Smoked Habanero Sauce with Tequila
Chuk Hell's Smokin' Hot Sauce

So ya, I got the buzz about this sauce from various blogs and forums awhile back. And even before I had heard what was said I had already made up in mind that Chukhell seems like a reputable guy who can stand behind his product. I was impressed first of all by the simple representation of this sauce. From the leather wrapped label to the sticker super imposing the original jar label. Although plain – it was done well. Even before I opened this I started to think that this was more of BBQ sauce than a hot sauce. I was just not used to seeing a hot sauce come in this format. Perhaps it may be due to 5oz woozy brainwashing but I will admit it doesn’t lend itself to be a friendly pourer.

As soon as I opened this up the thought of this being a BBQ sauce was gone. Straight ahead hot sauce here.

Visually the sauce looks really nice. A deep brown with visible chunks and thick enough for me to a scoop out healthy doses with a spoon.

Ingredients: Habaneros, garlic, onion, lime juice, carrots, tequila, honey, apple cider, vinegar, salt, black pepper

Instant Fire on the Tongue Chuk wasn’t kidding around with the smoked habaneros. Not only is the aroma extremely smoky, but the habs pack a nice punch in here and the fruitful nature is quite apparent. This sauce has instant fire on the tongue that comes with the smoke and it lingers off into a nice glow shortly after. Be warned though, this is quite hot and the heat hits fast. I really tried to pick out the tequila, but it wasn’t easy. The smoked habs mask many of the other flavours.

I tried this on a pork chop and it blended it incredibly. I can’t see many applications for this outside of BBQ though. From burgers, to steak, ribs and chicken, this will enhance any grilled meat.

Either way this is a decent sauce that packs in some really good heat. If you have a chance to get a hold of this go for it!

Packaging 8/10 – simple but effective
Aroma 9/10 – delicious smoked habanero’s
Appearance 8/10 – deep brown with flecks of ingredients
Taste 8/10 – Rich smoky taste
Heat 8/10 – Quick flash of hot heat – doesn’t linger long

Overall 8.3/10 – Great stuff here.

Right On Chuk, Glad to see your stuff cross over onto this blog!
Is this the sauce you had me try at ZestFest. It not I’m sure it is still a very good sauce after tasting to what I had sampled.
Take the plunge Chuk there’s room for ya in this business and I feel ya do just fine.

Wow!

Somehow I missed this…usually I log on everyday. Good thing my wife reads this blog religiously!

Thank you so much for the awesome review. I really appreciate it. Everyone one I’ve meet in the hot sauce biz has been just wonderful. What a fine group of people!

Yes, this is one of the sauces I had at ZF. The other I call “Magic Blend #2″ and is a roasted hab sauce with ginger, honey and whisky. I was giving out samples of both at random.

We plan to file papers to start the company in early ‘07 then it’s just a matter of about 10 hoops to jump through, get a business loan and then start making hot sauce. I can’t wait to go commercial!

Once again, I really appreciate the review. It’’s an honor to be reviewed on the HSB!!!
