I’ll be interested to see what the actual bottle looks like

You’re assuming that I did? Well, you’re right. I thinks it’s going to be awsome. Dave has probably been planning this for a long, long, time.

Nick I have seen better pictures of it. Dave did a pretty Darn good Job with this bottle. I think it’s alittle high on the price. But what do I know.

I signed up, and I’ll be excited to find out some more info on it! It’s about time Dave did something fresh like this. I started my collection years ago with a lot of Dave’s bottles, but I haven’t bought many since because he hasn’t really done anything exciting. 14 million scovilles is pretty exciting! Sure it’s expensive, but money is only there to be spent, right? :)

Well, it would certainly make all the e-bay profiteers think twice before jumping on board. Dave is a class act, and I think (even at $199.00) that a true chile-head would give it some serious consideration. Besides, when Blairs’ collectibles jump three-fold in price within a month of purchase, I think it’s only a matter of time before all the other big players follow suit. Time will tell.

Well, we’d love to get the reserve done in time, but with marination having just begun, it would be tight to get anything out.
Especially because when my reserve comes out, I want it to be as special as we can make it.
Maybe I should pick through Cajohn’s empties and see what he’s got. :-) (He’s got the coolest glass ever, doesn’t he??)
We’re working on getting our Killer BBQ, Killer Wing, Killer Salsa and Killer Hot Nuts out and on the shelves before JC’s birthday, not that we want to compete with the Son of God or anything. But, ’tis the season, am I right?

I almost let this pass then I thought some more about the comment on a true chile - head in your words…… I would say a Chile-head is one who has a passion for Heat and maybe the flavor of the Sauce but doesn’t really collect… Chile -Head collector would have a passion for the Heat and collecting various items, a true collector would be one that doesn’t care about the heat or flavor collects the item for what it is or who’s it from….

So your comment on a true Chile-head would seriously consider this confuses me… I would consider myself a true chili head collector like others that have voiced there opinion not to buy…. Nothing against Dave I’ve never seen him post on hear, never talked with him or emailed him, I collect from CaJohn, Blair, Wild Pepper and all the friends that i’ve met on the blog.

My opinion had nothing to do with Dave’s reserve I’m sure it will be great and will please many, but I understand other people’s point he has had no sauce to my knowledge sell retail new for over $30.00? I’m selective from who I buy from, I for one can’t afford to buy everyone’s sauce… With that said I don’t think anyone is GOD and I don’t think other people do either, do people hold some makers to a higher stanard then other’s? To be honest yes, right or wrong it’s there choice…

Wolud I slam you if you chose not to by a reserve, NO… To each is his own….. One thing that I’ve learned on the HSB and I’ve said it before, the frienships I’ve made out weigh any sauce that I could ever obtain…

Once again my thought’s….

And remember be kind and rewind..

I don’t think the ‘true chilehead’ comment was meant as a dig, just a general observation :-) I sure didn’t read it as ‘if you don’t want one, you’re not a true chilehead’. More like ‘you collect CaJohn so you’re a chilehead, someone else collects Blairs’ so they are also a chilehead, etc’. A ‘chilehead’ being *any* person of the faith, irrespective of their denomination ;-)

I understand your point Jim, but also in his comment he posted how sauces triple in price… So is he collecting for profit or because he’s a chile-head? I know several people who do both, I also fall in that picture I’ve bought dup’s to sell at a later time…. I have yet to sell a sauce though….lol

I guess maybe I would have kept my mouth shut, but had to open it at his later comments which where more of an attack than a comment…

Well said Blane. I just said no mainly because it’s 2 big ones. I’m saving up to go to NM, so no big purchases until then. I was just answering Nick’s question honestly. The last time I said no to a reserve was with the Halloween, seems it drew a little fire also. It’s all godd though. I ended up with a Hallowen reserve regardless and it happens to be my most prized bottle for the time being. Mainly for the reasons that you state. Friends and it’s ties to them. No other Halloween ‘06 out there holds a candle to the one I have, and I’m damned proud of that fact.

