[poll=7]

Alright folks, here they are - the top entries 15 entries recieved for the Pimp Your Sauce Contest. The entries are displayed in alphabetical order based on the name of the person who sent it in. Names are not listed so as not to influence voting.

Remeber: You can only vote once so choose wisely.

The top ten entries will receive a signed & numbered (1-10) bottle of Blair’s Original Death, circa 94-95. Not only that, but the order the top 10 entries fall in will determine the bottle number they recieve. Meaning, the runner up will receive #2, 3rd place will get #3 and so on and so forth. And, the Grand Prize Winner will receive a 16 Million Reserve, direct from Blair. Voting will end Friday (4/28) at midnight. In the event of a tie, the final decision will be made by a handful of judges.
A big thank you to all that entered. I received over 40 entries (some people entered 3-4 times) and I’m going to work on getting all the honorable mentions up sometime this week.

That’s ashame, just a little over an hour into it and we are already tainted. Nick does “scrub the results” mean a “DO OVER” or do you pull the entry of the double votes.

So far I’m just deleting the double votes - if it keeps happening then the entries will be pulled all together.

Are you just checking IP addresses? I mean, what if a family member votes from the same PC that I do? Just curious, but this could get complicated depending on how you’re checking the results.

Yeah there are going to be 15 biased ;) (or possibly less). I’m biased towards the guinea pig - it took so long to get her to stay still. You can see her tongue out because I’d been giving her lettuce to keep still while I took the photo

I think the nice thing here is that there are only 15 entries. That means that most of these guys are getting a bottle. Its a shame they can not all get one. But everyone has a good chance. I will be willing to bet it comes down to only a vote or two getting towards the 9-11th place. Maybe even a recount for the final place. I can’t wait to see the results :)

I have not voted yet, just for reasons like this.

Everyone: The voting is IP based as you may have noticed, but cookies are also at work. If you have been cookied on 2 computers and vote from them both, then one of those votes is going to be removed - I understand that you may have your wife or friend voting too, but in order to be fair, this is the way it has to be.

If you have workmates or friends trying to vote from the same IP, they won’t be able to - so ask them to vote from home.

I wish I could have gotten mine to show up that well in the dark. Mine actually has a flashing L.E.D. trio inside the bottle that flashes when the bottle is shaken, I just couldn’t get the pics to come out well enough to show it.

Great job everyone, I know a lot of work went into all of these and I like all of them, especially #3! ;)

No, sadly not… been away on holiday recently and work has been a pain in the neck since I got back, so only got about half way through pimping my bottle of Eve :(

Not that I would have stood a chance with the quality of the finalists anyway, but its always fun to take part.

Once again, good luck to the finalists - its a nice prize 10 of you are gonna win!

Well, I have to co-workers that wanted to vote because they helped a little in the supply dept. when I was putting mine together. They don’t post here, but visit on occasion. One of them is starting to collect a little.

I don’t see any harm in it from people that are close or related. Look at it this way, getting someone to visit to vote on this thing will just expose that many more people to the blog. Who knows how many closet chiliheads could be snagged with this contest.

I’m in the same boat. I’m not soliciting random votes, but only votes from close friends, family, and the people who helped me out when I started putting my ideas together. It doesn’t seem to be working though :-)

But I have to ask, that’s not against the rules is it? Like DK says, the more people who vote, the more exposure the blog gets.

That’s still not right. What it then comes down to is a popularity contest and/or who has a bigger family. Granted this may be getting more exposure for the blog, but if they’re not participating in the day to day threads, I honestly don’t believe they should be able to vote. This is looking very similar to the 2004 presidential race and we all know that was a bunch of crap. What I’m getting at is he who has the most friends and family members (even co-workers) willing to take a few seconds to vote is the winner. There needs to be a something done about this.

I’m not sure there’s an easy solution. I mean, I read this blog religiously, but I rarely post comments (until now :-)) Should it only be people who regularly comment, or also include those who just read? And how can you tell?

Not that I disagree with you entirely, because I don’t. But I don’t see a way that this could possibly be kept truly fair, and I think Nick is doing the best he can already.

I know some of you guys are fanatical about collecting (and that’s cool) but contests like this are for fun, right?

Yes, they are fun, but look at any other contest out there where there is a prize that is wanted badly by the participants. Some will do anything to win the prize, even cheat, which according to Nick is happening. Someone is going to get severely screwed over here simply becaue people are willing to break the rules. Yes, I would like one of the bottles, who wouldn’t? But I’m not calling my family, friends and co-workers to ask them to vote for me in an effort to cheat and secure a bottle. I say the voting should start over and the votes be scrutinized even more so than they have been. I’ll be e-mailing Nick.

