I have mixed emotions about this actually. The book, while entertaining, goes against fact, reason and history. Ask any expert.

Totally agree about this being fictional!!!!!!!! I’d like to take it one step further and say that it’s blasphemous. Thank You Brian for that comment.

Bring two- a milder one they might like, and a crazy one to impress them The first is to maybe recruit a few new chileheads to the fold, the second to shut up the one or two that think they’re already ‘all that’.

I feel bad for the author of the book, I believe he wrote it as a piece of fiction and he is really taking some heat for it now, because a select few have chosen to believe it’s real.

if you put into the perspective of he wrote this as a piece of fiction, for entertainment, it doesn’t have to be true. I do understand that he really offended some religious persons (all over the world) with this book, L. Ron Hubbard has written some pretty far out books also, started the scientology religion, with Dianetics. I guess what I am saying is if we keep this in perspective, in my opinion there wouldn’t be anything to take offensively.

he probably did to tell you the truth, not this much contraversy, I should probably not have typed anything since I don’t understand nor agree with organized religion, the way I look at it is this…. “hello people it’s a book made into a movie” but again that’s just me, and i don’t expect people to agree with me.

I went and saw it last night. It was entertaining I guess. I knew it was pretty much fiction anyway. The problem I have with Dan Brown and the book/movie is he basically believes alot of the stuff he wrote about. I say this cause I have seen him numerous time defending all the stuff on tv. He weaves enough truth into his fiction to fool alot of people. I believe that was for a reason. I think that is the big problem alot of people have with it. You have really got to know your history not to come out thinking at least some of it is true. But as I have done some research much of it was pure bunk. In the end it probably served the purpose he intended to achieve, making alot of money…

Not that I disagree with you about anything, I’m just thinking that the topic of the book/movie needs to take a different turn than it has. While I respect everyone’s views on religion, whether the author of the book believes what he wrote or not, please respect EVERYONE’s views about religion. The movie was made for entertainment. I don’t believe the book was intended to sway people’s beliefs, the man is an author. He wrote a book because that is the profession he has chosen. In that sort of profession, you have to bring attention to your work. The best way to do it is to write something controversial. I don’t recall seeing the encylopedia britanica on the New York Times best seller list. So lets not preach about what is and isn’t fictional about the book/movie, cause there are those out there that believe the whole bible is fictional. I would hate to see this blog turn into a battle of who’s religeon or beliefs are supposedly right.

True dat man. Don’t get me wrong I really like all of Dan Brown’s books minus Da Vinci Code ( cause I have not read it). He writes an excellent fast paced thriller. I also agree with you on the book not being written to sway one’s beliefs. If you are that easily swayed in what you believe then were you really sure about it in the first place? In the end I want the blog to stay on hot sauce as the main topic not arguing about other ’stuff’

But in reality, that is the problem. Dan Brown and some others are promoting the work as FACT. Just look at the book. The first page after the title page is titled FACT. What follow is information about the Priory of Sion, a so-called “European secret society founded in 1099″, whose members include “Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo and Leonardo da Vinci”.

The actual FACT is that this actual parchment was placed in Paris’s Bibliotheque Nationale rather recently by two Frenchmen who confessed to creating the whole thing to see if they could get away with it. The fraud is that Dan Brown is using known falsehoods as truths. Don’t believe me. Believe the History Channel, 60 minutes and 20/20 who have all reached the same conclusions.

So in summary, I agree that the issue is that some are making a work of fiction out to be fact. However, the issue goes much deeper in that it is the author himself who is a primary culprit in the scheme. Dan Brown and others seem to be purposely attempting to undermine organized religion, with the Roman Catholic Church as the largest and most well known target.

…if you haven’t tried any of the Loco sauces yet, then you really need to! Highly recommended. Great on steak!

Right on Brian. I have no problem with anyone busting on religion with fiction, but to make a fictional movie, and present and try to qualify it as fact is wrong. The mainstream media jumped all over this from the start and did just that. Cripes, could you imagine if someone made a movie like this about Allah? A couple of recent cartoons and they were shooting people in the streets.
