Review: Richard’s Hot Sauce

Winner 2007 Fiery Food Challenge

Ingredients: Vinegar, fresh red bell and habanero peppers, garlic, salt, sugar and spices.
Contains no MSG.

This one is well deserving of the 2007 Fiery Food Challenge Award. In fact there isn’t a sauce I have had in quite some time that I can almost put in the same category as Blair’s Original Death. But before you proclaim that those are fighting words, notice that it is almost there”¦”¦

Unfortunately this sauce has the same problem as most. Even though it has the shiny 2007 Award winning sticker, it is still pretty unassuming on a shelf. And if there is a batch out there that hasn’t acquired the sticker”¦..well that is too bad. There will be a lot of people passing up a great sauce here.

The sauce itself looks incredible. It is bright, thick, and has substance to it. It smells fresh and vibrant with a touch of smoke that lends to some weight behind the sauce.

Chicken nuggets and crinkle fries were the lucky recipients of this sauce. I didn’t even have to use ketchup for the fries. The picture shows one good dollop, but by the end of the meal I managed to go through a third of the bottle. It contained some medium heat that would but a bead on the uninitiated but a veteran can go through this in a second without even noticing it.

Bottom line is that this is an extremely flavourful medium hot sauce that has all the right stuff going for it. Give this one a go if you see it at your local hot shop!
