Hot Sauce Store Review: The Instant Caterer

The Instant Caterer has been around for ages at the South end of the St. Lawrence Market. I used to frequent it regularly to see what collectibles they were selling at regular prices unknowingly. After I had joined the HSB I had visited them to do an initial store review and also would assist customers with hot sauce selections but was promptly thrown out of the store by the lady that holds the regular shift during the day.

At that time the sauces were limited and were brutally over priced. I used to call the place the Instant Rip Off (aside from the few collectibles I was able to get). Then I finally met the owner Stephen. I introduced myself and told him about his products (and how over priced they were) and told him about products he should consider carrying. Lo and behold a few weeks later I visit and the shelves have been expanded, restocked with new items and prices adjusted fairly. This is no longer The Instant Rip Off but quite possibly one of the best hot shops now in the city. Not only do they carry hundreds of brands of hot sauces, BBQ sauces, marinades and rubs. They live true to the name of the Instant Caterer. Freezers are stocked with everything imaginable to get a party started off right. From big shin digs to quaint little gatherings.

Next time you can make it down to the Market drop by The Instant Caterer and say hi to Stephen and let him know you read about his store from the HSB.

Ok, I’ve read this 3 or 4 times now. Is this supposed to be a review of the store? Or of Super Anthony? All I’m getting is that the store sucked, Anthony had a chat with the owner (Stephen somebody) and now thanks to him the store has been saved!
Sorry Anthony, but there’s more in this “review” about you than there is about the store. What about the staff, besides that lady that kicked you out (hehe!)? Sorry, but if you came into my place of business and acted like you worked there I’d kick you out too. So does the place suck or not? On what basis are they “brutally” over priced? You state that you got collectibles at ” regular” prices unknowing to them. So who’s ripping who off?
Sorry, but I thought a store review was supposed to be about the store. No interview with the owner? What’s his full name? No description of displays or points of interest in the store? Just a general description of what the store carries is all I see. I got more info doing a search for the store in google. The pictures of the store are very nice. It looks like a clean friendly place to visit. The store owner looks to be a friendly guy. Is that the store owner? I just hope he can still smile after reading his “review” and not be embarrassed.
Try again Anthony.
Awwww muffin. Looks like someone needs some milk and cookies.
Is that what you need Dougie?!
The store is great as I mentioned. I helped him out a bit and everything is just swell.
Spend more time being productive instead of being vindictive.
[Comment ID #113797 Quote]
Vindictive of what? I’m just stating my opinion. What the hell do I have to be vindictave of? Well, you did just call me Dougie. Damn I’m pissed! 🙄
I’ve read it several times Anthony. It’s not a store review. It’s just a story about Anthony. You want me count the “I’s’ and ‘me’s’ for ya? Sorry bro.
With 3/4 of the “review” being negative, I’m sure Stephen will give you big ‘ol slap on the back and huge bear hug the next time you’re in. Shoot, with friends like you, who needs enemies?
Ok, back to my unproductive life. 🙄
Sorry Andy, I laughed reading your review? DK is right on with his post!!! I see nowhere the vindictive part you refer to? Where did that come from?
The pictures remind me of a bad Wayne’s World flashback…
It looks like a great store and after doing further research it sounds like it also. To bad it was more about you.
I know you’ll come back, call me a retard and how your girlfriend hate’s me. On a good note I’m working on my spelling, I have a long way to go, but with your support I feel confident I will succeed.
Keep your chin up I think your thread might finally break 5 posts. 😉
I counted 7 “I’s”
Thats all the higher I can count so there might be more?
[Comment ID #113799 Quote]
Ya – maybe spend more time trying to find a girlfriend (or boyfriend) than put down what I do.
Maybe you would be less of an asshole (could also be why you don’t have one).
Here come’s the cavalry. Let’s cheer him on!
Soon the rest of the crew will be here. Must be a slow day on taste the fear.
[Comment ID #113803 Quote]
Very intelligent and well informed reply Anthony. Just like like your “review”.
oooohhhhhhhhhhhh
DK called you bro. It’s on like Donkey Kong.
Blane, i guess i shouldnt ask you to count how many miles i am running for my marathon then 🙁
(well i’ll save you the trouble, my short bus calculator says 1,001)
DK, Blane – maybe it was intended to be submitted to the “where’s Waldo” blog and he sent it to the wrong website? LOL
I think the egg just cracked….. lol…. To funny
was it a raw egg, boiled egg, rotten egg? it could be important for conversation purposes.
Hahaha! Knew it would only be a moment before the idiot brigade showed up.
Kudos on the marathon general! Much better than a generator for a local fire dept. At least you are doing something useful and the training will keep DK from hitting on you. (or maybe attract him more to you).
i thank you for your kudos on my marathon and everything about it. i am sorry but i dont agree with the generator comment. my opinion is that it was uncalled for.
[Comment ID #113809 Quote]
WOW, I’m glad your showing your true colors.
