Over the past year, the HSB has paved the way in chilehead charitable giving and generated over $10,000 for various charities and causes. After some discussion and brainstorming, we’ve decided to run a series of charitable auctions and give the HSB readers the chance to determine what charity is benefited with each auction.
These auctions will contain a variety of bottles/collectibles and if you would like to contribute, please email me. The deadline for donations for this first auction will February 9th - any donations received after that date will be added to the next auction. The HSB is throwing in a signed set of Bob Weir’s Snake Oil Hot Sauce and Stir Fry Sauce which is no longer being made.
The donation will go to any charity connected with Mission Fish & eBay. This will ensure that 100% of the donation will go to the charity selected by the HSB as the auction will be set up to include the Mission Fish donation. So please take a list of the available charities here and leave your suggestion as a comment.

Great job Nick…If you ask me i think a auction for someone that has suffered in the Katrina aftermath would be a great idea.Jersey Boyz would love to help out since the government seems to have forgotten what really matters…
Great idea and great logo!!!

I think there are a lot of good causes on Mission Fish. If I had to pick just one right now, it would be education. So many people put education on the low end of the priority list. If we don’t help our children become educated adults we are in for a very sad future. Not that I don’t believe health issues are not important but without education we will have sub par doctors, nurses, and scientist to help find cures for these terrible diseases. Of course this is just my opinion, and we know what they are like.

Being in the field myself and interacting with the community on a regular basis I give my endorsement for this type of charity also. Education is vital today and it is worth donating too because there are so many children out there with parents that just don’t care and it really is causing society many problems.
Great Idea HSB!!
I didn’t see Jim’s chari ty in there? Did I miss it?

The American Cancer Society always gets my vote for charitable donations.
I agree Nick, I think the American cancer society needs help too. Myself and others I know have been affected by that nasty “c” word and I am all for conquering it for good! I just feel that sometimes we need to start with our society first. I know that I give to the ACS all the time, but sometimes I feel that some very important charities get overlooked. Again just my opinion.

It is not a recognized charity by Mission Fish. Not really sure what it would take to have it be recognized.

Well even though it’s not recognized by mission fish… I know the chilihead community is a large part of his charity and would hate to see that go by the way side. My vote is for Step up for charity…. A good man doing good things can’t go wrong there!!!!!!
I like the Step up and ACS also….there is also another one i am quite fond of also, the ENACFAHBS origanization. They are awesome!!!!

did y’all see what the 1 year ago was….sweet!
I do appreciate all the kind comments! Yup- I’m partial to the Step Up also
Had a brief chat with an accountant to chat a bit about becoming a ‘real’ charity- ie a 501.3(c) Yikes!! It’s a bit of a daunting task :-/ This thing is starting to take on a bit of a life of it’s own
I need someone to try and talk some sense in to me also- giving a thought to either breaking the record or trying for another one. Saw a blurb about one being set on a stationary bike- 85 hours straight. Sounds like more fun than another 24 on the stairs ![]()

That 1/1 is very rare, a special one indeed ![]()
There has to be a way Step up can be recognized, I think supporting Jim and his Charity work is #1 on my list!

Agreed Ed!
Working fine now…

I agree as well - but we need to get his charity recognized by Mission Fish. Or collect donations without Mission Fish, but that doesn’t garuntee the buyer that the funding is being properly distributed
I’ll put getting ‘official’ up a little higher on the priority list. I am aware that there would be concerns to the general public that I’m not truly a legit charity.
I was getting the error messages as well last night. That’s why it was ‘one and done’. Figured it’d get fixed eventually ![]()

I like the idea of you attempting different records Jim. Probably keeps it fresh for you also.

I agree number uno. Ok, might be a little bias for a higher ranking fellow firefighting brother.
Thanks Dawg! Thanks for the patches also- cool idea
Just got a note from my niece about what all was involved with setting up a 501.3(c). Sheeeesh!! Shouldn’t have spoken without a little research first
What a process!!
Easy for *you* to suggest a different thing to try each time!
Why don’tcha join me for a few hours & suggest that again? ![]()

I would love to join you but if I joined you I would loose to much weight and then have to change my name to Skinny Dawg. Have to change all my advertising sounds way to expensive (actually probably could join you down 10 lbs. since Jan. 1st contest at work).
The patches work out good for shirts instead of embroidery. A few of the embroidery companies I used couldn’t get the detail the patch could get plus cheaper. Did I mention better and CHEAPER.
