Review: Chili’s Fire Pit Dark Vader Hot Sauce

Ingredients: Chocolate Habaneros, Vinegar

I haven’t had too much exposure to chocolate habs and seeing this sauce I was relieved to find that this is in its most basic form. Habs and vinegar. I am not sure what the ratio is of habs to vinegar it is but at first glance it seems quite thick.

The actual graphics on the bottle can definitely use a touch up but it has a sense of charm in its attempt at humour. The jokes are there but they are pretty bad in a good way. The side of the bottle actually says that it is 300,000 Scoville Units. I always love when they list it.

I was expecting the colour to be a little darker. In fact it looked more like a brown shade in the bottle as opposed to when it was on the plate when it took on a much more red appearance.

Vietnamese food was going to be the victim today. The dish was devoid of any sauces so I was able to get a pretty good feel for how this sauce stood on its own. The heat hits fast. Real fast. But it disappears quite quickly. Faster than most sauces I have tried. For a non-extract sauce you are getting quite a wallop here but it definitely won’t initial you properly into the realm upper hots. The actual taste is fresh unadulterated habanero which was nice to see as the vinegar didn’t really intrude.

Out side of CaJohn’s Select Puree’s this is a pretty notable entry for sauce so basic. You are getting great flavour and great heat. Its basic form makes it very versatile in the kitchen.
