September 8th, 9th & 10th seem so far away, but it’s about time to start thinking about travel plans. (or even deciding if you’re going).
I booked a flight this weekend, so that’s taken care of and I’ll be sharing a room with a fellow HSBer at the AmeriSuites Stockyards (smack dab in the middle of the action). If you want to save some money, it’s a good idea to split a room - plus it’s like Vegas, your room is just a place to sleep and change clothes.
Beyond travel plans, there are shirt plans in the works plus additional HSBer events that I’m trying to get kick started, so stay tuned for more info on that.
So who is planning on going this year?

I live in Austin which is 3 hours away, plus my family is in Dallas. So I will definitely be there. I look forward to meeting everyone. Let me know if you need info on stuff to do, places to go in DFW.
HEy Nick, let’s make some of those new HSBer events on the East Coast!

Defcon Day this weekend! I think I may have convinced the wife to come too…
I’m definitely at this one. The wife is supposedly coming as well (I need a designated driver - or else I will have to behave)
I would love to say I’m in - but first I’d have to convince some very important people to change my wedding date! Looks like we might have to run away to Vegas. At least it would save the folks some money ![]()
I really would like to go cause it sounds like a blast. Anyone want to split a room? ha Would I need to get there the night before the 8th? Just seeing if I need to take a vacation or not ![]()
Hey Nick….. Just round numbers, but what did airfare from NY cost? What about the room?
Nick Lindauer on 3/27/2006 at 7:48 am said:
I found a non-stop flight out of LGA for $250 (with all the taxes and such). I think the room is going to run $250 for 4 nights (since I’m spliting it).
Thanx Nick…. I’ll need to double or triple the numbers - as I need to bribe the wife! I guess I should start working on her now ![]()

Aaron - The 8ths is Trade Day, so you wouldn’t need to arrive until that night.
Even better! Now I just got to find someone to split a room with cause I am serious about this!
How did everyone book their stuff? Right now I am just looking at expedia and the like which I figured was easiest to get an estimate
Somebody would be welcome to round trip out of Indy and help me drive down & back if that works out better ![]()
Traade Day WILL be accessable if mt talks with Chile Pepper work out. It is the day when something special may be going on for bloggers/collectors. Don’t discount this day!!! More details as they become available…
I’ll have free stuff for any HSB’ers that stop in at my booth. And I don’t mean free bread though that will be there too
I’m having a HSB ID badge printed up that I think folks will enjoy.

Behave??? Perish the thought!
Huvason- I’d be happy to be your DD (designated driver, not designated drunk). I guess I’d better figure out a place to stay as well.

Keep us posted.
Hey guys, don’t forget to stop by the Danny cash booth as well. I think we might have something cool for you guys as well.
I have discussed making the trip with a friend of mine, but not sure yet if it will be possible for me. Looks to be a 19 hr. drive, I may make a road trip out of it. Gotta secure the time off first.
We are staying at the AmeriSuites in the Stockyards as well. Seemed to be the cheapeset and most centrally located option.
Hey Lee, what special thing do you guys have cooking?

I can’t say. (because I don’t know for sure) But we’ve been talking about something fun.
I wonder if C-Hip is planning a Friday night party since we all missed out in the ABQ?

By the time you guys get down there in the RV, that thing will be so rank that you might have to park at the sewage plant.
Ok guys I’m on a mission now. (from last nights thread) I just contacted chiliplants.com. Project X is a go.
I’m book in Amerisuites 7-11!!!!!!!

Jaime-can’t wait to try it. Miami to Ft. Worth is a VERY long drive. 1400 miles/ 20 hours in the car. I suggest flying.
It is the 2006 show, but the awards are for 2007.
Thanks-
I’ll be there again this year!
I love Zestfest. 1 hr. drive from Plano TX. Last year was kind of disappointing. Then again it did come on the heels of Katrina.
Getting my booth today! Loco Luna will be in the house! I’m looking forward to meeting everyone face to face!
Great Brian! See you there. I expect that show is getting close to being sold out.
Just booked our rooms for the AmeriSuites/Stockyard.
FYI for those of you looking for rooms they still have quite a few at $110 a night (AAA Discount)

I don’t know if I will be able to go unless I split a room. I would like to save money whereever I can. So if someone wants to go we can meet up cause I don’t want to miss out on this!
You got it Aaron! Happy to split a room. Get it at the stockyards where everyone else is & I’ll pay for half… or more. Email me if you want to follow up on this.
We have a fiery food show here (Toronto) in the summer. Sadly they market it as a great event but it is pretty bad. Maybe some HSB presence can help this out. Once I have more details on it I will post it to the HSB. There has to be some other Torontonians reading here!!!