Now, the only problem I see with the Dave’s is with the price. But with a total quantity of 200, then I think it could be justified. And especially if this is a rare occurance. Now if Dave plans on cooking these out one after another as others have done recently, then the price could be viewed as high for sure. I personally only have one bottle of Dave’s Private Reserve as it was given as a gift. I’ve never been interested in collecting each year of the same (or practically the same) sauce. I spend my money on Daves for keeping in the fridge. To me, that’s where his products belong, not on a shelf. Same reason for not having a lot of CaJohn’s stuff on my shelf. I keep it in the fridge. Of course I have recently become interested in the sculpted bottles, so that collection will grow as well.

I think it will be very interesting to see what this offering from Dave’s does in the initial market as well as the secondary market even if as a barometer for other products. The collectable side of hot sauce is so unpredictable anyway, so who knows? This think may end up being a runaway train after the initial sale. Look at the Defcon Zero as an example. If I recall, that was not even intended to be a colectable to begin with, but it has turned out to be one of the suprises of the collectable market. You never know. Either way, I’m saving my coin for March. Then it’s Blair’s, Dave’s, THT, Defcon, Tabasco, whatever the hell I see within range of my grubby little hands! :)

I guess what I’m getting at is that Ryans comment, though I’m sure not intentional, just seemed to me to be another “If it’s not Blair, it’s not worth my time” statement. Did I over-react…yes. Sorry Ryan. Is it my place to say who is and who is not a chili-head… of course not. My mistake was to write, “chili-head” without the “collector” tacked on. Blane is absolutely correct in that respect as they can be two different beasts- my bad again. Blane also brings up something that’s important to me as well, buying from someone you know. I first met Dave about two years ago during a foods show in Orange county, CA. There wasn’t a whole lot of people at the time, so me and the wife had a chance to talk to him for a long while. He had just gotten back from China and spent the next 20 minutes with us showing off pictures on his cell phone of some of the exotic foods he had when he was there (and some of them were just plain WRONG). I wish he would log on here from time-to-time, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s right up there with The Creator and CaJohn as being really good people. Probably another reason my hackles were raised at Ryans remark

Never sold a bottle in my life. What I buy, I keep or eat (except for one trade). You know as well as I that I was stating fact in regards to Blairs’ collectibles. It won’t do me any good (maybe my wife, if I die and she sells them-lol)! $199.00 is a lot of money and it may very well be a dud for Dave. But, since this is the first time he’s done anything this grand (and he’s been around as long as Blair- correct?). I think most COLLECTORS would take notice, at the very least.
At the last, like Blane, I’m in total agreement in that the people at this site are some of the best people around. Once again, sorry to step on your toes, Ryan. If I see you in N.M. this year, I owe you a big, sloppy, one.

Everything is good, been busy like everyone else I think….. I play Santa at my wife’s work on Sunday, I’ve did it for the past few years and it’s been a total blast…. It will be extra special this year because it’s my son’s first Christmas and I’ll get to be Santa for him..

How’s everything with you?

I didn’t use to be a collector or a ree-seller, but a guy has got to try and make a nickel at *something* :-) I *try* to sell them, just not a lot of luck & certainly not ‘triple’. I must be doing something wrong :-)

You’re going to give him Huv??!

Huv? Is it…
Heavy Utility Vehicle ?
Human Umbilical Cord Vein?
Human Umbilical Vein ?
Hypocomplementemic Urticarial Vasculitis?
This isn’t the first time I’ve stuck my ass in the fire when it comes to Blair. Except for the Heavy Utility Vehicle, I think I can secure the others for him- LOL!

Not to get back on topic or anything, but has anyone bought one?

I sent 3 emails with no response from Dave’s, and they know me!

On the bright side, I saved $200.00.

Just talked to Aline from Dave’s re: a credit card number for the Holiday Reserves - apparently if you respond quickly to the email they send out, they’ll throw in a free gift.

And very cool ones at that! A signed Insanity T-shirt, a signed cookbook, or a blow-up Insanity sauce bottle (24″ height).
