Chef dies after eating ‘superhot’ chilli for bet

Source: Telegraph.co.uk
An amateur chef died the day after eating a “superhot” chilli in a bet with his friend over who could make the hottest dish, an inquest heard.

Andrew Lee, 33, suffered heart failure the morning after he ate the chilli.

Toxicology tests are now being carried out to see if the fork lift truck driver suffered a fatal reaction to the dish or whether anything else contributed to his death.

Mr Lee, of Edlington, Doncaster was apparently in perfect health and had just passed a medical at work, the opening of the Doncaster hearing was told.

Cooking was one of his main interests and he went to his girlfriend Samantha Bailey’s house to make a chilli.

His father John Lee told the inquest: “He had a bet with Samantha’s brother who could make the hottest chilli then went back to her house to stay.”

Mother-of-four Miss Bailey called the emergency services to her home nine days ago.

Police officers were called to the house after receiving reports of a man suffering a cardiac arrest and Mr Lee was found lying on the floor.

Paramedics failed to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A full post-mortem examination is underway and further inquiries are being carried out.

Deputy Doncaster coroner Fred Curtis granted a burial order and adjourned the inquest for further evidence.

A very sad story, I don’t beleive it can be soley attributed to the hot sauce.

Skeptical. I’d say his heart already had some hidden issues.

Doesn’t matter. Chili peppers with a scoville rating above 1000 are now the target of legislation to be banned. Think of the children after all.

He died of anaphylaxis due to a food allergy, NOT from eating something ‘too hot’. As I ranted elsewhere, this is just typical media ignorance. If he had a food allergy (some of the stories talk about him suffering from extreme itching after eating it- a dead give away to anaphylactic shock) it was irrelevant the heat level of the chiles. It just makes more sensational press to put it out this way. “Man dies of suspected food allergy”, though a million times more accurate, doesn’t sell papers or grab attention some some bogus headline like “too hot chiles kill a man”.

This is from Dr. Christopher’s writings, one of the most renowned herbalists and holistic doctors of this country:

    FOOD FOR THE HEART
Used as a heart attack preventative, along with the Mucusless Diet and a healthful life-style, Cayenne pepper can do wonders in toning and rebuilding the heart and keeping it in top condition. Cayenne is one of the richest and most stable sources of Vitamin E, which is known to be a heart builder.
This is one of the fastest acting aids we could ever give for the heart because it feeds that heart immediately. Most hearts are suffering from malnutrition because of processed food we are eating, but here it gets a good powerful dose of real food.
The warm tea is faster working than tablets, capsules, cold tea, because the warm tea opens up the cell structure–makes it expand and accept the cayenne that much faster, and it goes directly to the heart, through the artery system, and feeds it with powerful food.

    HOW TO TAKE CAYENNE DAILY
Start by taking ΒΌ teaspoon of this herb three times a day. Gradually work up to 1 teaspoon three times a day. Stir the cayenne in 4-6 ounces of distilled water. Drink this, and then chase it with more distilled water. To assure that you get good quality cayenne, we recommend that you buy it at a health food store.

And now my comment: The irony of this reporting, that the guy died of heart failure from too much chilli is that, in fact, cayenne pepper save people exactly from that, from heart attacks and basically it strengthen the heart. BUT, the cayenne MUST be of pure quality, without fillers, preservatives and other harmful chemicals. Buy only the best! What goes into your body is the most important for your health.
    Best wishes,
    Georgeta

According to Dr. Richard Schulze (sudent of Dr. Christopher) hot peppers can stop a heartattack or a stroke in minutes. He has also found that hot peppers can stop severe bleeding in seconds by actually pouring the powder directly on the wound, and though you would think it would sting a lot, it doesn’t. He has discovered many other ways that hot peppers can heal. They are superb for improving circulation and even cleaning out veins and arteries from fatty buildup and cholesterol, and they are excellent for the heart too.

Dr. Schulze says that you need to get a hot pepper with a minimum of 90,000 HU (heat units), but most of his tinctures include peppers with 180,000 HU – 250,000+ HU. If you are taking the peppers daily you will be surprised how quickly your body will get used to the heat. Every few weeks you can use a hotter pepper, so in a few months you can consume very hot peppers without any significant discomfort.

I believe that the purpose of this story getting this kind of coverage is to make people fear hot peppers and other herbs and supplements so you will go along with the regulation of these gems of alternative medicine. The medical establishment wants a monopoly on health care, and alternative medicine continues to grow and take an ever greater cut of the profits from pharmaceutical companies. They want to eliminate their competition, but they’ll try to convince you it’s for your ‘protection’. Look up Codex Alimentarius, the United Nations plan to control the trade of all food, herbs, vitamins and other supplements worldwide. The true agenda of this program is to have complete control over the food supply and of alternative medicine.
