I am glad to see an update, but does it always have to involve Blair again? I used to love coming here and reading reviews, Jay’s plant lessons, fiery shows, recipes, but it seems like one big Blair arsekissing session. Am I out of line here, if so I am sorry, but I want to wake up each morning and come here and see the interesting topic you have up here. I check in once a week now and notice nothing is happening, but when there is it usually is a Blair post.

Hey Blair, nothing against you and your fine company nor Zakk. This is not meant to start a fight, just to light a fire that seems to be missing here for a while now.

Kind of hard to say Al- not without knowing what is being submitted. Most everything runs in cycles, blogs included. Things will pick up again, I’m sure.

I don’t know for sure either, but I haven’t submitted anything in a long time. It would seem that a lot of the used to be regular contributors have been way too busy lately. I still check to see what’s up though.

Agreed Buddah, I have to say I was dissapointed to see a new thread up that was about the one and only, once again….no offense of course to Blair or Zakk. I will continue checking for updates eeryday though and somehow Ill do it without getting bitter and mean toward nick and the reviewers. Life happens and Im not looking to spew just because things arent being done the way I might like them to be done. Not saying thats what your saying, just a little something Ive learned from past posts by angry bloggers.

I too wish that the HSB would go back to old times, before the unexplained haitus. I think that this is the end of an era. A lot of readers were hurt over how that haitus was (mis)handled. I know I was and a few close friends who visited the site as much as have given up on it long ago. Each time I come here, I am saddened to see the same article from a week ago, only a hand full of comments, some bashing the lack of updates such as this.

I am only speaking on speculation, but I don’t think the same heart is in the HSB as there once was, things change, priorities change. Maybe it is time to move on.

Sad is all.

I know I’m certainly guilty of not contributing lately- that’s why I hesitate to throw the stone :-) Winter’s coming though. Ought to give a lot of us a bit more time to write. I’m listed as a writer at the “other” blog and haven’t contributed much there lately either. Sigh…..

Hey, not to change the subject, but I’m tired of all the negativity so who cares. I have a question to all of the producers out there. How is the current economy effecting your sauce business? How are sales? How are costs? Etc.

I cannot speak for the real manufacturers, but as for myself, the only time we sell anything worth speaking about is when I’m @ the Farmer’s Market or during the holidays (thank god the holidays are almost upon us). Other than that it seems to be biz as usual. More people eating @ home to try and save a buck could be a good thing.

I didn’t see you @ ZF, I thought we were gonna have a few beers? BTW I f’d that show up for us by leaving 1/2 our stuff @ home.

I was supposed to be at ZF, but decided at the last minute not to go. I will however be at the FF&B in the spring. I’m hoping to have product in hand and maybe will have a booth, but not likely because they should sell out before I can commit (if they already haven’t). That doesn’t mean that we won’t do some sort of release party.

Can’t really say if it’s expansion of shipping or not. Mostly it’s getting back into the bulk supply of chiles to other folks like Stubbs BBQ.

Hey guys good to pop in and see a little writing. Good question Gary…I, like Jim, have sales that are up over last year but my problem has been getting consistent shipments of jars. I didn’t realize Hurricane Ike supposedly affected a few jar plants so I’ve been busy just trying to keep up when normally at this time I have a good on hand stock for local fall shows.

I like many check in each day on all my favorite sites…just usually don’t have a lot of time to comment…waiting for a cold day…take care

Why did you go to the low of a level Anthony? You disrespect a guy who had a poster for the Hot Sauce Blog at the Weekend of Fire, despite NOT 1 mention of it in any post here. Yet, a thread on the Toronto Hot Sauce show appears here mysteriously once the Weekend of Fire is over. A lot of Manufacturers that come here get support from this man who buys their product if they just call the man. Yet, you attack him this way? How Nick every entrusted you as a moderator is beyond me. Now you can attack me too. I have tried to get along with everyone, but when you attack a guy with a heart of gold, then you attack every single person that has ever crossed paths with him.

Good question Gary. I think with the economy the way it is, people don’t have the disposable income they used to. So instead of buying large $ items, they treat themselves to the smaller $ items. Instead of going out to an expensive restaurant, I think people are staying home a bit more and cranking up their grills instead.

I can say our sales are way up from last year, so were quite happy. This has a bit to do with expansion for us, but all in all, people are buying a lot more. I think people are staying home more these days, and actually perfecting their own cooking skills, instead of dropping a bunch of bucks at restaurants on a regular basis.

Seriously Anthony, has it ever occured to you to keep your shi*ty comments to yourself? It IS POSSIBLE to express your opinion without being nasty ya know. So, has anyone tried the Berserker sauces yet? I just got them all in stock and the ingredient lists look interesting, sound like they may be good tasting..2 of em dont have extract.

And Anthony..as a manager I was taught a long time ago, it is my responsibility to defuse volatile situations not escalate them….as a moderator maybe you should take a little of that advise,

Exactly. I come to this site maybe once a week now only to find that it still isn’t updated, Nick is never around, and we have to listen to someone like Anthony. It’d be nice if Nick would actually say something… I have emailed him several times as he did a review of my sauce that simply disappeared a few days later never to be seen again. My sales are up because we just got into some local grocery stores but so are the costs of veggies. I get a few occasional hits on the web site but very few orders.
Hey Big Dawg, I get my jars from TricorBraun in ALB. They dont seem to have been affected.
I just ordered the 4 pack of Zakk’s sauces. I hope they come soon.