So did everyone call amerisuites directly or book it anohter way?
Just booked the room online using Orbitz. Two queens, beds that is, not us
non-smoking. I’m quiet, bashful, and reserved. Arriving on the 6th & checking out on the 11th. Party on Garth! and John, and Danny, and C-hip and whoever else.
I’m all over this folks. I know I will be ready for a vacation by then! Now I need to get me a flight booked!
Just got off the phone with CaJohn- looks like I’llbe driving down there with C-hip dud (did I forget the ‘e’? Sorry
We’ll be hauling 5 different companies stuff down with us. Better not say the route for fear of being hijacked ![]()

Lee, the awards ceremony is Friday night. I wouldn’t expect you looosers to know that!
So how is everyone doing transportation? Renting cars or do we want to split cab fares? Maybe split a rental? You guys let me know the best way to do this cause I have never done it before. See you guys there! Just got to book my flight now ![]()
If I’m a betting man, I’m thinking cab fare. Unless you’ve contributed to the bail money and cell phone that I’ll be holding ![]()
CaJohn will be on in about another 20 minutes. I’m sure he’ll fire up about it with the CashCrew since I’m headed for bed. Sigh… firehouse again tomorrow.
There gonna be anything going on the night before the 8th? I gonna miss any parties if I come in the morning of the 8th?! Ha I just need to get the transportation planned out cause that is the biggest thing at the moment

Aaron- if it’s like most shows, and I expect it is, after the set up on Thursday most party pretty close to where they’re staying. A lot of deal making goes on that first night at the hotel bar ![]()
Hi Mr Bailie! Welcome aboard ![]()
So I’m guessing everyone is going but me? Time to butter up the wife…..

Jim, I thought you went to bed! Yes, everyone is wound up and needs to let off some steam on Thursday night. No one has their “game face” on at that time but we do manage to stay pretty close to wherever we’re calling home. That is why we are staying in the Stockyards, that’s where the party is! A lot more deals are actually closed at the bar than at the show. We are getting there the night of the 6th.
What the hell is going on with the blog???
Everything is changing each time to refresh. I swear I’m not on drugs ![]()
I think I’m going to rent a car,so anyone who want to hang with me you’re in
Tag, CaJohn- you’re it. I am outta here. You’ve some catching up to do ![]()

Mad, maybe you should rent one of those 15 passenger vans, charge collectable sauces or even cash for rides. It’s a hell of a walk for anyone except Jim C, he’d probably relish the thought of the walk (or run) .

Fresh Red Savina’s would go sweet in my Mango Habanero Sauce. I’m using Jim’s mash for some of it now.

Red Savina mash and Guiness maybe throw in some mollasses I bloody hungry (and thirsty)
CaJohns mash (sort of) Jim’s chiles. We don’t ferment the ground chiles, they are blended with vinegar and NO salt is added. It really makes a difference. Jim taught me how to make it and now supervises by phone.

I’d defo be in on it but that might be hard organizing 7 or 8 people from all over the shop. I’m up for ideas though. You know if there’s enough of us the hotel might shuttle us around.
Yeah I was just throwing ideas around myself. It would cool to go around as a group. I agree on the shuttle thing as well. If nothing else they can shuttle us to the Memorial Center.
But I would like to rent something to get a little more freedom from cab rides and stuff but it all depends on costs cause its not but 4 miles to the center so a cab ride cant be too bad

Hey $260.00 RTR from Newark
I wish my flights were a little cheaper but a nonstop from an Huntsville AL is 336. It’s do able but not as cheap as the guys near the real airports.
Whoever wants to get a van I will help out. Looks like the transportation will be covered one way or another

Don’t feel too bad about the flight cost - I’ll probably spend close to that on gas back and forth from Dallas!:)
Aaron could you go to Atlanta and then to Dallas? Let me check
Ahhh 361 looks the cheapest.
Not a problem my friend!
I normally have a scheduled appointment every Tuesday morning so the best time for me would be after 1:00pm (your time).

haha Yeah I have looked around a good bit. I could get it cheaper out of Birmingham but its only like 18 bucks cheaper and it will be at least 30 more minutes travel time as Huntsville is only 30 minutes from my place. I could add some stops in there but it makes my trip 9 hours versus 2 and only saves about 50 bucks. So I think my best option is the 336 nonstop from Huntsville. I am not complaining cause I have paid much more for a ticket before ![]()

