Scott: There’s a red/black numbered 2AM on eBay. I saw it yesterday and the bid was at 29.00. If you do a search, look at the webstore results at the bottom of the page. That’s where I found it.

I’m after a numbered 2am and 3am..
Not got anything to trade for em though and, being based in UK, will need international shipping! Sheesh, I’m not making things easy for myself am I? :(

Matt, one bit of advice - be careful with international shipping on a Caldera - they are very sensitive!!

Ok, here it is on this post

OK…things are a bit rough right now in Hot sauce Land. My inbox was flooded today when I got home from work (thanks guys, Im not complaining)
Seems like we have a little difference in our group. Guys, come on…its about 1 thing, Hot sauce and our love for it. This past weekend was difficult for all of us. The ones that went to NM and tried to give us updates and the ones that stayed home hoping for a glimpse of the show. We all dogged each other. People in NM how great it was and what bottles they got. People at home taking out their frustrations on a caption for a picture contest.
We are all guilty of playing into it. No, I dont agree on some of what went down. As some of you know I said I felt like a dog under the table at Thanksgiving. (waiting for scraps). This was in reference to Creator taunting us all weekend about not having and defcon 0 left for us. Some of us wanted to say Ok, fine. we dont need it, but in reality we do want a bottle and appreciated the fact that Creator did say he was bringing some home for us. People express themselves differently and be glad they do. What kind of place would HSB be if we all agreed?
We are now pointing fingers and shunning some of those on the blog.
Guys, if thats what you want, then its ok to see some of them go. I for one welcome all that everyone has to say. In fact, thats how the signed HSB bottle idea came about, some late night chat. No, Im not sucking up, if I dont agree, I will say so or skip reading it.
Ryan, dude, I dont know what exactly happened, but you better be back posting here soon. You had some good things to say and the pink helmet gave everyone a laugh.

This place is a heck of a deal for all manufacturers. They get to see what is going on in their market and can form a bond with their people.
I reallly hate to see hard feelings come out of this past weekend. maybe we can all learn something from this.

Got a question here. I always hear about the Blair’s Hot Pot and Smokin Hot Pot but dont hear much about the “Hemp N Hot sauce” by Blair. Is it that much more rare or just not wanted as much?

I have a hemp n hot w/ hackey sack but not the other two.

I also have to agree with Chris..I didn’t read all the offensive quotes but I think he’s right in the fact that most of us were sitting at our computers waiting for any photo or post from an antendee, and perhaps things just got carried away.

I know how bad I wanted to be there but I couldn’t. I ate a habenero, and spiced the weekend up to make it FEEL like I was part of this special weekend.

I’m sure everyone else feels the same.

I also think posting a “Disturbing photo” asking for captions you should expect some disturbing responses.

I have a quick question - I saw a Dave’s Private Reserve 1998 which was signed and number #17115. Are we to assume that somebody’s really signing 17,000+ bottles? Or does Dave have some other method of numbering? I can’t imagine the time it would take someone to sign that many bottles, even with a team of 10 “dave’s”.

Comment #90:
Comment by Adam2 (284) - 3/7/2006 @ 11:44 pm | [ Quote ]

That also reminds me, I once sent Dave’s Gourmet a 1997 Reserve to be resigned, after the sig and # got all smudged. It came back to me with no number and a giant DAVE printed on the bottle with a cheap marker. It looked like a 1st grader wrote it! And they still included a note from “dave” thanking me for my business. They basically ruined my bottle, and that was NO WAY Dave’s actual signature.

Comment #91:
Comment by MSK (591) - 3/7/2006 @ 11:46 pm | [ Quote ]

Can’t say for sure Adam, but I’m guessing they are hand numbered. That is until 2003 when the first machine printed numbers began.

Comment #92:
Comment by Adam2 (284) - 3/7/2006 @ 11:55 pm | [ Quote ]

If he did hand number them, I applaud him. That is some serious dedication! I wonder if he has carpal-tunnel syndrome by now?

Comment #93:
Comment by parker394 (622) - 3/8/2006 @ 12:14 am | [ Quote ]

Lets see….17,000+ times writing your name. Seems like quite the chore…every year huh?

Comment #94:
Comment by MSK (591) - 3/8/2006 @ 12:19 am | [ Quote ]

Presently I have only 1 of each year ‘94 - ‘05. Back when I had multible bottles I tried to determine your very question. While it seems impossible to hand number that many, I for one couldn’t see any pattern that led me to believe they were machine printed prior to ‘03.

I’d be willing to bet someone comes along shortly with a definitive answer.

