This sauce carry’s the now familiar branding of the company and states “moderate heat”. The colour is a deep orangey red and tempting me to open the bottle so let’s get on with it.
Ingredients: Tomatoes, Onions, Red Wine Vinegar, Sugar, Molasses, Smoked Garlic (1%), Smoked Chipotle Chilli (1%), Various spices.
Bottle kindly provided by The Wiltshire Chilli Farm
Once open there is an immediate aroma of tomatoes, smokiness and a sweetness from the molasses. Having already read the ingredients list I know that this only contains 1% chipotle so I’m not expecting a hot sauce. That’s one of the key things about sauce making, having a balance of heat versus flavour. It’s not always about extreme heat.
This sauce lives up to that adage, it is immediately smoky, and sweet and has a gentle burn in the background. I could see myself using this on anything to be honest, and as the label suggests would work well as a marinade for meat prior to Barbequing.
It is very moreish and I soon realise that I have gone through half the 140ml bottle just writing this review.
So another solid product from Jamie Sythe’s and at £4 or 3 for £10 it looks even better.
Available from most of the major Chilli festivals this summer and from www.justchillies.co.uk
