]

Ryan - It’s because of the age of the sauce, any Hot Sauce from Hell with a Red Wax top should be brown since it’s been quite a few years since they produced it.

Comment #13:
Comment by chris k (1) - 12/29/2005 @ 8:24 am | [ Quote ]

I still have a bottle with the wax top and it is light brown in color.
Anyone know the current $ value of this bottle?

Comment #14:
Comment by Nick Lindauer (1017) - 12/29/2005 @ 8:29 am | [ Quote ]

Chris - Since they aren’t numbered and were fairly mass produced, it’s hard to say what the value is - I’ve seen some for sale for upwards of $100 but I’ve also picked up a few on eBay for less then $10 - just depends on where you look.

Comment #15:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 12/29/2005 @ 11:11 am | [ Quote ]

Chris - If you want to high ball it, Taste the Pain is selling the wax top for $250.

I got my wax colored top bottle in a bulk 350 bottle purchase on ebay. It also is fairly brown in color. I was also lucky to get a Cape Fear Voodoo sauce that was even mentioned. I have a question though. In that same purchase i received a bottle of Blair’s sauce I have never seen befor in any other auctions or websites. The bottle is spuare with a white bottle top. It is signed and has a Blairs square label on top. I emailed a picture of it to extreme foods and they said that though they don’t offer values in the second or thrird party markets, that it was a pr-AM bottle that he made for conventions and that they thought it would be fairly rare. If anybody knows anything about this bottle or would like to see a picture please let me know at dedeckerc@hotmail.com.

Comment #24:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 1/3/2006 @ 7:09 pm | [ Quote ]

I didn’t pay attention…It depressed me too much to know that I was unable to contend in the bidding of that reserve. I blame my wife’s car for that one :-P

Comment #25:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 1/3/2006 @ 7:11 pm | [ Quote ]

winning bid was $2,025.00 guy that won is “thebigshow”. If he follows his pattern, it’ll be back up for auction in a couple days if not sooner, but at a hefty price.

Comment #26:
Comment by eman (1755) - 1/3/2006 @ 10:05 pm | [ Quote ]

I emailed the guy who won and he said that that is his 3rd pre-reserve in his collection that and is Blair’s collector. I had my bid at $2000 max for a week and he outbid me in the final 3 minutes. The caldera ends at 10am tomorow, hopefuly I will be victorious this time.

eman,
Look at auctionsniper. it lets you put a max bid in and you tell it when to bid (i.e. 1 minute before auction closes) Gives you a better shot at a hard to win auction.

Comment #28:
Comment by ryan (2615) - 1/3/2006 @ 11:15 pm | [ Quote ]

Ahhh….the art of ebay sniping. Can’t say I’m not guilty of the same thing, but I have only won 2 auctions and I wait for stuff that nobody takes a big interest in. That way I get it fairly cheap.

I sold “thebigshow” a very similar pre-reserve about a year ago. Same bottle shape, #68 if I remember correctly. It sold for only $900!! I guess I should have held on to it. Trust me, he won’t resell it either.

Comment #31:
Comment by eman (1755) - 1/4/2006 @ 9:04 pm | [ Quote ]

I will try the e-bay thing, thanks for the hint. All was not lost though, I did score the caldera prototype. Sweet!!!
I also would like to know about the “cutting room floor”. I emailed blair about it and haven’t heard anything back.

Hey nick, heard anything?

He is probably trying to get the b-99 out the door.

Last time I made that “road trip” was all the way from Mississippi. Drove for 2 days! The night I arrived I fell over a hand truck and broke two ribs. Not cracked…broke clean through. Stayed in pain all weekend, then drove for 2 days back home. DO I HEAR DELTA AIRLINES….LOL

Eric - It’s worth it and this year it’s at a casino, so it should be a blast. Last I heard from Blair he was scheduling, so he may not be on the list as of yet - he wasn’t there last year, nor Dave

I will be there on Friday the 3rd from 11am till the show closes, then I will be there first thing Saturday the 4th till late afternoon. I’ll be wearing a Cactus Bob’s BQ Corral shirt, (my restaurant). I look forward to roasting the tongue and putting out the fire with a few beers with any and all who will be there. I know Jim Campbell, the creator of Unbearable and Stupid Hot will be there. He supplies me with Red Savina Mash that I use in my specialty BBQ Sauces that I have here at the restaurant.

MSK - Maybe they want $2K for that bottle so they can finance another trip to Daytona.

Everyone - Anyone going to the show should make it a point to check out Gardunos - eat at the restaurant(s) and make sure to take some of the salsa home with you. Good stuff!

Nick…If it came attached with a real live beach babe, I might would consider scrounging for that “POCKET CHANGE” as he called it.

BTW Nick…Thanks for straighting out my link blunder.

I won’t swear by it, but I believe Gardunos is where the CaJohn crew took me last year on Sunday night. I remember us being around Louisiana St. Prices were very reasonable too.