On another note….Many moons ago I inquired to Dave’s regarding the number of bottles in each addition. They were not able to give an exact number, only approximates. Since then I’ve gone through a few computers and the saved response was lost. :(

Just for fun, I crunched a few numbers - Signing 17,000 bottles would be signing about 46 bottles per day, all 365 days a year. If you don’t count weekends or holidays, then we’re talking more like 75 bottles a day.

Adam you ask a great question. One I’m sure many a collector has wondered over. As far as my observations (hand signed vs machined), it’s just that, a personal observation.

Ryan, they’re still highly collectible. Try finding a ‘94 or ‘95. The availability is slim picking to the extreme.

1996 & ‘97…emerge occassionally but with less frequency each passing year.

1998 appear plentiful. If I remember correctly, it had the highest bottle issue of any year ‘94 thru ‘99.

I suppose some collectors find it less desirable due to possible machine printing or for any number of reasons. For this collector, it’s the thrill of the hunt! ;) And hunt I do! :)

This should eliminate any question regarding the years between 1994 thru ‘97. I’ve no idea why I didn’t address this before now. All my bottles have no labels affixed to the bottles. Each one is hand signed and numbered in gold pen. Adam is this the case (or was) with your ‘97 before sending it in?

On the front of each label 1998 thru 2005 is an area that appears to be of different properties than the rest of the label. It looks to be more like paper and measures 7/8″h x 1 3/4″w. This is were the sig/number appear.

Comment by Adam2 (284) - 3/8/2006 @ 1:45 am | [ Quote ]

Yes, my 1997 bottle was originally signed and numbered in gold ink right on the bottle. My only other reserve is a 1999 numbered #349, but I opened it years ago! Ooops!

Slowly Eric. I’m just getting over this really nasy cold I’ve been fighting the last week and a half. My open 3AM is currently sitting at the office
:-( Some of our hispanic people had a little cook off in our lunch room and had some homemade hot sauce. I asked what was in it, they replied habaneros. I grabbed a spoon and started to dip it in when they shouted “NOOOO! don’t do it, you’ll kill yourself”. I proceeded anyway and took it with no problem. I was then dubbed an honorary mexican. I told them about the 3AM and they wanted to see if they were more of a man than myself. So I took it to the office to let them try it and….well…they don’t ever want to see the stuff again. Forgot to bring it home, so there it sits for now.

Acidophilus increases the flora in the digestive tract. This used in coordination with Wobenzyme, and other probiotics will drastically increase systemic enzymes in the digestive tract. Many people suffer from the same problem, but use of the two gems in coordination with one another should alleviate most of the problematic symtoms of the infamous “trots”, “runs, “green apple quickstep”, or whatever you want to call it. Sorry to get technical, but the symptoms you are currently witnessing are caused by the same involuntary spasms one may endure when one is susceptible to ‘irritable bowel symdrome’, which causes spasms in the lower gastrointestinal region shortly after eating. Capsaicin and its extraction offshoots can cause this reaction. Capsaicin is a master at fooling the grey matter in your skull, however, this can be a side effect to some. Annoying as it may be, it is harmless, unless of course you’re stuck in a subway and have a BM on a 300 pound man named Bubba.

Pmac, feeling lethargic is not a usual occurence, perhaps it was the beers, the high may have been a slight endorphin release, sitting here, it’s impossible to tell. Capsaicin has been used for thousands of years, dating back to the Myan and Inca people. To this day we still use it to fool the brain. Products like “Capzacin” have capsaicin in it. It fools the brain into thinking there is a major problem, which there isn’t. The brain reacts by sending torrents of blood to the supposed area inorder to heal what is not harmed, hence all the topical cremes that induce blood flow (icy hot, heet, etc.). There are numerous side effects to this, as everyones physiology is a bit different, like a thumbprint. One of the most common is the body’s “urge to purge”, whether it be north or south or the stomach. An immediate reaction is to puke, but once ingested and masticated, and the digestion process has begun, it’s south of the border for the purging. As I stated, to avoid this form of annoyance, it’s best to go on a regimen of probiotics, which will boost your digestive tract’s ability to metabolize the evil little monsters which are causing you to increase your water bill.

Kristi, I guess you could say that. I’ve been studying this stuff for quite a few years now, hence “The Creator” and his lovely little lab. Capsaicin is a cute, yet cunning little specimen of Nature. Fun to play with, but just like fire, when you think you’ve conquered it, it burns you (no pun intended).

Pmac, I’m not privy to the ingredients of the sauce you used, if it was an extract sauce, THAT may be the reasoning behind your problem. Extracts can be quite unpredictible in their effects. Of course they are all hot, but I’m not talking about the heat. Extracts themselves will magnify any slight weakness you may have. Kind of like dripping wax into an open wound.

