Just a few close ups of some of the vintage labels.
These vintage sets have to be some of the coolest labels I’ve ever seen! Blair put in a ton of work to “resurrect” these labels and the effort can now be seen by all the chileheads out there in the world. Man these are sweet looking bottles. Oh, and each set contains a signed Sweet Death from Blair as well (not a vintage label). Just a gift from one of the world’s biggest chileheads.
Thank You Blair for all the effort and love that went into producing fine collectors items.

It’s weird that there is a “vintage” Jersey Death Sauce label. Jersey Death came out last year. Maybe that was an original design for it? Also, there are 6 bottles not 5!

The lowest number I have of anything is a 7/999 Le Million (which I paid $49 for….lol). 🙂
VERY COOL. It makes me look at our labels and wonder if one day we’ll ever release them as ‘vintage’ labels. lol.
yea thats my first number one of anything, for me personally im not interested as much in the number, i just like having one. The closest i had b4 this was my #32 caldera. What i like about how this set came was each bottle had different numbers. so one person wouldnt have all the #1’s 2’s etc
Yeah MikeG, there are gonna be 50 happy people, because single digit and 99 are the ones most desire to some extent. And seeing as there are 45 single digit and 5 99’s 🙂 half approximately will get something that much more special.

I just had our label designer guy leave with the new labels for our grocery store. Anyone wants our old labels, there’re only a few left and selling them off would keep Michael from having to wash the bottles.

Bad thing was, I was in, had to cancel at the very last minute. ‘Puter went down, been using a loaner. Got the new one going today though, man this thing is fast! Compared to my old dinosaur I was using anyway.

I’d just like to say that even though a bunch of eBay auctions are now linking to the HSB – that is not an endorsement from the HSB to those auctions, they are just linking on their own – pmac started it and a bunch of folks are jumping on the bandwagon. Yeah but thats crazy. No one in their right nond would jump on on that auction, people wanna have a chance for a good price, it should start low and if anything have a reserve, that way there is a second chance offer possibility :). (just tips for the one listing it) because there most likely will be several if not more up for sale, just like b99 n59, they are just as “rare” so to speak, and others will be offering up a couple bottles for those that dont wanna drop too much money and still share the collection.
P.S. I must say though to the person listing, good luck all the power to you. I hope it sells for you, especially based on the reason, sounds like you wanna go to the zest fest maybe 🙂

Don’t hate me folks but I have a new member to my number 1 club. It looks like for the most part that the numbers are spaced out 11 apart. Thakswet seems to be the only exception so far.

The New Reserve Coming in June and open for orders this month will be the last Reserve In my Current Bottle (Not Including 2am and 3am) The amount will be from 300 to 500 Bottles. All Future Reserves Including Halloween 2006 will be in a New Bottle. I am currently working on a custom Glass Mold for ALL Reserves in the Future

Hey Thakswet, In answer to your question about stores…….That my friend is not a simple answer…….While I KNOW the Sauces would sell great in the Major Supermarkets, chains etc….It is much more complex….If I chose to go that path then I would saying f-u to the Hundreds and Hundreds of Gourmet Speciality Markets that carry my products…..These stores have supported me when I did not have enough money to make 10 cases of Sauce. If you turn around and then sell to the Walmarts of the world you destroy the “Special Nature” of the product….In my opinion of course..Much more to say but it would be a book

The very funny thing about that, is there are a number of people that feel you are an industry GIANT.

But compared to some (wonderful) backyard ma and pop shops I guess you would be a giant. So it is up to personal interpretation of what a giant is.

What do you feel has lead to your items (and most are) driving such a collectible market, while others out there will never see the types of prices at auction yours see, and theirs can be 10 years old and yours within a year? Just wondering if you ever wondered or had ideas on that, and if it was your plan or it jsut sort of happened?

well Blair, I had habanero sorbet a couple of times and that whole hot cold thing is pretty cool. But thats a bit different from the “normal” hot sauce trail.
Also –For the Record—Many People think it bothers me that I sell a Reserve for $100 and it is quickly resold for 5 times or more .The Fact is We live in the United States of America and if you choose to sell your Reserves…More power to you…They will go to a Happy Home…….

Well thak, I don’t really know what you meant by this, but I think you could take a few notes from those of us that make the sauce. I checked out earlier to go drain a few aluminum cans with another “maker”, Dude. We are a brotherhood here in the land of Chileheads, we don’t make innuendos, we don’t “compete” and we are not “intimidated” by any one of our fellow bretheren. We are a family, we stand together to produce products from the chiles that we love. We do it for you! Much like sauce for soldiers, some special sauces/ lables/ reserves for other charites would be cool….I would buy one for the cause and the collections coolness.
Since it scientificly proven that hot stuff improves blood circulation , the heart foundation might be a good start.
here is a thought, I think we have now 3 of us that all have the same numbers but different sauces of course, maybe if we find all five on HSB we could figure out trade or something between us all to get every bottle being the same numbers for our collections. That would be cool to have all 5 types with all the same numbers.

