I know Nick did a review this quite some time ago. I have kept myself from going back to that review to remain as unbiased as possible.
The first thing I have to point out is the bottle. You see my bottle says it is a 5oz. In fact it is a 12oz whopper. The fact is that this large bottle probably helped it get a bonus point because I now have a bigger picture in which I see the sauce as opposed to a 5oz bottle. This hot sauce looks great. You can see chunks of pepper inside it. It has a pleasant consistency and the aroma is nice. It is a vinegar based habanero sauce so be ready for that. Vinegar is the first ingredient on the list.
Ingredients: Vinegar, red habanero peppers, lemon juice, water, sea salt, garlic, corn starch, spices.
So, let’s get back to basics here. Scotty B has created a sauce here. Not just a run of the mill vinegar based habanero sauce. He created THE sauce. Nothing fancy, he took the basic formula and nearly perfected it. If you don’t like vinegar based sauces look elsewhere. But if you want an honest to goodness vinegar/habanero based sauce this is the one. Devil Drool has a beautiful red/orange color with a more watery than thick consistency and some awesome heat to boot.
To date I have used this as a substitute for ketchup – it is just incredible on fries, topped off my burgers, hot dogs, subs, you name it.
For my review you get to see the finger field test:
This style of sauce is staple to the industry and many manufacturers have this kind in some incarnation or another in their line-up. And they do it well for the most part. I find that Scotty B has made this sauce his sauce. He knows he has competition out there so he took the classic formula one step farther. I don’t know if it is the ingredients he uses or the ratio of the ingredients he uses but I hope he won’t change it.
The one thing I would like to see in Scotty B’s repertoire is an extract based habanero sauce based on this recipe (did I say that out loud).

Well good thing I didn’t cover up all of the “Southern Style” with the drippings. (Ya I licked the label clean after).
Way to go buddy! Got this Devil droolin’ now. Bring that finger any closer and you’ll be pullin’ back a nub.

wonderful and Spicy weekend!!! This is a great tasting product for a vinegar based sauce. It has a pureed texture that lets it spread through out the mouth to fully enjoy the taste and heat. Alot of people are surprised by the initial taste profile before they are overwhemed by the Devilish Heat. Then comes on the mouth watering, hence the Drool. Ahh simple pleasures in life are great.

Now this is what I’ve said before about what the reader’s really are looking to these reviews for good, honest opinions about the products that are featured by HSB reviewers. Just a little thought about the whole “vinegar based” thing. It is the essence of hot sauce to be vinegar based. It was mostly vinegar when the first ones were made and it is a starting point for most sauces. There has to be a preservative to make the product shelf stable. Some manufacturers take liberty with the ingredient declaration to call vinegar by another name. An FDA acceptable name, but yet they avoid saying vinegar. Others aren’t so scrupulous and will move the ingredients around the way they want them to look. We have a sauce we acquired that had Thai in the name, so the owner called out Thai chiles as the first ingredient, there weren’t any in the recipe!
Anyway, all that aside, I too like the “Old School” sauces with a vinegar bite! I’m looking forward to trying this one!

Sauce work is going slowly - too slowly. Mrs Huvason is having a BBQ tomorrow and I’ve been laying a new brick paver patio out back - about 25×25. I can barely move!!! Going in the hot tub shortly
Getting up early to cook though!
Best of luck with it huv!!! I’ve got to go to the cabin to get in my hot tub. That would have been a good place to spend the weekend, but it was rented. I was 1/3 of the way there at Jungle Jim’s!

Hot tubs in winter isn’t a bad thing, but I freeze so badly when I get out that I just won’t do it any more.
