Do you remember your first time? Cause I do, distinctly. I was at a friend’s house. Things were quiet some cheese was procured from the fridge and…
…a bottle of Dave’s was taken out of the fridge. Prior to this experience I’ve had no experience with anything hotter than Tabasco, I was a heat newb in every sense of the word. I didn’t know who Dave was or what his business was in making a sauce but I decided I would try it anyways. There has always been a fair amount of hot sauce at my buddy Dan’s house Ring of Fire, some crazy cat hot sauce, dried peppers but in my Ming no sauce could ever challenge me. I had heard of habaneros but really what were the chances of me getting any, habaneros to be were like the diamonds of the Sierra Leone, they were almost myth. Anyways with reckless regard I doused 6 cheese blocks with about 3 tablespoons of Dave’s Original Insanity. The first bite 2 blocks of cheese were good and weren’t hot at all, I polished off 2 more…
…that’s when I was thrown into some bizarre new realm of heat. It was something I had not even had time to contemplate. Had I been offered a face-full of flamethrower goo I would have eagerly accepted. I don’t think any of my friends had expected the heat that was Dave’s Original Insanity either. Soon almost all of us were either grasping our throats or blinking profusely because in the chaos many of us got the Dave’s in our eyes. Remember the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan? That was occurred that day, except in a kitchen…I think the dog was nearby. I of course did what I still do to this day when faced with a mind-bending amount of extreme heat: run around like a chicken san’s cerebellum and cry and curse a blue streak.
And that’s how I started my addiction to the hottest sauces in the world.
I was curious to know about yours. We have like what…a billion kabajillion boasts now and I kinda know some of you but I really don’t KNOW you. So put down your first experiences in that nice little comment box and tell the rest of us what and when you got hooked.

That’s nice! My frist experience with hot sauce was I bought a Da’ Bomb Beyond Insanity hot sauce from Le Gourmet Chef. I had it plain with no cheese or nothing, straight off my finger. This was the first time i’ve tried anything hotter than Tabasco, and I have to tell you, it was something new. I was thinking that this had to be pretty dumb, but after the pain eased it opended up a new world, a world of hot sauce. And that is where I am today, collecting hot sauce. I have pictures of my collection in Collectors Corner if you want to look.
I used to think Tabasco was hot. I used to think the more I added to a dish the hotter it would be. Instead it just got covered in more sauce. Since I was a kid I was dousing my food in chili flakes and the like (no one else in my family likes anything heat related). I thought that was as hot as things got and I would have to deal with that. Till one day a friend brought me a bottle of Blair’s Original After Death from New Orleans. Today I can drink it straight from the bottle and don’t notice the heat, but back then it it was a new realm. From that day on I went on a hot sauce bender that hasn’t ended since.
I was thinking about this the other day. My first recollection of encountering spicy sauce was (don’t laugh too hard) Taco Bell hot sauce. Yes, you read that correctly.
I remember clearly living in El Paso Texas and sneaking off to the back yard to drink the sauce packets straight after coming home from a fast food meal out with the family. Granted, Taco Bell sauce is not that spicy, but this was the year before I started kindergarten (like 1966 or 67?). My dad was military and he went to Vietnam the year I started kindergarten and we moved from El Paso to Mineola (East Texas) where my grandparents lived.
I’m not too fond of Taco Bell these days, but maybe, just maybe they started me on the path of chile love that I am still on today! Thank you Taco Bell!
Ahhhh… I remember it well. Went to a whole foods store and decided to check out the spice aisle. Low and behold, I stumbled upon shelves and shelves of sauce. I spent about 45 minutes looking it over, making notes in my blackberry on what manufactures were there, not knowing what to get. So, I left – on to do my research. That’s when I learned about Blair! The hottest sauce they had at the time was Mega Death – so the next day I went back during my lunch hour and got my first SKULL. I rushed back to work, into the kitchen, grab a spoon, opened the bottle, poured it on (what the hell is 550,000 scovilles anyway?), and proceeded to eat the spoonful.
Talk about capsaicin high! I almost passed – literally. Had to sit down for a couple of minutes – I was hooked. Still get my Blair’s sauces there – as well as my fresh Habaneros.