I see this thread getting shut down real soon… Thats to bad that people won’t get to see what you truley are.
I guess I didn’t know it was such and insult what I did with the money that was donated to my Family.
Have a good day Anthony.
I liked the post. I always like pictures of hot sauce shops.
besides that…simmer down now.
[Comment ID #113812 Quote]
i like hot sauce shop pictures just as much as the next guy but maybe what DK and Blane were trying to say is maybe the thread should’ve been just pics of the shop and description like “when in toronto, check out this newly remodeled hot sauce shop. fully equipped with good stuff at good prices”
just a thought.
[Comment ID #113812 Quote]
I agree, nice pics. oops, I already said that. 😳
[Comment ID #113814 Quote]
Well, kinda general. Except I quit reading picture books when I was in grammer school. Pictures are cool, but informative detailed information to go along with them is always a plus.
[Comment ID #113823 Quote]
how do you explain your collection of “adult” picture books?
It must be nap time?
[Comment ID #113825 Quote]
Look, just because you’re hiding them from mommy doesn’t make ’em mine DENNIS! I’ll box ’em up and send ’em to her overnight if you’re gonna pin that smut on me! I was just tryin’ to help a bro out! 😉
watch out DK, your name calling has instantaneously crossed you off the christmas list.
Can’t we all just get along? As funny as I personally think some of the comments and stabs at each other are, I have been telling a lot of people about this blog. Let’s not make it a completely negative experience. I don’t want to look like an ass, I want people to come here again, I would have liked better photos so I could identify some of those bottles of sauce, also I would have liked to know more about the shop, when it opened for biz, maybe some background on the owner, I don’t know…
i hear you loud and clear.
just my opinion.
[Comment ID #113810 Quote]
Nothing small about that generator general. I agree with you 100%.
Anthony, there’s a lot of people in the chilehead world that are doing what they can to help who they can. They don’t ask for recognition, or anything in return, they just want to help the best way they can. From the guy that bids on an auction just to bump it a little knowing they are not going to win, the people that donate items for auctions and ask to not be named, to Jim Campbell and the great things he’s done and of course Troy and his endeavor. As different as they all are, they all have one thing in common.
Generosity.
Blane never asked for that money. It was raised to help him out in his time of need. Turns out he didn’t need it. So he passed it on to someone that did.
You can call me an a$$hole until you’re blue in the face, but it will never bother me as much as what you said about Blane’s generator. There was as much generosity behind what he did as there was of ALL of the other charitable deeds on the HSB and elsewhere combined.
I personally think you owe a lot of people an apology for that remark Anthony. A lot of people.
🙁
– DK
Southern Fried A$$hole
Boo Hoo! Cry me a river dougie.
I owe no one an apology. Especially after the way you and your “friends” treat other people. At least you put up an honest auction.
[Comment ID #113840 Quote]In my comment I was trying to make a point and add a little humor. Not sure if ya noticed all the I’s. I am a new guy here, but for months before I posted any comments I just would check in and read what was being said. I know that everyone who posts on here loves hot food. I also know that you all are some of the most generous people I have ever encountered. From time to time I think there will be reviews that spark criticism. If you can’t take the criticism …well there are any number of options for you. Charitable donations, gestures of good will or community contributions should NEVER be a target of criticism. If someone is giving, applaud that. Keep the cheap shots away. When I read this blog it makes me laugh and feel like I need to tell other people about this. Obviously there is some underlying annymosity (I’m sure I spelled that wrong). I don’t know and don’t care. If you do a review take your lumps! Good or bad.
[Comment ID #113842 Quote]
Anthony, I hope that your not suggesting that AJ’s auction was not honest? Or what was done with the money? You have stooped to a new low!!!!!
Words can not express my feelings I have right now…
No need to respond, you’ve did enough damage.
[Comment ID #113843 Quote]
Very nicely said Sam. Sorry if I treated you badly by not responding to your comment.
[Comment ID #113846 Quote]
Ya – you took AJ for a run on that one. Played us all for fools with your boo hoo story. (The typo on the plaque was a real kick in the nuts too eh).
Keep going Blane. I will expose you for the fraud you are.
No matter what I say will stoop to your level of low.
[Comment ID #113849 Quote]
Took AJ for a run? Man you just don’t know when to stop do you Anthony. Just keep slapping man. Every word out of your mouth is just another slap in the face to a lot of good people here.
For your info, AJ started that auction on his own accord. It was already going when Blane stated that he didn’t need the money. You want to know what fraud is? Fraud would have been if Blane would have kept his mouth shut, accepted the money and and went out to buy some Blair’s goodies. Nobody would have known the difference. Seems to me he did the right thing. I’m sure a lot of people have benefited from that generator, plaque and all.
[Comment ID #113849 Quote]