Good news and devastating news…. The good news first, I got the #1 Sudden Death w/ chipotle. Well, that is the only good news. The bad news!!! I got my box at the door. It looked fine, no damage on the outside. I picked it up and smelled a strong hot sauce smell. Thought there might be a problem. When I opened the box I found a MESS!!! The Gardners Death was broken and (since the bottles weren’t wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in packing peanuts) hot sauce was all over the inside of the box. Every bottle has sauce all over the outside and the labels look to be ruined. They are all wet from the broken bottle of sauce. That definately ruined my weekend. I was excited when I saw the box at the door. Didn’t think it was big enough to have the 5 bottles of Blair’s Vintage that I had ordered in it… Now I have to figure out if anything can be done with these. Hope everybody else gets their’s in 1 piece… This is devastating!!!

If you like that sort of thing, I think you should contact CaJohn, his Lady Liberty RWB Bottle was originally made for the 911 relief fund as well. I believe he still has a handful for sale. number 100 is in there too. there were about 120ish made but originally supposed to be 2001, and the first 4 made were #1 9 11 and 911 but I think(correct me please John if I get it wrong) he ran out of one of the wax colors and had to stop in the ealy 100’s or the bottles were discontinued one of the two.

I think it is an interesting collection, it is his so he chooses what goes in it. He often askes my opinion, and thats nice. I really prefer hot sauce i can eat though.
I wasn’t really into it until Ryan got a package from TracyC and that was the beginning, I have started my own collection, and Ryan gets my opinion on stuff from time to time so it becomes a little mine too…. but we have different styles of what we collect or what we would like in our collections.
Most bottles are really designed well, so they look good. That matters when you have an entire wall dedicated to it:)

I would actually like to address this comment because I seems to come up more and more, even yesterday when the Blair 1-on-1 thig happened. It unfortunately caught me off guard because I would not want someone like him or CaJohn, or anyone else in the industry thinking I just sell these things for profit. I do in fact make some money here and there on bottles absolutely…However, let me be crystal clear when i say this…I do not take a dime home, I broker buy low sell high because I find track down do allot of legwork spend money on long distance calling places across several countries. ALL in an effort to improve my wall or rather display cabinet. If I did not do this there would be no way that I could afford the Caldera, Halloween ’04 10oz Death with White wax gold skull or Lady Liberty RWB #1 etc etc etc. I love these bottles, and do a lot of time investment to make it all happen. I hope some of you understand that, and I expect that some will not. But otherwise I would not have what I have today. Hell I do not even have a B-99 anymore, I traded it for something I felt was more important and unattainable, but I paid $500 for the B-99, so as you can see (i hope) there is alot of money tied up in my, and most, collections. We do not have the bottlomless pits for pockets though, so I have to do other things to get what I like! 🙂
This was not intended to be defensive, but since my far better half is going to start coming online here, I see a better than average chance that we will in fact be meeting some of you down the road, and I do not want a reputation like that. It is not what we are about, selling for profit only. Its about the collection. I am really trying to see what I can do about ZF in September. I do not know the first thing about it though, and would if at all possible make a long weekend of it. Where who when etc. I havent followed it to date so i am a little out of the loop on ZF.

Just for you info, I do not in any way think you are a horrible person for selling and or trading part of your collection for things that you would like to have more or are more expensive or are more sentimental, those that look down at you for that should probably look in a mirror and address some truths about themselves before trying to cast stones or insults, I look for the best deals on the bottles that I want whether it be for pennies (ha ha) or hundreds (more like it) some of these bottles people would think I am a nutball for coveting, or even buying, and I say Poo poo to them, it’s MY collection and I will collect WHAT I want. or give away or sell or whatever I choose to do with it, I have however made a few promises along with my hubby to never let certain bottles go up on ebay or sell or whatnot, because they were provided to us out of the goodness of someones heart, or otherwise. so pmac, I say do what you want to get what you want, as long as no bridges are burned, I sincerely hope to see you and the mrs.pmac and ZF please let Ryan and I know if there is something we can do to help in the meantime.

LOL@plane tickets, let me give you an idea of what we are doing to get our tickets, we are keeping an eye out on the travelocity, orbitz etc. and I am putting 20 bucks a day away when I can and Ryan is doing the same, we have been saving for about 6 weeks and have covered everything but spending money. I will tell you I guard the “texas” fund like a pitbull chewing on a chihuahua 😀 (no offfense to my chihuahua) I can tell you where we got the best deal on a hotel just email Ryan we’ll send you all the details and keep you updated on the best deals for plane fair….