Yeah there’s nothing like the feeling and rush you get from eating something hot. I got hooked on bbq-ing Walkerswood Hot & Spicy Jamaican Jerk Seasoning on chicken over the summer. It’s made with scotch bonnets and at the time I thought it was really hot (it’s much nicer on a bbq than in a pan – i don’t know why). I then looked around and found Blair’s products, the first of which I tried was jersey death followed by 3am
Green El Yucateco 1 drop per meal, that stuff was insane hot or i was insane n00b? Eitherway now I can put half bottle of it on a burrito and be happy. I also started with these yucatan green peppers not really sure what they are but they hold thier own in the 10-20k scoville range, and those were good to give you a pickmeup in the spice catagory.
Anyone have an idea of what the Scoville range is on Sudden death
[Comment ID #18320 Quote]
50000
Are you f’in kidding me THAT low?
So when I was almost dying eating that burger sunday night That was IT.
Man I suck No wonder why the 16mil makes some people react funny. Like losing control of their bodily functions ๐
Trying to find my source – but it’s on my list @ 50K
I’m pretty sure. My Blair’s list shows Mega Death @ 550K, Possible Side effects at 283K and Sudden Death at 50K. I’m still trying to find my actauly web source. I’ll find and post!
need to add.. I wish had had my source. I hate just throwing a number out there, but I definitely got it from somewhere.
[Comment ID #18329 Quote]
I am pretty sure Sudden Death is more than 50000 – after all that is what After Death is rated at.
If sudden death is only 50K, then 3am can’t be as hot as it is calimed to be. I use both on a regular basis and yes, 3am is hotter, but 50K just seems too low.
[Comment ID #18332 Quote]
I agree – I would put Sudden death in 75-90K range.
Hey Chris, whle playing around last night I discovered that if you put the thingies in to make the emoticons, you can press preview and see if they work without posting a bunch of garbled stuff. Don’t know if anyone else has recomended this, but thought I would throw it out there.
[Comment ID #18333 Quote]
I thought it was a bit low as well. 75-90k is probably a better number. I wish I had my darn source! After death is 50K on SNS so I agree, and retract.
pmac… still not all that hot ๐
According to an old post on HSB:
“youโll notice that Sudden Death isnโt listed. Thatโs because it has not been tested for an accurate scoville rating.”
Sudden Death has not been officially tested for a scoville rating.

I remember my first heat explosion. My wife picked up a bottle of Black Widow on a trip to San Fransisco and brought it home. We and another couple made tacos and Bob and I doused our tacos with the Widow Sauce. Not knowing any better we both took great big bites and then spent the rest of the evening trying to put out the fire. That was before I trained my mouth to absorb higher an higher degrees of heat. These days, I try alittle bit on the side of my hand before dousing anything with a sauce I am not familiar with.

I think there are some instructions here. “arise from your cyber-connected world” get up and away from your PC. “enjoy the merriment of St. Patrick” go have a good time its St Patricks day. “for it it is he who enjoys the fruit of life that prospers from its well-givings” Dont waste time sitting around here, for the e-mail will not come until after the “merriment of St. Patrick”

sorry Creator, had to say it…
My first experience with real hot stuff was with Dave’s Insanity sauce. I wasn’t a big fire eater but liked some of my food spicy. My “encounter” with Dave’s was, how shall we say, PAINFUL!!! The initial bite wasn’t so bad… yeah, you guessed it. I went in for more. I have never had anything this heinous. It got all over my lips and they were chapped to start with. I honestly thought I would never be able to kiss a woman or taste the subtleties of a good wine again. The pain was so bad, to me at least, that I thought my mouth had to be bleeding. Not to mention the tears rolling from my tear ducts MUST have been tears of blood. It took me some time before I went back to “fiery foods”. I stopped for a while in fear of that pain. It wasn’t until I had some Green Tabasco on a pizza one night that I started to get the itch for fiery foods. Personally I love the taste of the green Tabasco. I decided that I would ramp up the heat levels over periods of time. Once I would get used to a certain heat level I would progress to the next. Now I don’t mind Dave’s so much. I had no idea you could build up a tolerance for that type of pain.