Alright mother fuckerr, the generator was in the newspaper, anyone who wants to call it’s the North Loup Volunteer Fire Department, they know me and my family.
I don’t know what you mean by the error on the plaque.
I didn’t ask for the charity. so I gave it away.
One day I will finish this you little puke……
GAWD!, IT’S JUNIOR HIGH ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously guys hack it out on the phone. I finally found my happy place and you guys are pissing in my chili.
Sam, please stay out of this… This goes way back between me and Anthony.
Sorry for my language.
Whoa…..
I had to re-read twice. If I recall correctly, ( and I do, I checked tax records ) I sent a company check to Mr. Anthony _______ for a stair climb up the Toronto Tower something or other charity to benifit the World Wildlife Fund.
I am just speechless to read that I was scammed by ANY blogger or member of this community.
Every auction I have ever ran was started for a good cause, and I never asked where the $$$ goes. I take the word and reputation of the recipient to heart. I am honored to have assisted in putting a generator in a small town community, and I know I speak for everybody that donated to that, ” The Blane Set “, feels the same way.
PPP has sent over $1k last year alone to individual charitys, including the money this blog raised for ME when I was in rehab in March, that went to the honorable gentleman Jim Campbell and his great cause.
Every blogger here can hold their collective heads high and proud for what we accomplish as a community for those less fortunate.
Anthony, I am quite taken back by this, actually I am speechless at being drug into this in such a nonrespectful way.
WOW, Im stunned.
[Comment ID #113849 Quote]
I’m waiting Anthony!!! Expose me for a fraud, Anyone that donated to the auction that AJ put up or won and have questions about it, PM or email me and I’ll give you The Volunteer Chief’s information if your unable to find it on your own. I don’t run and hide like most people on this site, you called me out big boy!!!!
So say some more lies.
Wow. Anthony, there have been times in the past where I have read and understood both sides of the coin when it came to certain situations on this blog. This isn’t one of them.
Every act of generosity that comes from anyone on this blog is commendable. I am embarrased by your comments and think your standing alone on this one, rightfully so.
Cool, but remember you two aren’t the only ones on the blog. I’m not taking sides at all. I stated before I have been sending a lot of people here to check out THIS killer site and all of the awesome sauces, reviews, and charities associated with it. Would it be cool if you guys just took it to the forum, or met up for some serious physical ass kicking? I have told my family, friends, and tons of people I’ve only just met to check it out. I’m not trying to be a dick. PLEASE!?!
Correction:
THIS year so far…. and rehab was in Februrary.
AJ, to you I say thanks and sorry that something you did that was heart felt is dragged across the mud.
Anthony has a agenda with me and I’m sorry to my friends that are getting made to respond.
This is the exact reason why all my donations are done in private.
Sam, I understand. The HSB has a lot of great people and some wonderful things happen here. Maybe I speak my mind to often, but when someone post a lie to degrade or mislead individuals I will not stand by and take it.
[Comment ID #113861 Quote]
AJ did something great to “help” you out! AJ has done a lot of great things for a lot of great causes. Including the WWF he so generously supported.
This has nothing to do with charity right now. You are a bully that needs to put in his place.
You are a self admitted asshole and jerk. A wimp too we can add to that list. At least DK can take a Defcon deathmatch challenge. Maybe you are the king of the Bell Pepper after all.
Keep going Blane. I will look you straight in your man-tits and tell you off.
PM me or contact me off line here and we can continue this.
[Comment ID #113861 Quote]
WOW – Anthony you are way out of line. And i’m not talking about BLANE (good luck trying to prove he’s a fraud BTW- one of the nicest guys I know, and someone i;m proud to call a friend) – but that’s not the point.
A lot of good has come out of what many fine people have done (and are doing and will do) here. And you do owe an apology – to the entire HSB and chilihead community.
Just like I thought, nothing but a lie. Your a sad little piece of shhhit.
Your pale little spike hair 88 posting a$$ could never put me in my place.
Funny about the Defcon match, call it as you see it. I backed out, but there’s more behind the story than you will ever know. Yeah I got man tits, tell me something I don’t know.
At least I admit I’m a A$$hole sometimes unlike you, hide behind his girlfriend then the thread is pulled, you are the laughin stock of the HSB. You get zero post people make fun of you, bottles have been made and posted on the HSB about you.
Tell me off, I’ve heard it all and I’m still here, right or wrong at least I don’t run everytime someone throws crapp at me.
Call you? I’ll be seeing you.
Awww Princess!
You are getting pretty soft in retorts now.
Let me know when you are in town. I will show you some real bacon.
Be back on Tuesday, Family time.
Thanks Kristi, DK,AJ and Huv 😉
Anthony,
The greatest thing you have did was this thread and show everyone what a piece of garbage you are and there’s nothing you can do to change it.
I don’t see anyone slamming me.
Thank you 😉 you made my day (Really)
I see you read the TTF often, good for you.

