Bottle Description: Here it is! A hot sauce that’s made by two fat guys that have a love for food and a passion for heat. We’ve been to hell and back to come up with a sauce that’s unrivaled in heat and flavor. The result is the best sauce this side of hell. Enjoy! ~Charles and Steve
Ingredients: vinegar, habaneros, tomato puree, onion, cayenne pepper, garlic
Container: I like this kind of design. Simple name with a big eye catching picture. This is the kind of stuff that gets some notice on the store shelves. Devil, mushroom cloud, fire, hell, the label looks the way a Black Sabbath song sounds, and that can’t be bad.
Appearance: A red brown puree with seeds. Nothin you haven’t seen before.
Smell: Holy hell that’s a lot of habanero and cayenne. The tomato and vinegar balance each other that and the onion and garlic are a nice addition to the overall aroma of the sauce. Nice.A lot of habanero and cayenne
Consistency: No complaints.
Taste: There’s a healthy dose of vinegar in this. Devil’s Own is a sauce that’s similar to CaJohn’s purees. I’m lazy, so though I appreciate the DIY foundation of a Cajohn puree I like to have the maker add the rest of the ingredients for me. The tomato, habanero and cayenne do a good job at keeping the vinegar sharpness at bay but the taste of onion and garlic are a bit subdued for me taste but are there. The onion and garlic sneak by.

Heat: (8.7/10) Not as hot as hell that’s for sure. More like kissing the asphalt on a hot Texas day. If you’re very experienced you should have no problems. However if you’re new, portion this stuff out. Do not be over zealous. I can handle a lot of hot but each time I use this sauce I’m surprised by how much zing it has. Work of the Devil I’m sure.
Field Test: You want foods that go good with pepper flavor. Instead of adding it to a pure cut of meat I generally use this on food that’s multifaceted: burritos, Chinese food, chili. I would recommend taking this sauce to restaurants.
Final Word: I see this sauce as more of a puree. It’s got a strong habanero and cayenne flavor that you don’t find too often in sauces which is good but you have to match it with foods that already have their own unique flavor. For instance: adding this sauce to a burrito adds the simple flavors of pepper to a delicious burrito AND makes it hot. For that reason it’ll be the sauce that’s in your fridge for quite a while but you’ll enjoy using it when you have something good to use it on.
Overall: 8.0/10. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that fat guys will never lead you wrong when it comes to food. Be picky with this sauce.

“the label looks the way a Black Sabbath song sounds, and that can’t be bad.”
Now that was a good line! Great review!
Your totally slacking on letting me try your review sauces, I think ive let you try like 10 of my new paid for sauces, and havent touched one of your review sauces your slacking, I want to try this one! Any sauce thats good on a burrito is good in my fridge.
Always about the labels….amazing!!!!
yes I believe the truth is it’s always about the labels, if it’s generic or not eye catching people will pass it by.
so i guess most people are label collecting not hot sauce collectors ummmm interesting

Who’s collecting? I’m gonna buy this sauce, open it, slather it on some fast food burritos, and crank up Paranoid on the Stereo! This stuff will probably be gone before the end of the CD! It’s all about everything man, the label, the sauce, the food, the music! Rock on truth!

ummmm - no. Although I am a proponent for your remarks I think you flew off the handle here. Granted there may be people here who collect solely for labels. I know people who collect much weirder things. We review bottles as a whole. Clint just went along with our regular reviewing criteria. So maybe direct your comments to an individual rather than a generic comment. What Clint stated was perfect.

As for collectors, I think it’s about the label. If it’s for consumption, it’s about the sauce. But an eye catching lablel and/or name, may get the consumer for the first time to try it, then if they like they will buy it over and over again.
There was just a big discusion about this, the “gimmick” as was stated in the thread. Sorry, I don’t remember which thread off to the top of my head.
it was in the last review that clint did. I love a good gimmick whether i eat the sauce or not, BUT as i stated in the other thread, I also will only collect what catches my eye, whether it be a label or a bottle. i may consume other sauces but if something other than the sauce does not appeal to me I won’t put it on my special shelf. AGAIN i state that for myself and how/what I collect I am in no way speaking for anyone else.

Thanx Mrs R. I agree, I left out the bottle. A kewl shaped bottle is always nice to display too. I suppose there are collectors out there, that would like to just display everything they can get their hands on too. To me, that’s just too much to try and track down, but definately good for them. I’m sure we’ve all seen Vic and Wendy’s collection, they must have like 1 of everuthing in there, no matter what it is.