Contest are fun and some people are fanatical about collecting. Not sure if I agree with he who has the most friends wins. If that is the case everyone that submitted a entry should in the running not just the top fifteen. Nick is doing a great job and it is great to get more people exposed to the site and you can’t make everyone happy. Just hope that the people that win feel they won it fair.

Ryan, I think what Nick was doing this morning was trying to nip it in the bud before anything got out of hand. I think he saw where my two co-workers voted from the same network and assummed it was me posting duplicate votes. I have emailed him already, it’s all good. I sure hope noone here is purposely inflating the counts. I can understand how my issue this morning could have been viewed as such, but I don’t think even those two votes (which will be recast tonight anyway from their home) would help me anyway. Nick is doing all he can to track this stuff, believe me. I have seen the vote counts go up and come back down on several of the entries, so if there is anyone up to no good, Nick will take care of it.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but I’m not sure I would say anyone is actually cheating. The only rule I’ve heard regarding voting is “one vote per IP address”. Simply because Nick is removing multiple votes from the same IP does not necessarily imply cheating as you can have multiple family members (say mr. & mrs. eman, both voting from home, both active participants) or people at the same large office.

The point of all this was to have fun, not to create an accounting/security nightmare for Nick. If you want to tighten this up, let Nick decide alone, or create a panel to vote or leave it to the top ten or twenty posters, or maybe hire Price Waterhouse like the Oscars, but do it NEXT TIME.

Let’s all enjoy each others creativity and the entertainment it brings. Among other things, I hope that this blog is designed to add new members to the chile head community and is not designed to exclude participation and increased awareness. The prizes may not be so generous next time without a proper attitude.

Just my $0.02. Good luck to all who entered.

I have seen the vote counts go up and come back down on several of the entries, so if there is anyone up to no good, Nick will take care of it.

if multiple computers are in fact on the same network, they wouldn’t be able to vote. Networks have an IP address and unless you tell it to change the IP address. My home and office are both on networks. I let my wife vote at home (ya’ll know her as Mrs. Ryan) because she has nowhere else to vote from, and I vote at the office. Due to that, I can’t vote from home, and nobody in the office can vote if I’ve already done it (checked to make sure).

Comment #65:
Comment by capsicum at ttp (22) - 4/24/2006 @ 4:29 pm |

So, I guess Nick should have limited the entries to only those with such-and-such a number of posts? It sounds like you are saying why should someone that doesn’t spend every waking moment reading and posting on here have a chance to win, or even to vote? That would be fair, huh? If you aren’t on the top twenty, don’t bother?

I know you weren’t talking about entries, but your argument could be carried out that far, using your logic.

It’s the world wide web..not the ryan and who he thinks should vote web. And this is a public blog anyone can log on and vote. Last time I checked this isn’t RED CHINA!!!!! My Pic didn’t make the top 15 and I’m not crying…geez.
you have a bunch of days left to win this thing, so get on it.

Thanks for your two cents Newman. No, this isn’t the “Ryan Blog”. Before you get your panties into more of a wad than they already are because you’re not looking at the BIG picture, I am not the only one affected by this. The whole thing is. I don’t believe anyone likes to lose to a cheater, not to mention possible multiple cheaters. If an entry did not make it into the top 15, it wasn’t due to any campaigning that anyone did, unlike what is going on here. I’m not complaining that mine hasn’t received as many votes as others, I don’t mind losing in a FAIR competition. I’m complaining that the playing field is not even and it should be. If any of you take pleasure in losing, what is supposed to be an honest contest, to people that cheat, then by all means let the world know. You don’t see cheaters winning the olympics, they get stripped of their medals. I am only following the standards that have been placed on the vast majority of other contests and competitions. **insert unfriendly hand gesture**

As it has stated in past contests, inflation of votes will be removed, and possible disqualification. We’ve already got a couple people that have admitted to getting co-workers to vote, family and friends to join in as well. Like I said earlier, I’ll talk it over with Nick.

Ok, not to get technical here. It is possible to be on the same “network” and have a different IP address out to the internet. It depends how they set it up. You could sit right next to someone who uses a different addy and a person 3 floors up can have the same. It all depends on the gateway you go through to connect to the internet.

It is also possible to have a different address through your home PC. This depends on if your ISP assigns you a static IP or not. Most dial-up is giving when you log in and therefore you dont always have the same one. Of course, most people have broadband and these are almost always static so they keep the same IP.

If you are curious and want to check, just go here and you will see what your IP address is:

http://www.ipaddressworld.com/

check at different times and you will see