Here is looking down at you!
I have only one thing to say. Were’s there Firetruck
[Comment ID #113880 Quote]
Bret, call me if ya get a chance about the firetruck. I left you a voice mail.
I cannot believe the new low. Anthony, I have never once stepped in with any disagreements that you have had with any other blogger. Unfortunately this time, I have to say something. Whatever is going on between you and certain HSBers is one thing but to call one of us a fraud on a CHARITABLE donation, that is uncalled for. Brant never asked for that money, as a community we all pulled together to help one of our own. Being completely honest, and I am sure humbled-I know I would be, Brant told us that he truly did not need them but that he would in turn take those funds to help those more in need then himself. That generator is not a one time donation, that generator will be used over and over in years to come, helping many of families in that time. That is helping your fellow man. That is true generosity.
I am in shock that you would go to that level. I am offended. I am also embarrassed by your words about the generosity of the HSBers.
I am sorry to say that I think you will be standing alone on this one Anthony.
Anthony Did you not support something in your neck of the woods. Some body sons our something like that. Brings up todate

Bret,
Please leave that auction out of this cluster f*ck. I have nothing at all to say about what’s going on between the two antagonists here. But, I do need to clarify what you’re referring to.
The auction you are referring (I believe) to was the “Son Of Sam Auction” to raise money for the Canadian Arthritis Foundation.
Jamil Shivji (Sam from Hatari’s son) walked Machu Pichu in Peru.
I started that auction, many contributors from HSB, Taste The Fear and The Hot Pepper including BLANE, Danny Cash, UBK, FKS, Chilehead Ed, Arizona Jack, Hatari, Jim Campbell, Cajohn (if I missed anyone I apologize, I’m burnt out from the road).
The winner of the auction was Blundaar who frequents these boards. He’s a happy camper with what he won during that auction.
I started that auction and asked for contributions to it, and I alone.
It ended with $500 from the auction with a $250 kicker from myself and Lorien. So in total $750 raised for the The Arthritis Society of Canada.
End of transmission………………
Reviewer needs to lose posting privileges pronto. The original ‘review’ didn’t even indicate the city the shop was located in. And then all this garbage.
There is no excuse for this kind of hateful mindless garbage on HSB.
Please take this crap over to the ‘secret’ blog.

AMEN
I had to go back to the start (which I thought I read earlier) and went over it again. My, My, My I cannot believe a person who discribes something so poorly, would not be able to accept some freindly advise which was done in the right frame of mind. I took a lot worst talking to by my colleague prof. This got so blown out of and from the issue that it sounded like a bunch of boys in the backyard seeing who could say the more hurtful things. It became a word war of bad words and all of you who kept feeding the fire should have known better. I know by why of EMails the ones who fingers were pointed at,are a lot better. It became quite clear that the auther was not going to accept anything against the way he does things. Since he came right out throwing stones, in a hurting method. So much as my two cents is not worth a lot but it is the great thing that the BLOG does. (BRINGS OUT THE BEST AND WORST OF PEOPLE)
DK/Blaine/JJ/THT/UncleBig(missed someone) and the rest that I think you are GREAT FOLKS. (count to ten)
I forgot DK, I really agree with you about these people who bid and only do so to help out a friend to boost price. Or not bid past the mid way point becauce there is no desire to buy the item.
[Comment ID #113903 Quote]
Sorry Henry, I told you I missed someone. Blown Away was your contribution
Defcon reserve as well included.
Sorry to go off topic, but I didn’t want our SOS Auction dragged into this.
Carry on……
Never mind my post above, it’s incorrect.
Forget I said anything.
I’m going for a nap.
You got to give Anthony an A+ for the ability to side track all of you off topic. He was probably needing to vent some anger, after he got kicked out of the hot shop. And DK I had to smile when he got under your skin,
you showed that Rebel upbring for sure (keep it up) I say that in a good way, since I know I have spoken out a number of times(my German upbringing)
OK I shut up now, see you on another day. GOODNIGHT
[Comment ID #113904 Quote]
Henry, I did forget to mention also the ones that WIN the auctions! LOL!
Eveyone’s contribution is just as important as the next person. That was my point. There are simple things that are done, and there are noble and great feats that are done, but the important thing is that they are done.
Thanks HenryK. for everything.
DK…you got email and snail mail
Man cant we all just get along? All I know is I love hot sauce and hate bickering. I think we should have a time out for ghram crackers and milk and the come back for a group hug. Lets just talk about how much we love hot sauce and not about how much our otha brotha’s from anotha mutha sucks!
[Comment ID #113937 Quote]
Sorry, but milk and cookies won’t fix what was said by one person here. There were a lot of people that were offended and hurt. This needs to be addressed. It was wrong, it was uncalled for.
Everyone knows what needs to happen here.

