Trenholm Venom Hot Sauce

Nick recently posted the press release information about this sauce & I was lucky enough to get it in my latest batch of hot sauces to review.

“Trenholm rhymes with venom. The name of a legendary southern shipping captain fits our hottest sauce. Trenhom Venom rages with red habaneros, roasted red peppers, peaches, ginger and herbs. Try it on salmon, oysters, scallops, shrimp, pork, beef lamb, chicken wings, sandwiches, cheeses and vegetables. (Pronounced TREN-um)”

I had mixed feeling about this initially. Reason being it had peaches in the ingredients. For new readers, I personally don’t like fruity sauces. But, even though it said it had peaches in the ingredients it never touted itself as a fruit sauce. Plus Trenholm Venom sounds much more intimidating then Peach Venom.

This is serious sauce. The sauce itself is a very bright red with pleasant pieces visible. The smooth texture and steady consistency here is just like the drawl of a South Carolina accent. This is serious sauce. No matter what school of sauce you come from you can’t deny that this is fantastic stuff.

If you try this sauce, take your first sample of it while reading the ingredients list at the same time. You will be able to pick out each ingredient surfacing in the order as they are listed. They all combine to make one tasty, perfectly heat packed punch.

Ingredients: Fire-roasted red peppers, red habanero peppers, fresh onions, peaches, distilled vinegar, fresh garlic, fresh ginger root, fresh herbs, molasses, honey, seasonings, spices, citric acid, xanthan gum, kosher salt

I smothered my wings in these. Then smothered them again. This sauce would be a perfect topper for some pork chops, chicken breast, poured in soups or even as a dip. I think the added peaches in this is what helps separate it from the crowd (yes I am enjoying peaches in a hot sauce). They add just the right amount of sweetness the works perfectly with habs. For beginners this would be too hot. So warn your guests. Those feeling adventurous will be open up to a new world of great heat and incredible flavor. I also recommend that you take a look at their web-site as they have some fabulous recipes there.

From the bottle to the finished product, everything here has been give that extra bit of special attention. This is great stuff!

Packaging 9.7/10 – Great colours - Bigger than average flask style bottle is a bonus
Aroma 8.5/10 – Fresh and Bright
Appearance 9/10 – Bright Red with tiny visible pieces – very very appealing
Taste 9.7/10 – A myriad of flavours that work beautifully together
Heat 7/10 – A nice amount of heat

Overall 9.6 – This is an outstanding sauce that should be on the list for any hot sauce fanatics that like some sweetness with some great heat!
