Yeah, there was a time that I did get excited about Blair’s stuff. Never tried to hide or deny it. I still appreciate the bottles that I have, and especially the cutting room floor set. That was something I won, not something I bought so it actually means something to me. I’m just sentimental like that (accent on “mental”). But I have stuck to my word about not buying any more Blair’s. Yeah yeah, I’ve heard it a hundred times “cool, that just means there’s more for the rest of us”. Have at it gentalmen. If I’m going to be a sheep, there’s a hand full of other manufacturers I’d much rather be led by.

I’m not going to criticize Blair’s creativity, and I actually think the bottles were very cool looking. My personal deal, and by no means am I saying that anyone has to agree with me, is that when a manufacturer creates a niche for collectables, then makes it impossible for everyone to have a complete set, and uses the fact that you can sell it for twice as much on ebay as a selling tactic (this is what was said to me by Blair’s people at ZF), I have no respect for that. Not a single one of the manufacturers that I collect has EVER pushed a bottle on me, tried to get me to buy it by telling me that I could sell it for more on ebay, or made a set that that had unequal number of pieces making it impossible for most that buys one to have them all. It happened first with the Firecracker 500, now the T-99 (99 T-99’s in 4 colors, 299 Halloween 06, and 299 Holiday 06. Need all to complete some message, but a maximum of only 99 peopla would be able to complete, and with 4 colors of only T-99’s, only a few people will be able to have all 4). And to make it so that a collector has to spend $600 to get a set of bottles all at once, that’s ridiculous… I say again, he caters to those that have money. Could I have bought 4? Yes. Did I? No. I got a lot of really cool stuff with that $600, and heck of a lot more.

I think there are valid points on both sides here. I myself had planned on purchasing the Halloween and holiday Reserves this year, but was gonna pass on the T-99. Now that the Halloween and Holidays are tied into the T-99, I don’t fel that they will retain their individual uniqueness that they had in the past. Seems like it is and will be viewed as part of a “set”. i always liked the two because they were unique in their own right away from the AM line or anything else released by Blair. My Favorite being the Halloween reserves, even though the value isn’t as high as the Holiday. Me not being able to have the chance for the “set” makes them less desirable to me now than in the past. I will not fault anyone with more money than me for pursueing the set, but for me, it ain’t gonna happen. I’m gonna put my money toward mt NM fund. I think it would be best spent there than on an incomplete collectible. But that’s just me. Ryan, Blane, you guys both make valid points, and I agree with both of you. Mr. S, keep ’em straight. 🙂

Blane, I understand what you’re saying, but I also believe you have taken my words in the wrond context and even failed to take note of some things. I am by no means trying to start a comment war with you, but lets get the record straight. First, I don’t have any “anger” towards Blair. We all have picked people to follow. Someone puts out a collectable limited edition bottle, all of us are all over it. All I said was that there are a handfull of other manufacturers I would rather follow. I said nothing against people selling stuff on ebay today…so where did your rant on that come from? The one thing I DID bring up regarding ebay was the fact that Blair’s salespeople used that to try and get me to purchase a bottle…two actually. New here and to the hotsauce biz ( relative to Blair and Cajohn, it was awesome to see someone reselling my sauces) I tend to shy from controversial subjects, sit back and learn, but, again, a word for Cajohn, Jim, myself, Brian Loco, non of us have ever attached anything but a price tag, fair and square, same price, same product, no variables for everyone. When you buy it, you know you are getting the SAME as everybody else and at the same price, 1st come 1st serve.
I said it now Im going to mean it, no more # auctions for me, It will be same for everybody in the future, a buy it now, same price for all. Let the market dictate value, not the wallet size. I do reserve the righ t withhold #1’s for JimC auctions, last # for myself. Not me, that was a true story! i had a bad spill earlier that split my helmet in half, nearly broke my shoulder, and gave me a slight concussion! that bear jumping up on the trail right in front of me was NOT a welcome sight! And the tire did go right up there! Really a bad day, all the way around!

It has tha whole story i wrote up to submit to them telling them the whole story. That crash was pretty bad. I ws lucky. Nearly 40 MPH and landed on my head. kinda explains a few things doesn’t it! 😉

The move was the most stressful thing I have ever had to endure in my 35 years of living. It was absolutely brutal. I won’t go into details, but it was a painful experience. Put it this way, I’ve had kidney stones before, and they were a cake walk in comparison to the mental anguish one must suffer when moving to another province.
We are planning on opening our little “boutique of heat” on October 2nd, a little later than we had hope but I needed a break after the move.
We’re just cutting through some red tape with the government right now, but we’ll be up and running on the 2nd fer sure.
Mrs. Uncle Big is good. My little ray of sunshine. She’s keeping me balanced as usual.
Thanks for asking. Hope you and Mr. R are well.

I totally understand about the mental anguish of moving, we have a psycho neighbor we have to deal with and we are trying to figure out if staying here is a sane idea. The MandyCane is doing great!
She started her new teaching job this fall at a high school and loves it so far. She’s teaching 11th grade English and doing yearbook. Lots of work, but the kids are great she says. Roughly 2200 in the school, suburban west side is the only issue as she has a 30-44 minute drive each way depending on traffic for only 16 miles of travel.
She hates the Canes losing even more than I think. Puts me into a funk for sometime, but I’m getting over it. lol Just waiting on the coach to be fired, then I’ll be all smiles. We shall rise again!