Call me a Capsaicin Masochist
Ahhhh Chris, have you not learned to steer clear of vilifying The Creator on the eve or evening of ZERO hour? Perhaps not, hmmmm, I must cast these nefarious ideas from my psyche, for I wish not to cast my wrath upon an individual who is seeking only to enhance his assemblage of culinary rarities. My comment that I drank a “fifth” was pure comedic irony in regards to claiming “the fifth”. We like to call it a “play on words”. But… with that being said.. I have had more than three drinks and less than ten.
Hey Chris I think Cody is toying with you! lol
[Comment ID #18570 Quote]
Dan, no need to ‘splain yourself…consider the company. haha
[Comment ID #18571 Quote]
Maybe… Maybe not.
๐
[Comment ID #18572 Quote]
HAH I suppose you’re right!
Am I right in thinking that most of you, if not some, (hot sauce blog members) will be at the ZestFest Show? I have met some but would welcome the opportunity to more people.
[Comment ID #18569 Quote]
Cody, my son..let us guide you from the darknees to the light…
Creator may have chosen you to spread his message, however you are unable to see through all the smoke (and cut fur). Please I beg you…listen to the other voices on the HSB ๐
[Comment ID #18575 Quote]
It’s on my wish list..but not sure..I need a sponsor! Any takers?
[Comment ID #18577 Quote]
Hey Tracy, after you have a few more beers, you can go online and book the trip. While you are at it, buy my tickets.. ๐ and huvasons too!
[Comment ID #18577 Quote]
We’ve already “hired” Chris to come work for us.
And mine! ๐
You guys make me almost want to stay up tonight to see if he actually does post it up albeit the chances seem pretty slim to me!!
[Comment ID #18576 Quote]
I thought he would of told you.
Hey Dan, were you in NM? Sorry if you were and I don’t remember. We met so many great people but I’m not sure of who everyone was exactly. Like you, I am welcoming meeting as many people as possible in Texas.
[Comment ID #18579 Quote]
Well that’s great! He can pay for my room
[Comment ID #18584 Quote]
Maybe you could carry my bag. What do you think Kristi?
[Comment ID #18583 Quote]
In other words, I met so many dull and boring people in NM, I can’t seem to remember them all.
Dan, she is just trying to be nice!
Oh yea, before I forget, HOT SAUCE!! Gotta have it!!
Do you think we should get Tracy his own bag? Maybe you would be more comfortable doing it with a partner in crime?
[Comment ID #18583 Quote]
Yup.. I was there! Had real good time too. I met you and your two cohorts. We were the sponsors of the Scovie Awards. I’ve talked to Lisa about printing your labels but you guys were in a crunch and it just didn’t work out. I will see you in Ft Worth!!
[Comment ID #18582 Quote]
I see Mr Creator has really altered the chemical composition of your brain my dear lad. This is going to be more difficult than we originally thought. We need to move you back to the light before the darkness casts its shadow onto you for eternity. See there are many sauces for which you choose to add to your collection and you need not hover in the darkness to obtain them.
[Comment ID #18586 Quote]
HAHA I thought the same thing Tracy…
ohh HOT SAUCE RULES!!
[Comment ID #18587 Quote]
Not sure if I want Tracy riding on my coat-tails. ๐
Hot Sauce
Is Nick going to check to see how many times Hot Sauce was used tonight?
Hello all, what’s the good word?
Well I am nice, this is true. MSK ,Danny Cash, Cajohn, Nick and a couple dozen more, it was far from dull and boring. It was quite a group of people to meet our first show out. It was great. You know you want to go to Zest Fest.
[Comment ID #18591 Quote]
Ouch!!
[Comment ID #18589 Quote]
???… It’s Friday night. Can you explain what information you would like?
[Comment ID #18593 Quote]
Well eric, go back about 200 comments…
[Comment ID #18595 Quote]
Sorry my friend…said in good fun
Ok, maybe you can be my partner in crime…if you buy the plane tickets ๐
Sorry Tracy, the Dr. has spoken. You should still go though.
Hey Dan, I need to talk to you about some private lables. Do you have a business p#?
[Comment ID #18593 Quote]
eman. 1 quick question…
How did the littles ones do with their first night together?
did they keep you up…lol
I see you all have been quite busy today. Anything outstandng?
[Comment ID #18596 Quote]
We do not need information, we only provide answers.
Mr. Eman are you going to get a Defcon 0 batch #2?