When we went into the city for the Chile Pepper Heat on the Street thing in front of the Stock exchange, we rode in from LaGuardia in a 15 passenger van. The night is still young for MSK, he is the true “Night Owl”. I’m sure he is working on his database and his site. The man is phenominal! And very entertaining. He can talk for hours on sauces.
I am really looking forward to the completion of that site, his collection is absolutely amazing.
What’s amazing is how he has tracked down some of the producers who are out of the biz and got them to sign a bottle or two for him. That takes some real perseverence!
That is amazing, I am not sure if I would have the tenacity to do that. I get frustrated with sites that advertise bottles they don’t have 🙁
So many of the sites have webmasters who get a fee for every change they make. It is sort of crazy that the stores can’t make changes themselves. We’re guilty of that too. I am trying to get it so we can at least put sold out, or discontinued on some of the items. It upsets people, and justifably so, when we have to call them and tell them we don’t have something. We try to get stores we know that have it to send it to them. That’s what Vic was talking about with the HD Heat. Pepper Palace sent it to them for us. We pass on the sale and the customer gets what they wanted, and the store gets a new customer. It’s a win for everyone! Pepper Palace has a lot of older sauces that collectors are looking for. They don’t have them on the site, but you can call them and they’ll tell you if they have it. Pepper Palace Rocks!
I know Craig lurks on this blog so I posted that for his benefit, they really do have a great selection. Now if we could only get them to sell CaBoom! Salsa again…
ahhhh yes! I have them in my faves, but have never ordered from them. I look on ebay, and talk to Ryan, I just got into the collecting side so I am just collecting info and figuring out what everything is worth and what I am willing to spend it takes a lot of time but I think it’s worth it. As far as my vintage set, I have not been to the post office yet as I have been out of town dealing with my dad’s recovery. I hope to find a set in there tonight! Can’t wait to share with you all!!

I was actually just wondering if you were attending. That’s all we’re doing. We have some customers there that we don’t get to see a lot so it’s nice to for us to go down and see them and chat for a few minutes.

I think they have the sauce that is on the label (i.e. the Jersey Death label is on a new bottle of Jersey death)

The Vintage bottles are actual labels that for whatever reason never went into production Some are even handwritten by me from 1989. The labels include- Death, Sudden, Jersey, Jalapeno and Mega. Yes enzot, huvason is right- they are reproductions of older labels but not older sauces, each sauce is what the label shows 🙂

I was down there all day yesterday. Some cool stuff. Not too many new products but I did get a chance to try Blair’s new salsas. WOW are they good. Blair wasn’t at this show. Apparently he was needed in Jersey. It would have been great to meet him. I did talk to Paul and Greg from Bodine Specialty Foods again, though. Those guys are great. Looking forward to hanging with them and many others at ZestFest this year.

Right now its hard to tell which I would prefer!!!
I think I will have the galbladder removed :), apparently I can eat hotter foods then without having a crummy feeling afterwords.

My set just got here about 10 minutes ago, and the Gardener’s Death Bottle – the entire bottle – was cracked completely in half and had leaked out ALL of the ingredients. Such a shame. The bad news is that EVERY bottle was damaged because the labels were ruined. :/

2 Vintage sets are available on ebay now for anyone who didn’t get one the first time around. Just an FYI.
I got my set the other day, I’ll have to post the numbers next week when I get back into town. Wow are they ever cool, even the wife was taken aback with them.
My set was dead mint-perfect signatures in a variety of sharpie colors. Following the #11 theory:

I love Blairs sauces, but as for his buisness tactics I think they suck. When he started the cutting room floor contest, it was supposed to end on a certain date and it didn’t. If he would of ended when he said, I would have wound up with one of these sets for free. Am I a sore loser, I don’t think so, I followed the rules he set forth and when it was time to see who the winners were going to be, he extended the contest, it wasn’t fair to all of us who entered on time, it just pisses me off ’cause I was definately a winner til he extended the time, just not good practice and really unethical. Probably waited for some of his friends to enter, I won’t be entering any more of his contests, I think they’re fixed.

Where did that come from? Sorry you feel that way. I do not think it is fixed, but even more so….what would make you so sure you would have won? There were from what I recall over 400 entries, and I bet MOST were in within the first 10 days 🙂

Just as Blair puts on his bottle’s “made with great karma”, I believe he tried to have great karma in the way he ran his contest by giving more people an oppurtunity to get there stories in. I did win a cutting room floor set but was so prepared not to after so many good stories and collection pictures were sent in. I had no ill feelings when I read that it would be extended, honestly, it made it more exciting and suspenseful. Before the results even came out I already felt like a winner just by being a part of it. Well, that’s just another opinion. Thanks for listening.