Eman, Trust me! Do yourself a favor and get a seperate seat for baby. When we went to NM my wife was saying “JR can sit on my lap”. And everyone was telling me how I was waisting money getting JR his own seat. Well it was the best money I’ve spent in a long time! You will need the extra room and the baby will sleep a hell of alot better in the car seat. Plus you guys will be more confortable as well.
Hey I just put up my web site - looks like crap but I’m trying to switch over to my new email

From the look of things, 5+ months ahead of the show, the show is certainly going to be a “special” event. CaJohns will be doing “special” things by way of new releases, show central items and blogger editions. Jim C has a few things cooking for it, Dude will certainly have a few things up his sleve, THT has already stated they will have some thing special, Creator can be counted on as well, and who else will be joining the blog and offering special show things. Im sure our Host will gatner up a few of these to help you non-attendees attend vicariously through the Blogmaster. I’m sure with all the techies tehre will be some updates posted.
I just have to say I hope we can all survive the next 5 months as it looks like there is the possibility that this show will be like NO other fiery foods show in the history of “The Movement”. Anxiety will build as the anticipation of what’s to come whirls through the heads of blog members and some of them may succumb to wailing and gnashing their teeth. It may not be that far away, but this anticipation will drive us all close to the edge. I can only imagine the elation of the faithful when it’s “SHOWTIME”!!!

Creator see it’s not me
We might need a 4″ dia (you can get a few signatures on that one) 4′ long?
Don’t use 4″ in these parts- got 5″ and 3″. I’ll bring the 5″. It’s also not cotton so a Sharpie will work extremely well in signing names on it. Only problem is, it comes in 100′ rolls that weigh about 100 lbs! I’ll see if the shop can cut some down for me. They’ll likely salvage the couplings though.
If by chance I *can* get some in the next day or two, why doesn’t Deffy or Mad shoot me an address on where to send it? No promises.

Well folks, count me out for this excursion. I hate to say it, but oh well. There was no way we were going to get a booth, as our calendar wouldn’t allow it, but it seems this festivity falls on the same date we promised the Fireman we’d show up to their chili and BBQ show. Considering the Fire Dept. show is for a very good cause, there is no way in Hell I’m gonna call ‘em and tell ‘em I’m not coming. No biggie, perhaps next year.
Well that just ain’t right Defcon! Dang firefighters are always screwing things up
Thanks for doing their show though!

Aaron, either you are overestimating yourself, or underestimating me
. I would love to go, but I am putting the Firemen first on this one. I promised them last year we would be returning, and they have confirmed with me, more than once that we are returning. We were a great draw for them at their 1st annual Chili & BBQ cookoff last year and we donated a good chunk of what we made that day to them. I love those guys, they are a riot! I do see your humor, but so be it, once I commit to something, it flat out doesn’t change, must be the military upbringing. There will be more shows to go to, and I will be attending them, but for the Fire Guys, hey, it’s all about them that weekend.

Huv, it’s in Hillsborough, NJ. They got some great food. The Fire Dept. buys a dumptruck load of various meats (ribs, brisket, chicken, etc) and they hand it out to the BBQ guys (you should see some of these smokers, CRIPES!), the BBQ guys aren’t in it for the money, they just want the trophy. After they cook the meats, they give it back to the Fire Dept. to sell for charity. It’s a great show for a great cause.
Defcon- I’d like to send you a couple of items (not sauce) that will make you even more popular with the fire guys, if you’d like.
Oh I definitely see where you are coming from Creator. I would do the exact same thing you are doing if I were in your place. Those guys deserve way more than they get! Plus being a man of your word is very important as well. It will be a great event for you I am sure. Good thing you saw my humor cause it was all in pure jest ![]()

It brings me to the beginning of this thread - YES. Nick changed back the sorting of the thread so it’s oldest first. For some reason now it brings you to page 1, not to the page with the comment. Not sure if this is something Nick can fix - I know he is having issues with the “preview” now that the threads are paged.

I wonder if anyone would want to be sponsered by Danny Cash Hot Sauce….

CaJohn Is a jerr’s kids….well ya learn something new everyday.
Leave poor CaJohn alone at the moment! He’s on dial up in the hills of TN and can’t reply too well. He’s also with Tracy C and MSK & it’s doubtful he’ll be able to reply at all shortly ![]()
He did mention something about a Lee hot sauce. Was he talking about San Jaun Capistrano- because it mentioned something about ’swallows’ ![]()
I bet they don’t even want to respond, they are probably having a blast ![]()