Agreed Henry – After watching the Yanks loose and then reading this, talk about a bad case of the Mondays. Everyone that reads and participates here are adults and they can choose to act like that or not – I think this is a case of people clearly not liking each other and once the mud slinging starts everyone gets involved, whether they like it or not.
I will say that with all that the HSB chileheads do for each other (and for even non-chileheads) with all the auctions and behind the scenes donations, I would hate for anyone to have bad blood or animosity over things that are meant to be nothing but good deeds. No one should let comments by a few folks take that away from us.
For some reason I thought this was a hot sauce blog not Jerry Springer.
[Comment ID #113956 Quote]
Yep. me too. 🙁
Which is exactly why I was disappointed that a Hot Shop review didn’t contain much info about the shop itself. Which was the point of my very first post.
Wow, that took awhile to read. And I am sorry to have read it at all. It is quite unsettling to have such unruly, uncivilized, uncouth, upsetting and unwanted comments on this open forum. I think of this Blog as a connection to my chilehead brothers and sisters. A place to share hot sauce news, plan for Zest Fest and Fiery Food Shows, read interesting reviews and to stay connected to the chile world we all love. And we get stuck reading shit like this!!! I don’t care who started this crap or whose right or whose wrong, leave it the hell outta here!!!!
[Comment ID #113977 Quote]
I am with you brother Cheffy! Peace love and hot sauce for all!!
[Comment ID #113842 Quote]
Hey Anthony(AKA My girlfriend has to defend me) What do you keep bringing my name into this? As you well know you dont want me to start on your sorry little ass!!
So, Anthony, you still got nothing to say?
How about this. I want to say I’m sorry for pissing in your corn flakes to start with. Maybe the “Super Anthony” thing was offensive, I don’t know. Here’s where I was coming from. This awful “review” was sitting at the top of the page all day and there were no replies. I figured that people just didn’t know what to make of it just like me, so I made my comment. And I made it in a way that would hopefully stir some discussion. I never intended for you to go off the deep end. So I apologize for that. Tell you what, next time you see a “review” by me anywhere, berate the hell out of it. Doesn’t bother me. I can’t write for shit anyway.
I’m sorry. Truly I am Anthony. I’m sorry I gave an honest opinion. It won’t happen again. I’ll just kiss your ass next time with a “Great review Anthony!” and just go about my business.
Whether you apologize or not for what you said, I truly hope that you didn’t mean it. Forget about me, forget about Blane. Think about what you said. If you think you owe an apology, do so. If not, then we know where you stand. But I think that there’s a lot of people here ready to forgive you, you just gotta ask ’em to.
And if you want to call me a name, use “Willy” instead of Dougie. It sounds a hell of a lot funnier and you won’t have to worry about pissing off thetruth! 😉 😆

For anyone interested in the actual review, The Instant Caterer and St. Lawrence Market is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Ya – it was hyperlinked in the first sentence. You can find the exact address and contact information in there.
“King of the Bell Pepper?” Anthony, you are a hilarious sort of pathetic. Hot sauce is is tasty and worthy of enthusiasm, but you seem to have an overly personal connection to it. Consider your egregious slander of Blane, and why, because he didn’t like your review? You pretended to work at this store, and now you’re (bizarrely) taking credit for the store’s revival so you can be Anthony, “King of Hot Pepper,” right? He called your ego-stroking excuse for a review, and it pissed you off enough to say mostly anything about the man. You seem completely and obliviously narcissistic.
On the other hand, you may have just had the fire shits.