Well, the review seems to have more emphasis on the sauce than the label, only 5 lines dedicated to it’s description. But What a label, and the description was spot on. I feel the rest of the review will be spot on as well. I will absolutely buy this sauce to consume, maybe even one to display alongside my Heavy metal CD collection as well.
truth, your comments are always welcome here, but it seems you are the only one hung up on labels, so just let it go. This horse has beaten to death. Labels are a part of the package. I guarantee no matter what a collector says, it’s never JUST about the label! ![]()
Vic and wendies collection is expansive if not impressive, it displays their passion for something they enjoy. both are great people I love them. as long as we are on impressive collections we may as well throw MSK into this. another passionate collector that will go to the ends of the earth for a signature on a sauce he is also one helluva guy ![]()

Well bigshow, we want at least one of everything eventually! Though to be perfectly honest with you, we buy two and sometimes even three of alot of sauces. We don’t do it that much when purchasing online, but from brick n’ mortars, grocerers, etc.
Quantity has aslways been my primart focus, but with so many high caliber quality sauces our eyes have been opened too- we are attempting to find that happy medium between the best of both worlds, if that makes sense.
Hey hats off to you on both the review and for your musical taste! Rock on dude!

Preaching to the choir here, truth! However, at first impression there is nothing else to go *other* than the label. Just like when the kid shows up to take your daughter out, if he’s wearing a dog collar, spikes, tatts, and hasn’t bathed in a week, you’re not going to have the same impression of him if he shows up in a tux
Until you get to know them, all you have to go on is visuals! Simple to assume, though NOT guaranteed, that a professional label means a professional sauce.

I’m home, bigshow is still there. Mrs Huvason came and wanted to leave early….. was definitely fun though. Creator surprises as usual - DEFCON 0.4 wings (thta’s right POINT FOUR). Some Duffs patrons tried them and were in serious pain. bigshow and I ate them OK. Seems if you eat them like humans (slowly) they aren’t bad. DO NOT GET ME WRONG - they are hot. Nice building heat. Just dont eat them 10 in a minute!
Definitely wish I could have stayed - things were JUST starting to get busy when I left. But the Mrs Wasn’t feeling well (remember what we discuss a few monthes ago Mrs R?)
Ok this isnt the grey background right?
For some reason i had nick’s email saved into the box where i was supposed to put my email.
Why?
I do not know. It doesnt come up grey when i view the page.
However, i DID review Devil’s Own so maybe the devil did it.
The mistake is rectified.
well that was neet! ![]()
ok clint I believe you, and why do i believe you? because we just did an experiment and figured out that if we use nicks email it does turn grey on our screen, HOWEVER in order for us to see it nick or jr would have had to approve it sooooooo what;s really going on? ![]()

yeah that makes sense. my prime focus is the reserves, and specialty bottles, more high end, but i do collect others too, especially the hotttt ones. but whenever i see something i think is cool, i pick it up.

Glad to see you guys survived! Defcon .4, No wing with straight zero? Looks like Creator is turning this into a test market, maybe a new level of Defcon on the market soon? If there was significant heat above the Deathmatch sauce, there’s no way I’m touching the .4, not on wings anyway. The .5 was right at or past my pain threshold.
Anybody get any pics? Can’t wait to hear more about this event. Thanks for the updates.

I really do not think so. Its hard to tell since I could eat them together. Also the .5 wings seemd much hotter since you had to eat so many so fast. The .4 were hot as well but not painful cuz you would eat and just wait, then eat another. I’m sure is I ate 10 .4 wings in a minute I could give a better answer (or if the creator had .5 there)
Does that make any sense?

If you didn’t follow that, the .4 didn’t seem as hot as the .5, but we think that is only cause we ate one at a time slowly. Not trying to shove multiples down as quick as you can. But yes, still very hot! of course to some rookies there, they were beyond hot, and needed sugar after to get rid of the bite!
Need to thank Creator and mrs Creator for another great Defcon Day, and big Jimmy Duff, for his hospitality too.

Not a problem man, I appreciate you showing up, and understand you guys had to go. The place really didn’t start jumping until after 1am. I just hope you liked you little ‘present”.

Definitely liked, and appreciated it. It is already on the DEFCON shelf of doom (they were evicted from the pink house - seems my daughter wanted it back!)

Smilies - HSB Rules & Regs - Spamtastic?

Great review Clint! I thought the same thing about the label, first thing that came to mind when I saw it was Black Sabbath! N.I.B. was the first song to pop into my head. I’m gonna get a bottle of this for sure. I love a puree type sauce for the pureness of the pepper flavor, this will probably be right up my alley.
Thanx Clint, this review Rocks!