[Comment ID #18599 Quote]
Maybe we should re-evaluate this case…do we need a 2nd opinion on this Kristi?
OK
[Comment ID #18602 Quote]
It took a while, I had to put them in time out for a 15 min but all is good now.
[Comment ID #18605 Quote]
Yep!! Waiting for an email
How about you?
[Comment ID #18608 Quote]
Good, glad to see they may finally be getting along…
[Comment ID #18603 Quote]
No not really…just a few computer nerds shootin the breeze.
Huv is drunk and in trouble.
pmac is eating pizza and doing it with his hottie.
Nick is out partying.
Ryan and Mad are MIA.
Your stuck here with the rest of us..
Hey Kristi, I think I am going to be reviewing one of your sauces, I can’t wait!!!!!
Yea, i’m waiting too. Did you recieve informational e-mail regarding # made, price, purchase limit?
[Comment ID #18611 Quote]

Well, it’s nice to know there are others without lives also ๐
I love spending my friday nights on the internet! ok that was sarcasm. But I just moved so I don’t know alot of people. Sounds like everyone else is having plenty of fun though!
[Comment ID #18613 Quote]
Not yet, it is susposed to be tomorrow. I will be checking periodicaly.
Yeah I am curious how many were made. I reckon we will find out soon enough ๐
You mean there are other things besides talking about hot sauce????
[Comment ID #18619 Quote]
Not many So I might as well hang out here ha!
I was told there should be enough for everyone who wants one.
Not that e-mail. Just an info e-mail. I got one… would you like a copy?
ok, i’ve made a serious attempt at catching up here, but I’ve given up…I’ll go from here ๐
[Comment ID #18619 Quote]
Nope..nothing..this thread is strickly HOT SAUCE!!

Good to hear there should be enough to get one! At least hopefully enough for me to get one
[Comment ID #18624 Quote]
And andything else we can think of
You going on about the defcon 0 e-mail?
I can just post it on here. I’m waiting for Mr. Chris K.
[Comment ID #18631 Quote]

charter? where do you live Aaron?
[Comment ID #18631 Quote]
YUP did you get one?
[Comment ID #18625 Quote]
I will just post it here.
Nope, didn’t submit my e-mail address. Those weren’t on my hit list
[Comment ID #18635 Quote]
Decatur, AL Charter has a stranglehold on most of the state here
[Comment ID #18612 Quote]
Which one? Is it from the batches we just sent out to Nick?
[Comment ID #18638 Quote]
What are you looking for?
AHHH…I thught Comcast had totally bought them out. Only place left that I knew of before now that had charter was the Oregon coast
Stuff I can’t really afford at the moment. I would like to get all the Blair’s reserve (missing 7 of them) and the CaJohns unique bottles
Wow they don’t get much further away than Oregon and Alabama. haha I have seen advertising for Comcast as they are around in MS everywhere.
[Comment ID #18640 Quote]
I sent in my request for one of the bottles, which one i get will depend on him. I’t seems like everyone that has tried is quite impressed.
Aaron……..Was that you who said they just moved from Mississippi?
Well thank you for saying that, I hope you like them. Again, they are not killer heat, but i think you’ll like.
[Comment ID #18644 Quote]
There are some CaJohns on ebay and pmac is getting a bunch this weekend that will be for sale.
[Comment ID #18611 Quote]
NOt drunk… just deeling no pain. (OK Drunk)
FOR EVERYONE!!!!! Here’s what I was told from the Creator….
” There will be 50 available, 1 per person. Cost is $40.00 plus $8.00 shipping. If you
have gotten in in time, you will receive a Paypal invoice, once this invoice is
paid, your ZERO will go out immediately. I will allow only a 48 hour time
period to receive payment after the invoice has been sent, after that your
invoice will be cancelled, and your ZERO will go to the next person in line.
Sounds kind of harsh, but I have to keep it fair. May Lady Luck shine upon you in getting one!
John & Maggie
Definitely drunk. FEELING no pain.
charter is in Missouri also
That is correct. I just moved from McComb, well actually Bogue Chitto but that is a smaller town north of there. Where are you from? I think I remember reading you were from the coast I believe. I go back every once in a while to visit the parents.
[Comment ID #18648 Quote]
If you read my profile, you will see that i would rather have great taste than killer hot.