Comment #289:
Comment by Ryan (2615) - 3/11/2006 @ 10:14 pm | [ Quote ]

If its still in the stomach and needs to exit right away, its gonna come out the mouth. its not until it has passed through the stomach into the intestine that it comes out the butt. The mastication (chewing) comes before the ingestion (swallowing)

Comment #290:
Comment by DEFCON Creator (1735) - 3/11/2006 @ 10:19 pm | [ Quote ]

Ryan, you are partially correct, however, you must consider the fact that even during the chewing process, liquids will seep down the esophageal tract and into the stomach. Being they aren’t solids, they are quickly metabolized and let thru the lower sphincter toll without paying (what a visual, LOL). The fluids are what is causing the problems, not the solid mash. Unless of course the burger he had was made from sweaty roadkill, in that case jam a couple blunt chopsticks down your throat and coat the ceiling.

Chris, not exactly.
Noxious is not a good term, for noxious implies poisonous, and capsaicin isn’t. Capsaicin merely triggers certain, and only certiain neuro-receptors, and not peripheral sensory neurons. The peripherals you are referring to are usually confined to touch and smell, for the most part. Capsaicin goes to the source, non-peripheral receptors, that cause a large release of blood and other lovely fluids to the supposed “affected” area, hence the warm feeling in the mouth when chomping on a hab.

Comment by chris k (2682) - 3/11/2006 @ 10:31 pm | [ Quote ]

Ok creator, what I posted was out of context. This is some information I just looked up. Let me know what you think.

“The sensory neurons are fired due to capsaicin’s effect of increasing membrane permeability to cations like calcium and sodium. More specifically, capsaicin binds to and activates the thinly myelinated A* primary sensory neurons and unmyelinated C-fibers. (Purkiss, 1997) The nociceptor neurons transmit information into the central nervous system (CNS) and release neuropeptides, including substance P. The release of substance P is responsible for the sensations of burning and irritating pain. (Presti, 1999) This chemical pathway is thus the explanation for the burning pain experienced when biting into a chili, a defensive mechanism “chemical war-fare armoury… designed to protect plants from being eaten.”

Chris, I’m aware that was a cut and paste, but that is what I just said in layman terms, so as to avoid the technical babble. Babble sucks, especially late on a Saturday, hence my attempts at a colorful and slightly humorous approach. No offense, but I have done a lot of research over the last 10 years I’ve been making my stuff.

Creator, there is speculation that indeed capsaicin may be toxic (in large quantities) Although it has yet to be proven.

” Among the complaints is capsaicin’s purported adverse effects on the peripheral nervous system, certain centers in the brain, and on enzyme and neuroprotein function in the brain. The “toxic factors” of capsaicin are also said to be harmful t the blood vessels and the heart. It must be noted, however, that these claims are hypotheses presented without data to support them as truths.”

Thanks for the support. Lets see, I go and do some research to try and understand all the technical (mumbo jumbo) and post a question to Mr Creator. Then in a response, I get that capsaicin is non toxic. What I found was an assumption, that it is believed to be toxic (in large quantities). Sure, it isnt proven, but there must be some merit to it if it is assumed. Just means further research is needed.

As for a cut and paste, hey what is a debate?

Don’t mean to be a tease here, but I can’t help it since we’re on the subject of looking for stuff :-) I found a few more ‘Blown Aways’ by Blair and another Smokin’ Hot Pot (hackeysack) I’d be willing to let go of. I made sure they weren’t signed this time ;-) Inventory is going slow- I’ve a lot of boxes to unpack and check from a couple of different moves from commercial kitchen to commercial kitchen. Nick will post it when I’m done… after some picking I’m sure :-P I’ve also just paid for the booths at Ft Worth and Houston & will be there with some stuff for any HSB’s that want to stop by.

“with some stuff for any HSB’s that want to stop by”

yeah I would have gone higher but i already have one in the triple digits. So I let it go. I see he has a 0 rating so I was not gonna risk any more $$$ into it because of that.

No fear Aaron :-) If I tell you something is likely to be hot though, believe me ;-)

Has anyone ever ordered anything from Chilliworld? I ordered some Windmill Sauce from them on December 2nd, and still haven’t received it. I have sent them several emails asking for status but get no response. I’m in Florida, and I know it’s coming from overseas, but still seems kind of a long time. I am most concerned by their lack of response to any of my emails. My next step is to have AMEX rescind the payment — don’t want to cause we really want the hot sauce, and haven’t been able to find it anywhere else. Sorry such a long post, just wondering if anyone else has had any dealings with this company — good or bad. Thanks everybody!
