Hot Sauce on Ice Cream

Sugar Fire Hot Sauce on Ice Cream

Some of you may recall my hot sauce infused pancakes – which were a success in my book. After reading that review, the TorchBearer guys wanted me to try the sauce out again and they suggested making a pumpkin pie with it or ice cream. Well, I don’t have the time to make a pumpkin pie these days, so ice cream it was.TorchBearer SugarFire Sauce

So there you have it, TorchBearer’s SugarFire and Ben & Jerry’s Plain Vanilla Ice Cream. As I’ve said before, SugarFire is not so much as a [tag]hot sauce[/tag] but a spicy [tag]dessert sauce[/tag] (another SAS: specific application sauce). The pumpkin flavor really lent itself to the ice cream. Honestly, there was no heat during the first 3-4 bites then I began to notice that the inside of my lips were pleasantly tingling. Not burning, but just singed enough to notice. That rocked. Not enough heat to ruin my ice cream, but enough for my lips and tastebuds to feel it. If you haven’t tried this sauce on ice cream, give it a whirl. It’s a true dessert (SAS) sauce that should only be used in the context of dessert; otherwise you won’t be able to appreciate the nuances of the flavor.

A few years ago I met with the corporate chef from Tobasco (Toabasco, I know, but work with for a minute) he had me try Vanilla ice cream mixed with Tobasco and Hot Damn (cinnimon liquour). It was actually really good. Also a “Spiced Candy Apple”, Hard cider. Hot Damn, and few drops of well.. your favorite Lousiana stlye hot sauce.

This is something I would never think of trying – but it looks pretty good! Maybe I’ll have to give it a shot.

I have also heard quite a bit about Toad Sweat dessert sauces, has anyone tried those as well?

    Good idea Nick.
A few years back I had habanero sorbet. Wow was that pretty cool. A hot and cold sensation at the same time.

I love ice cream and hot sauce, provided the sauce doesn’t have much vinegar. The first time I tried it, I gave a go with tabasco and vanilla and I thought it was awful. I attributeed that to the viegar content of the tabasco.

Now, I love torchbearer’s #4 on ice cream, the carrot flavor is great. I also love peppermaster;s hurricane mash on ice cream, and palmetto pepper potions larynx lava is great, the ginger goes well with the vanilla.

The Chocolate Orange toad Sweat is great. I put it on anything sweet that needs some kick. But the Toad Sweat isn’t too hot, just a little tingle. I haven’t tried their other flavors… Yet 🙂

I have tried the #11 on some ice cream. Yesterday infact. I thought it was quite good. I didn’t really get much heat till it got to the back of my throat. It isn’t much heat at that but you can tell it’s there. Fruity flavor. I will definitely be having some more!

Hot sauce on ice cream!!!! Interesting concept. I had read of a couple of companies trying to make ice creams with chili’s and other flavorings. I think the idea of hot tasting sweet desserts is only now being broached. Last year at the FFS there were a lot of companies creating chili cocoas and chili flavored candies. I agree with Nick, something that is not overpowering but still warms the mouth is a great idea, Not to mention that chili’s do enhance the flavor of chocolate.

You might try and order some from the torchbearer site. That is what I did and I was happy with the service. But they were running a half off sell so I loaded up 🙂

mmm…I always like new ways to spice up dishes. I’d be interested to try this with chocolate as well.

There are several chile/dessert combinations that work well. Try a pecan pie with chipotle sprinkled over the top of it for an interesting twist. A little hab dust on fudge brownies is a common variation also. At Open Fields, one of the more popular items is habanero/peach ice cream.

It’s absolutely dependant upon the sauce Matt & eman. As Nick says, it takes a SAS (specific application sauce) to do the trick. Toad Sweat is a good one. Not tried the Torchbearer.

I’ve several folks on the ChileHeads list who absolutely swear by my apple smoked Savina(R) in vanilla milkshakes!

Has anyone thought about putting buffalo wings in Ice Cream? Why should two great things not go well together…vanilla ice cream seems like a much better side than ranch dressing.

Raging Passion (no longer made) was the first hot sauce I’ve tried on ice cream, it was pomegranate and habanero, yummy!
