Double Trouble Hot Sauce Makers

Alice Crowe and her twin sister, Alicia, are lawyers, not chefs. But one day they decided to work on a different kind of case — bottling and selling a hot sauce three generations old.

For as long as they could remember, their mother, Gwendolyn, had wanted to bottle their grandmother’s hot sauce, a tasty combination of fresh red peppers, mustard, garlic and a vinegar base, without fillers and dyes.

“We spend so much time as intellectual-property lawyers helping other people realize their dreams, we thought, why not help our mom with some of hers?” says Alice, 41 of Nyack.

The family began selling Emmaline’s Hot Sauce last month, and it’s now available at nine locations including four Rockland County stores, a store in Martha’s Vineyard (a favorite vacation spot of the family), and online at eBay and www.emmalineshotsauce.com.