[Comment ID #18649 Quote]
I’ve seen the ones on ebay (get like 7 e-mails every morning from my ebay searches) but I’m not concerned about the signatures. I can get all but a couple of the ones I want off of ebay for a little over $100, just have to wait and see what the mechanic tells me about my truck first.
[Comment ID #18651 Quote]
Dang Maybe I didn’t get in. I sent him an email a long time ago but I don’t think he got it for some reason? Who knows I guess we shall wait and see
See Comment #278.
I live in Ocean Springs. Been “many” a year since I was in McComb! Don’t remember very much about it.
Be back in a bit all, going to the store then taco hell
[Comment ID #18625 Quote]
Yep, I am here
Did you see Comment #278?
[Comment ID #18659 Quote]
Probably cause there isn’t much too it!
[Comment ID #18660 Quote]
Get some fire packets to suck on!!! ๐
[Comment ID #18662 Quote]
Sounds like cody and the Creator share the same brain?!?!
LOL! From what little bit I do remember you called it right!
Uh oh Ha I just realized that the address I gave him isn’t set up with paypal! haha I guess we shall see what happens
Hey Tracy, you were right, has to be!
huvason, you are back..
That’s what was I was told from The Creator.
[Comment ID #18600 Quote]
I have tried to post my work phone number and it hasn’t gone through. Nick must have a filter on that does not allow the posting on phone numbers. Either that or I am so stupid that it takes three times to post this sh!t.
Dan
I’m just letting you know. ๐
[Comment ID #18671 Quote]
Thanks man! That’s cool
[Comment ID #18668 Quote]
Yeah… just checking in. Going to bed real soon. Very Long week. I’ll have to rely on my Blackberry if the Creator sends his email
[Comment ID #18651 Quote]
[Comment ID #18662 Quote]
Yes, I did see that. However I am skeptical as to the authenticity of this document. This can not be written by you as being what you were told because you would not have included John & Maggie at the bottom.
It also does not seem to be written in the usual Creator fashion as we have all become accustom to.
Until the Creator himself has spoken, I remain an unbeliever.
I got a paypal account now for tha address just in case I didn’t miss out lol
[Comment ID #18673 Quote]
He will send out an e-mail at 3am that says SUCKER! and wake you up for that!
Gee…I hope I get one…wink..wink
[Comment ID #18674 Quote]
Would you like me to send you the e-mail?
It came from this e-mail address: defconcreator@defconsauces.com
[Comment ID #18677 Quote]
HEy eman…. you get my pacjage today?
Why is it every time you post an email address it dissappears?
[Comment ID #18679 Quote]
Not yet. Should be here soon!
[Comment ID #18680 Quote]
Nick’s internet magic, simply magic eman!
[Comment ID #18681 Quote]
Check our email………. I will forward you something…
[Comment ID #18680 Quote]
I’m having the same problem with posting my work phone number… It appears as though you cannot post phone numbers?? Anyone have any insight on this topic?
Hot Sauce is yummy!! I really likes it!! It can be very good for your health too!! First time I ever had it, it burned my lips!! Ouch!!
Every time i post my adderss here it is disappears in 30 sec. but the creators is still up. I don’t get it, maby it is magic?
[Comment ID #18686 Quote]
Or…. Maybe Nick don’t like you ๐
[Comment ID #18685 Quote]

What happened to everyone else?
NIght all…
[Comment ID #18678 Quote]
If you did get that email cody, you are lucky as no one else has. maybe you have been singled out for some reason.
Gettn’ tired here
EMAN OUT
[Comment ID #18686 Quote]
Hey eman, its automatic
Line and paragraph breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed,
I dunno. All I know is I got it.
[Comment ID #18698 Quote]

Yeah it is a good thing there is an automatic email remover cause I would hate to know I got spammed cause I posted too much on HSB
[Comment ID #18698 Quote]
not for nothing… but every piece of email from the Creator has come from defconsauces@aol.com. I hope he has finally gone away from aol and began using his own domain (I was going to shoot him and email about that ๐ )… but the email from last week came from aol.com.
my .02
Good Night (again)
Oh Yeah… the Creator is laughing at us all.
What’s “my .02”?
Means “my 2 cents”…..
