SOME LIKE IT HOT…
Jim Campbell likes it hot, no matter what “it” is.
His job. Food. Vacations. His hobby.
The hotter, the better.
At the ripe age of 10, he grew chili peppers in his parents’ victory garden while his nine brothers and sisters grew more traditional veggies. Back then, he was merely infatuated with the colors and shapes of each chili variety.
But this burning passion for all things hot would eventually lead him to become a decorated lieutenant with the Pike Township Fire Department.
It also would propel him to become one of the most influential people in the chili pepper and hot sauce industry.
Since starting Mild to Wild Pepper & Herb Co. about 15 years ago, Campbell, 48, has helped the underground chili industry hit the mainstream. He has been featured on Food Network several times and is credited by his peers for being a guiding influence in the worldwide chili pepper “brotherhood.”
And he does it all on a part-time basis from his Franklin home.

That actually isn’t a name badge- it’s a “here’s your sign” that says: Yes- I am a real firefighter.
Everyone thinks it’s part of the ‘gimmick’ ![]()
I had the pleasure of meeting this great man at the Fiery Foods show this year. I have never met a more kind, giving person in my life. That goes for his wife Abby, and friend Kyle as well.
Great article Jim, I’m glad to have you as a friend, I’ll reply back to your email this weekend…. The gift you gave me at the show was overwhelming, it will hang in a special place. Thank you

Don’t think the velvet rope could keep Garry and Doug out!!! Wouldn’t be considered a full bar!

Don’t you know that they are our bus boys? We have a whole outfit worked out for them. Kinda of like what the Hooters chicks wear.
Of course they will be behind the velvet rope but they will be working for THT again. Of course we pay in BOOZE!!!!

Oh no Jodie, it took me months to get the visual of the 5th Tamale @ Zest Fest in his sexy shirt out of my head. I DO NOT want to see Doug or Gary in anything close to that !!
Nice article for a very nice guy, that would be you Jim!
Looking forward to seeing you down in Madison. Hope your trip out west was a good one!
Take Care,
e.

Nope- it’s thanks to *you*. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to chat much, but that’s the sign of a good show
I’m looking at Bowers instead of Zest Fest, maybe we’ll have a chance for dinner then.
