HSB Readers: Nominate the Sauce of the Month - May
Posted on 04.03.07 by Nick Lindauer @ 6:50 am | Comments: |
« « Previous | Caption This #8 - Final Five » »

As some of you know, Sweat ‘N Spice Hot Sauces features a Hot Sauce of the Month Club. Following the Christmas season, the number of club members has nearly grown by 5x! In the past, the Sweat ‘N Spice staff has picked 1 sauce to feature each month and we’ve ordered just a few extra cases. Now, with the huge increase in members we have to order 15-20 cases of the sauce of the month.

Realizing that an order of this size is hard for some small manufacturers to supply but also realizing that an order of this size can really help spread the word about a lesser known sauce - we’ve decided to leave the sauce of the month nominations up to the HSB readers from now on. Early each month we will start the nominations for the following month.

Guidelines:
- The sauce must not have already been a Hot Sauce of the Month featured sauce (within 12 months)
- We try to emphasize flavor over fire
- The chosen manufacturer must be able to supply 15 or more cases
- Does not have to be a sauce already carried on SNS (we’ll add it to our product line)
- The chosen sauce does not have to be a “hot sauce” but must be able to be used in hot sauce like applications
- The retail price of the bottle cannot be more then $10

Previous Hot Sauces of the Month
(in alphabetical order)
- Big Dawg Habanero Lime Hot Sauce
- Cackalacky Spice Sauce
- Cry Baby Hot Sauce
- Fatalii Fire Hot Sauce
- Frostbite Hot Sauce
- Green Bandit Basil Serrano Hot Sauce
- Jackson’s Death in the Desert Habanero Hot Sauce - Winner: April
- Kiss of Fire Hot Sauce
- Krakatoa Hot Sauce
- Loco Luna Lava EXTREME Hot Sauce
- Make Me Moan Mango Hot Sauce
- Tabanero Hot Sauce
- Talon Hot Sauce
- Toxic Tonic Hot Sauce
- Well, Smack My Ass and Call Me Santa

How to Nominate:
Simply leave a comment with the sauce you’ve chosen to nominate for the Sauce of the Month and explain why. Only 2 nominations per person and you can nominate a sauce that’s already been nominated by another reader. Manufacturers, you can nominate yourself as well.

The sauce of the month will be chosen 1 week after nominations begin and those readers that have nominated the chosen sauce will get 1 free case (unless you’re the manufacturer of course). And each Hot Sauce of the Month will be discounted for all HSB readers for that month.

So what sauce would you like to nominate?

Candy’s Private Reserve Kickin’ Hot Apple Suprise from Big Dawg Salsa.
You want flavor? This HAS GOT FLAVOR! I got my first bottle and after trying it I Immediately ordered 6 more. I am now out AGAIN!
Even if it doesn’t win-TRY IT, YOU”LL LIKE IT!!

My second choice for flavor over fire would be Blair’s Q Heat Habanero Mango. My girlfriend tried this while on a road trip and instantly fell in love. I have to say it is very good-excellent balance of heat and flavor.
At my house we lean towards the flavor over fire theory so I plan on being some stiff competition!!!

CaJohn’s “10″

Reason: Would it being one of the hottest non extract sauces WITH GREAT FLAVOR that I’ve ever had count? Really. When I first tasted this in NM it was purely for the heat factor, but the one thing that hit me well before the heat was how good this sauce tasted. Really great sauce that I’m using almost on a daily basis since returning from NM.

Second choice:

Loco Luna Extreme

Very tasty sauce with great heat. Never had Brian’s sauce until returning from NM. I’ve been eating it on everything since. Very tasty sauce that goes well with a lot of different foods.

Danny Cash’s Bottled Up Anger. The one that started it all for us. Good heat, incredible flavor.

Yes, I’m going to keep voting for myself until we get a month…

Does the bottle have to be in a woozy or can it just be made by a hot sauce manufacturer? If so, then the Habanero garlic mustard mmmmmm

I agree with Lee I think the Bottled Up Anger is an EXCELLENT choice! I love it and I know everyone else would too. Come on Nick wake up and taste the Anger :D

scotty b’s just damn good habanero hot sauce. oh the flavor is right there in your face then the 8.7/10 heat hits you shortly afterwards and lingers for a comfortable 5-6 minutes.

second choice - danny cash’s naga sabi. got a bottle of that the other day and its half finished. the complex flavors and heat level are darn tooting good. (the truth - i hope those words werent too abrasive for you)

I would like to see something from Cape Fear, BOTH of their sauces are top notch quality products with great taste. Either Red Savina, or Chipotle, both winners in my book.

It’s coming guys. We’re getting more Naga right now and doing a limited run and a bunch of them will be going to Nick in the near future. No numbers or sigs, like you say Aaron, it’s just a limited run because Naga’s a pain to get still. We are close to having a steady supply though. I don’t think Nick could do a very big discount on them for sauce of the month -they are pricey.
Thanks for the plug on the BUA, too, Aaron!

It’s tough to nominate a sauce, because you always leave someone out with a great sauce that deserves it so much.

Heres another, Jims Hab, and FKS, both again very deserving sauces !!!

Man that makes it tough again. I chose the Loco Luna because I’ve been eating it on everything lately. Ok, coin flip between Cape Fear Red Savina.

CAPE FEAR RED SAVINA for my second choice. Danged two headed coin! Sorry Huv! ;) :D

Did I miss the Loco Luna in the list, or did you find this with further research? I am blind in one eye and can’t see very well out of the other, so doesn’t suprise me that I missed it! LOL!

I agree totally on DC’s Naga Sabi. I have a bottle with me all the time. If they can make enough at a low enough cost, it should win hands down.