LOL! I would be honored to be a Cajohn’s hot sauce, just leave out the ’swallows’ part, jerks.
He said they’ll try to get on later tonight. I bet it will be tough though on a 28k modem ![]()
Horrible Haggis has also mentioned that he will be there… I think. He’s a bit tough to understand, even on email. He’ll definitely be at Houston and is planning on riding back up with C-hip and me to attend the Open Fields. A more interesting character has never walked the earth ![]()
NICE! Haggis is rad! He buys you tequila shots while you try to figure out what the he11 he’s taking about! Remember 2 years ago when the cops busted him in the fountain? He’s a lot of fun….
He got busted for trying to go swimming in the hotel fountain. Resulted in everyone associated with the show being thrown out
Rad indeed.
You’re right about him being hard to understand!! Email isn’t any better. I felt bad when I was over there in Australia. I asked one of the locals for help in translating what he was saying and the reply was ‘bloody ell mate- we can’t understand the bugger either!’ I didn’t feel so bad then ![]()
It’s quite a little party he throws at his place. Calls it a ‘chilli festival’ but it looks like a bender to me ![]()

I am absolutly bringing a camera to ZestFest. This should be interesting! And I thought ABQ was crazy…
Should be a good time, indeed. Our buddy just got rid of that RV we were supposed to be using so we’ll be staying at the Amerisuites with all the cool people now.

What sort of priviliges would there be ??!!

Dude!! You guys lost the cruiser?? That blows. You’re not going to have that little red car packed with so much product that the front tires don’t touch again are you?? That would be a long ride to TX.
I smell trouble if you guys and Mike and I are actually at the same hotel for once… eeessshhh! My liver hurts just thinking about it ![]()
Lessee… the priviledges would include *very* long hours, answering the same insipid questions several hundred times, wearing a 10 lb weight on your head for 12 hours, hoping you make enough to cover gas money home… oh wait- those are MY priviledges
Yours are to wander around and have a good time ![]()

Ain’t dat the truth! With Dan’s Mohawk, all we hear ALL day long is “did the hot sauce do that to your hair?”

Yeah, he ditched it. Would’ve been a blast but he’s looking for another and we might get it after all. Had to reserve the Amerisuites just in case. Even with the RV we’re going to park it there and tell the front desk your room number. Trade shower use for rides to the show???lol

Set your standards highere dude
Trade day is set aside for the market buyers- versus the individual retail folks. It’s the day when we’re supposed to sell our stuff to all the big corporate buyers who will be there…. yeah right! Fiery Food Show in Abq has the same thing- pretty common to set a day aside for those folks so they don’t have to ‘battle’ for frontage space with teh thousands of folsk their just to eat and sample.
That’s supposed to be ‘higher’. Hero’s are ordinary folks doing extra-ordinary stuff. I’m just doing what you pay and train me to do
Ain’t nothing heroic about that!
Gosh- better bag it for the night. My typing is starting to look like Brets’ ![]()

Would you run into a burning building to save someone from burning alive despite your own safety? Knowing what little I do about you, I would be willing to say yes. I do not think I could say the same about me. ![]()

Visiting website now.
Just a reminder…item # 4466025256> on ebay - auction to raise money for Jim’s charity thing “step up for charity” - ends in less than two days. Current bid is $150.01. There is still time to own two collectable sauces and a fantastic collector’s case all in the name of charity. Its time to open those hearts and wallets, and STEP UP FOR CHARITY!
Damn thats awesome. I feel even better about what i did then ![]()
I can’t wait for Zestfest
You don’t get to meet heros everyday.
yeah, it’s signed by some weird dudes too
I went by a place last night in Nashville called the Flying Saucer. A whole lotta beer on tap! Over 70 on tap and over 100 more in bottle Come to find out they have one in Ft Worth about 3 to 4 miles from the convention center! I make a motion to visit one night! That way they have something we all like to drink
Me I recommend the Left Hand Milk Stout as weird as it sounds
Re: they have something we all like to drink
Oh- they’ve got Port (NOT Porter) there?! Maybe a good Cabernet?? Otherwise you’ll have to edit that “we all” part ![]()

Ha! True A good port never hurts though! They do have some very fine trappist ales that are aged much like some wines. I think they serve sweet tea though ![]()
On second look they do have wine at the Fort Worth location. So you can’t skip out on this meeting Jim
We will make it early so you can get to bed on time too lol

Ha!!!! I totally agree. I was at a nice place in Atlanta with a guy most anyone would consider a wine expert. He lives in California near Sonoma Valley around many wineries. I let him do all the picking and the port he picked knocked my socks off cause I know little about wine. I think it was a Graham’s Vintage Port, don’t know the year though. Very great
I was hoping someone may be able to give me more information about Zest Fest 2006. I know it is this coming weekend, but I am not having any luck finding where it is, how much to get in, and all the other information. If any of you could fill me in on the details or provide me the web page address I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks!
