HSB Readers: Nominate the Sauce of the Month - August
Posted on 07.09.07 by Nick Lindauer @ 5:42 am | Comments: |
« « Previous | Reviewer Round Up » »

As some of you know, Sweat ‘N Spice Hot Sauces features a Hot Sauce of the Month Club. Following the Christmas season, the number of club members has nearly grown by 5x! In the past, the Sweat ‘N Spice staff has picked 1 sauce to feature each month and we’ve ordered just a few extra cases. Now, with the huge increase in members we have to order 15-20 cases of the sauce of the month.

Realizing that an order of this size is hard for some small manufacturers to supply but also realizing that an order of this size can really help spread the word about a lesser known sauce - we’ve decided to leave the sauce of the month nominations up to the HSB readers from now on. Early each month we will start the nominations for the following month.

Guidelines:
- The sauce must not have already been a Hot Sauce of the Month featured sauce (within 12 months)
- We try to emphasize flavor over fire
- The chosen manufacturer must be able to supply 10 or more cases
- Does not have to be a sauce already carried on SNS (we’ll add it to our product line)
- The chosen sauce does not have to be a “hot sauce” but must be able to be used in hot sauce like applications
- The retail price of the bottle cannot be more then $10

Previous Hot Sauces of the Month
(in alphabetical order)
- Big Dawg Habanero Lime Hot Sauce
- Cackalacky Spice Sauce
- Cry Baby Hot Sauce
- Fatalii Fire Hot Sauce
- Frostbite Hot Sauce
- Green Bandit Basil Serrano Hot Sauce
- Harry’s Habanero Hot Sauce - Winner: May
- Jackson’s Death in the Desert Habanero Hot Sauce - Winner: April
- Kiss of Fire Hot Sauce
- Krakatoa Hot Sauce
- Loco Luna Lava EXTREME Hot Sauce
- Make Me Moan Mango Hot Sauce
- Mild to Wild Fiery Hot Habanero Sauce - Winner: June
- Tabanero Hot Sauce
- Talon Hot Sauce
- Toxic Tonic Hot Sauce
- Uncle Brutha’s No. 9 - Winner: July
- Well, Smack My Ass and Call Me Santa

How to Nominate:
Simply leave a comment with the sauce you’ve chosen to nominate for the Sauce of the Month and explain why. Only 2 nominations per person and you can nominate a sauce that’s already been nominated by another reader. Manufacturers, you can nominate yourself as well.

The sauce of the month will be chosen 1 week after nominations begin and those readers that have nominated the chosen sauce will get 1 free case (unless you’re the manufacturer of course). And each Hot Sauce of the Month will be discounted for all HSB readers for that month.

So what sauce would you like to nominate?

I gotta nominate a sauce made by a fellow Canuck. Ebesse Zozo - Hot. Edmond is a real cool guy, and he makes a real unique sauce. It’s all natural, rich, earthy with hints of curry and it is HOT!

i’d like to put the name “scoville units orange habanero” into the hat and/or ring. lots of heat + tons of flavor = chunky “heatness” (our marketing team made this word up, kinda like steven colbert makes up words) at its finest. we are now sold in three states and 2 countries plus ebaying all over the usa.

Zane and Zack’s World famous Honey Chipotle Hot Sauce. You’ve got to try this. I got a jar at a farmers market in Seattle and couldn’t believe how good it was. Whether as a chicken marinade or a combined with a cracker and cream cheese, It’s sweet at the start with a fine kick at the end. Try it!

(a) not a Zack & Zane’s World Famous Honey Chipotle Hot Sauce employee [grin]

(b) fabulous stuff - I’ve used it mixed with yogurt & cream cheese for a crudite dip; mixed with cream cheese alone and piped onto cucumber slices and celery; mixed with mayo as THE BEST artichoke dip EVER; and more.

Across July 4 celebrations, BBQs, potlucks, weekends with the gal pals on Lake Sutherland - it has been the center of the winning dish every time. I LOVE this stuff.

Zack and Zane’s Honey Chipotle Hot Sauce is “ONO” as we say in Hawaii. It means it tastes great! I have tasted many sauces and many here in Hawaii, but Zack & Zane’s has the right amount of heat as well as sweet! I have used it in many recipes and it pretty much compliments any meat and great on grilled veggies. Two thumbs up! ALOHA!

Definitely one of the best out there. Sweet and spicey combos on its signature sauces will actually send u into another world of aroma and taste. And with a varitey to choose from u just can’t go wrong. If u don’t believe me just try some. This pick was an easy one, no contest. Don’t hate on the sauce.

There is a restaurant in downtown Milwaukee close to Usingers and the Spice House called the African Hut. A truly wonderful restaurant with a flair for the spicy hot African food. We visit every Christmas time and some times in the summer when we visit from MA. The owner are more than happy to kick up any of the dishes with his home made and hand made sauce using chiles he brings in from Africa. I would like to noninate the Fatalli fire (CaJohn’s) as the closest commercially available bottled sauce to the African Hut’s own hot sauce. The other sauce I would like to nominate that is like the African Hut’s sauce and comes in a close second to Fatali Fire is West African Voodoo Juice (Captain Thoms).

I get this and most of my sauces at a local liquor store in Westboro, MA Julio’s liquors. They have a Burn Center department that does all things hot and spicy. The other sauces in my collection are from hot sauce specialty shops i visit during my travels. as well as some online purchases such as my limited edition collectibles. The cool thing about this voodoo sauce is that it comes with its own voodoo doll complete with pins. Then you don’t really need to waste any by pouring on pictures. Just use the doll.

Kicking it up a day at a time….

Thanks Sam for opening up. I totally respect all the people trying to start up and make a successful out of their spicy condiments & whatnots. Can u enlighten me a little about your ingredients, in particular the grams of sugar and carb contents. I am a relative newbie here and been experimenting with the recommendations from the HSBlog and been more than happy so far.

I hope u make it to JJ’s Weekend of Fire, so maybe you can sell it to the people you want to target it to. I hope to make the trip and explore new products. I have spent about $300 in hot sauce the last few months. I think I am sick in the head for it.
Anyway, Good luck to and your family business.

Ingredients: jalapeno peppers, honey, water, vinegar, garlic, salt, spices, 100% natural, no preservatives, no additives, 1tsp (5g) serving contains1 g sugars, 2g carbohydrates. We won’t make it to JJ’s but we will be at ZestFest where Zane and Zack my two oldest sons are looking forward to meeting most of the people I probably pissed off. Notice the number one ingredient is jalapenos not chipotle? That’s cause I smoke the peppers myself over mesquite. Hey I gotta go the boys and I are out the door, fishing all weekend. Once again sorry all

While in Aruba, about 1993, I think I found this special hot, very hot sauce that the natives were crazy about, called Matooks,(sp) I fell in love with it that night and have been enjoying it ever since. Goes well most all meats, but, I like it best on pork, chicken and ribs. I’ll try it on anything at least once, but once you’ve had it you’ll see why I give it such a high 5, it’s great sauce.