Night Cody. I’m old, tired and Drunk. Have a good one.
lol he is just saying he is giving his opinion pretty much
[Comment ID #18703 Quote]
It would probably be better to email, before shooting him..
I knew that but what is the significance? Good Night.
Who’s staying on?
night…i’m done
[Comment ID #18709 Quote]
Good to know that you know
We must agree not to shoot the Creator. The Createss might appreciate that a good bit!!
If I stay on it isn’t for ZERO it is for woot better known as http://www.woot.com
Don’t get hooked cause you will lose sleep over it
Wow… way too much beer and wine (did I mention my wife fell asleep and I had to finsh the wine… I lovely wine form the vineyards of the North Fork of Long Island……. Oh yeah hot sauce).
Brewing up a nice batch of SUPER hot Mango Habanero tomorrow. Going to use some Red Savina Mash from Jim (wildpepper.com). I f you guys haven’t ordere from him, you are truly missing out.
Although… maybe I did mean to SHOOT the Creator ๐
You are not joking about dealing with Jim. He is one of the best I have dealt with on the net. Definitely made me want to come back for more!
Well, i’m going to sleep. I have to go to work today. (Saturday) Good night all!
[Comment ID #18714 Quote]
later huvason
[Comment ID #18709 Quote]
Ahhh. cody, son of Cretaor. You ask simple questions but speak intellectual thoughts. Are you not a ventriquilist doll for Mr Creator?
Hey chris is my hot sauce on its way to me today? ๐
anyway…later folks
Check ya later huv and cody… !!
Ok, I’m back. Got the fire sauce packets. I’ve been working on my ultra cool “pimp my sauce” (the BS Reserve was a fly by night thing just to get one up). I’ll let you all know when I’m done.
well, I’ve finished my pimp your sauce (the real one) and sent it in to Nick. Hopefully he’ll share it with you all. G’night everybody!
>> What a beautiful night of sleep. Time to wake up!
[Comment ID #18735 Quote]
Man, you really do like making them twitch! ๐
I like to think of it more as putting a little zest into the morning.
I’m tried…Hello Creator
Hmmmm, pretty clever, Creator!
All those that enjoyed “the merriment of St. Patrick”are unable to awake early, ๐ thus unable to respond to the e-mail. Interesting!
[Comment ID #18354 Quote]
[Comment ID #18739 Quote]
Hey cody, you must have been checking in often?
Looks like you may get one.
I hope you dont mind all the talk last night, remember, “he who enjoys the fruit of life that prospers from its well-givings”
I think i’ve got lots of reading to do – just looked at my ‘missed something’ section and it says I’ve missed 341 comments in here. Where have I been?
[Comment ID #18444 Quote]
sounds like an entertaining combination!! I remember being in Ireland n gettin drunk – then the songs really start! Anyone fancy giving me an update on this or was it just good old St. P’s day banter?
[Comment ID #18329 Quote]
sorry to go back – but what is jersey death then?
[Comment ID #18963 Quote]
I do not believe Jersey death has been rated. I’ve heard that it is 50 -100% hotter than MegaDeath putting it at 825K – 1.1M scoville.
huvason you’re right, Jersey Death is the hottest. I thought it was past 1.5 million SUs
[Comment ID #18983 Quote]
Maybe 1.5M. I haven’t actually heard that but I would believe it. It’s much hotter than Mega Death (and better tasting IMHO)
Funny Story. I have everyone in the office on the hot sauce buzz. So they wanted to try some of my “hottest sauce” I gave them an After Death and that shut up most except two wise guys. I knew they were dying but they were too proud to admit the heat. One actually said “That’s not hot at all” So that’s when I brought in the heavy ammo Jersey Death. This guy put 3 good squirts on his hamburger. HAHAHAHAHAHAH I’m laughing just thinking about it. Jersey Death is by far the hottest sauce (not an ingrediant) that I’ve ever tried. It taste (for the first second) pretty good too.
[Comment ID #18991 Quote]
Yeah. I got guys like also. Two of them are pretty good. Can handle some heat.
[Comment ID #18987 Quote]
Yeah I would believe that too.. I have a bottle of 3am and I would say jersey death is high up there with it
Do you think it will ever be tested for an exact reading.
I guess that would be up to blair. Not sure.