It’s all about trends you see in the program. I don’t know how well you follow them, if at all, but we’ve been slogging downward ever since he took over.
The team he took over had 21 1st round draft picks on it. That’s the most any single team has ever had by far.
Even in ’02, the year we lost the Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl, the signs were there that something was missing. We played down to our competition a good deal of the time. We’d take a half off, like we did against Rutgers and would be trailing even going into the second half. They’d turn it on in the end, but what if they hadn’t?
Recruiting under the guy has been horrible as well. We haven’t landed a QB in two years. Both the guys we had coming decommited, one heading to PSU, the other to play baseball. We’ve recruited only two WR’s in four years. We started out this year with only four scholarship WR’s. Ridiculous I say, the guy cannot do anything right.
We keep dropping in the polls as does our record. Basically five final ranking positions at the end of each year since he’s been here. Our offense was 67ish last year. It’s been going downhill like the polls since he took over. Players aren’t getting better here like they used to.
Quite simply, there’s just a complete and total lack of attention to detail with the guy. There’s no fire from him or accountability. If we were improving in areas instead of getting steadily worse at every position, maybe he’d have a leg to stand on. He doesn’t at this point. Heck, anymore….his teams don’t even have the fundamentals down.
Teams tend to get better as the season goes on, that doesn’t happen here, we get worse. Adjustments, we don’t make them for the second half, instead we manage to score only three points in our last four losses in the second quarter. We’ve also had so many close calls over his tenure it isn’t even fun. If not for pathetic coaching under Zook, we would’ve lost to the Gators a couple years back after we were trailing them by 31 points three minutes into the third quarter. West Virginia would’ve beaten us if not for a miracle of a catch by Winslow.
Final thing, what is so envious about our position right now that others would kill to be in our position? If you’re talking about having that U on the helmet, it doesn’t matter much right now. Teams don’t respect or fear us anymore. We’re just a shadow of our former selves. We were a Ferarri, now we’re a Camry.
We’ll get the ship back on track when we get a coach who’ll come in and light some fires under peoples rears. The ruining of the program is soon at an end. It’s going to cost Coker and his AD Dee their job. Bout damn time.

A Very Bad Thing Happened In Houston…
Monday morning at 12:24 AM in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Select, Dude’s window was smashed and his truck/trailer was stolen. Inside of the trailer was what was left after the show from both Old Pueblo Distributing’s and CaJohns booths. The truck/trailer was recovered sometime Monday, but the ENTIRE contents of the trailer were gone. Included in the loss were approximately 24 Caveat Emptors and Mini Light You Up bottles. So those of you in the Houston area, if you find a good deal on a Caveat Emptor, Chip & I would love to know of the person you get it from. This was caught on video, but we are not too hopeful of this helping us catch the perps. You Texas chileheads are our best shot.
The CEs were only a part of what was stolen. All of the display units and inventory from both companies are “in the wind”. PBR barrel racks, slanted sauce display boards, many, many bottles of “State specific” sauces (Texas Road Kill, Oklahoma Rt. 66 etc) Arizona Pickles brand sauces, even some Bret’s Eat S%^* and Howl at the Moon. Fatalii Fire, Black Mamba (with bags & snakes, we never have wholesaled this packaging to anyone) Talon, Frostbite, the entire remaining inventory of Houston, We Have a Problem!, Ignite, Island Jewel and many many more.
It sucks this happened, and Chip (Dude) is still stuck in Houston waiting to get his truck road worthy for the trip back to Columbus. If anyone in Texas sees any of this stuff at Flea Markets, Swap Meets etc., please let me or Chip know about it.
There are many less of the Caveat Emptors available now, I am honoring all the promises I made before ZestFest and you guys will get first dibs, we will get those of you who have sent Nick emails next in the order they were sent.

What a selfish act of cowardness, not much lower form of humanity then a thief! John, we are sorry to hear of your loss, though as said above, they’re only possessions. You have to feel somewhat blessed as to be safe and healthy and no one was hurt- though some feelings my be bruised! I can speak from experience as having a vehicle stolen and an apartment robbed, it’s a helpless feeling followed by a whole lot of anger. Hang in there, it may not seem like it but things have a way of working out and many good things can happen as a result of this negative incident. It’s almost for sure that a “fire sale” of some sort will happen with the CaJohn’s, it’s just a matter of time untill it gets noticed. The only way this may go undetected is if this was a ” targeted” heist, and the theif knew what he was stealing.

I think if we all pitch in, we may be able to afford Sonyo, international Madam of Mystery, hit Woman, and an expert at such activities. Nothing gets by her, she will hunt and she will find. She is an Expert in the HotSauce Underground with many connections. I hear she has a midget called Mini Sonyo that goes undercover with Vinnie Parco, private eye.

I would agree with you here ryan…too many “collectibles” showing up recently diminishes the value, or importance of owning all these bottles – not to mention the expense it would take to own them all.

A few days later I checked Blair’s site and it said the FC500 was sold out. A week later they were available for $200. I ordered another one and proceded to get a clone of the first one some 400 numbers apart and a encore. Also when I ordered the second one I had a promotion code to get a free 3am but instead I got a mousepad??? As far as the T-99 I think it should have been 1 (one) per person and sell the rest on line to the ones that couldn’t make Zest Fest. I also have to question the fact that Blair was the only one not actually handing you the product you paid for-did any other vendors do this??
Me personally-collecting use to be fun but now it is getting stupid. Is a Caldera the Dom Perignon of hot sauce-I’ll never know.