This blog reminds me of the current economic situation of our country. It slides and slides to lower and lower levels, and then makes a positive comeback rally, and then slides again. With all of the bickering and negativity going on here, I wouldn’t blame people for jumping ship and never coming back. I am also concerned about the fact that there may be a moderator who is eliminating posts. It’s not the job of the moderator to play God. It’s their job to make sure that posts don’t contain offensive, vulgar and inappropriate content — that’s all. Whether they agree or disagree with what is written here should be of no concern to them and IF they are indeed removing posts that should not be, than they are abusing their power and should be considered for removal by Nick and replaced with someone who has more integrity. Let’s not start a witch hunt here or anything, let’s just as that Nick take care of the problem if there is one and move on.

Well that was productive. All of this could and would be avoided if Nick would just post a comment explaining everything. This is twice now that this has occured and I don’t think that anybody is going to stick around for a third to occur.

Nick if you are no longer, or incapable (for personal reasons) to manage the site, can you please consider selling it or passing it off to admins that have the same vision that you once had?

The Hot Sauce Blog is an amazing site, with a great community. It has become a wealth of hot sauce reviews, resources and a litmus test to see if your fiery product will make it in the market place. I personally do not know of any other free service that can provide this.

I am just a fan of hotsauce, and all things spicy. I came across the HSB about 2 years ago and it has inspired me to enter the market with my own offerings (still a work in progress). I have talked to quite a few great people on this site about getting started, each offered a wealth of information and tips.

I loved writing the Makin’ Habaneros articles and entering the Super Bowl Wing Off’s, the Thanksgiving recipe contest and being a part of this family.

The way that I understand how this site is run is it is basically one person’s show with a few helpers. But ultimately it is the one person who is responsible for what articles get posted, and it should be if only one person is footing the bill for hosting, one person arranging advertising, one person arranging trade show booths, one person is ensuring that the site works, one person is arranging content and organizing who does the hot sauce reviews. That would be daunting for any man.

As I said before there is an amazing community here and a wealth of information. I would hate for the site to fade into nothing and it all be wasted. How many times have you come to this site to check on a particular brand of hotsauce before trying it? I do all the time, and you know what, about 90% of the brand name sauces I have looked for a review on, is here.

I have a fridge full of hot sauces and products from all over that I have bought because it has been reviewed here, or mentioned here. I have on quite a few occasions seen a new posting and ran out to get a bottle, or ordered one online.

We have a Wiki of hot sauces here that is too valuable to be wasted. Nick please ask for help or change the format to be community driven with a panel of elected admins so things like this don’t occur again.

You have a wonderful site here, seriously. In today’s age of the Internet to have a site with so many members, so much content, and so much potential, you have something really special, you are extremely lucky.

Nick, thank you for making this what it is, please let us all talk on what it can be.

Please don’t let it die.

–Jay

I agree with Jay 100%. I think that unfortunately interest in this site will drop off sharply if it continues down the path it’s on.

Nick, please call me if you get a chance. I may be interested in purchasing the HSB (or part there of) if it is no longer a passion of yours. I of course have no idea how to run it and would end up relying on help from others in the hot sauce community to restore the integrity of this site.

At any rate PLEASE call me!

Jay, I enjoyed your articles as well and hopefully will be able to use them to their full extent next year. This year I grew only 4 orange habs, which yielded many peppers but all were quite small.

Truth, if that’s the case, than why can’t these bits of info be provided by Nick himself. I think the biggest aggravation here is the fact that people are asking for Nick to chime in and answer some questions and he doesn’t. Calling the posters on this thread “funny” because they are concerned is insulting.

Sam,
Thank you for the compliment, I am glad that the articles helped you. I really enjoyed writing them and would love to do more for this site. I truly do love it, what it is and what it could be.

Truth,
I am glad to hear that there is a ball rolling for the HSB. I think that a posting other than yours call us all funny is definetly required, very soon, or there will be nobody left from this family in the new incarnation of what is to become of the HSB.

It shows you that both this time and the haitus early in the summer there has been a big impact on the community that shows that we love this site and the people who have become it’s family.

We care deeply and appreciate this site.

Can we please get back on topic. I had these new sauces tonight. They suck, no quality control over at Blairs would account for putting out hot sauce that taste like dirty dish water. Muerte is phenominal, but Zakk Wilde is Yakk Bile. I think someone took pics me running to the bathroom after trying one of the sauces because they thought I was going to barf. Not the case, I just wanted to spit it out as fast as I could.

I tried the Original Berserker & gave the others the ’sniff test’. Certainly didn’t find the Original to be offensive in any way. I kinda liked it. Still trying to place the ‘mystery flavor’ identified by several. Green sauce smelled like it was going to be good too, but I was hot sauced out. Extract is extract- ’nuff said about that ;-)

Sorry for the confusion Justin! The green sauce did not have extract in it- I was referring to the other two. My intent was to say I didn’t try the green one- mild, hot or not- because I was pretty well done with sauces after three straight days of chiles by the time I got around to the green one :-)

Yet another fake comment. Hence the move over. For those reading things on other sites, rest assured the new HSB changes coming will be a huge benefit to all. For makers, fans and all things hot food related.

So why all the top secret shit. About a New blog site. There are 1000s of them. And Guess what many of them are about hot sauce and other hot stuff. Sorry Nick you started HSB but the folks that get on here and post are what makes the HSB. Look at HWL what the hell doe’s Blane know about running a Blog site. Leroy could run one. Just kidding Blane.LOL
So I have heard we will need to learn a hand shake to sign on to the new blog. What’s up with that. Anyway just so you know I use the blogs as tool for work. I see people talking about Hot sauce or BBQ and if it’s not one I have. I try to get intouch with the Manf about getting it in my store. WOw lots of rambling. Point is Blog is a blog. If you don’t like it turn it off. Good luck with new site and Anthony when are we going to sit down and have a talk are you going to NM in March hope so.

Oh come on. Enough! Why all this patience and calm down stuff? Why can’t Nick just give us the lowdown on what is going on and when to expect what? These cryptic little posts from Anthony and Truth and the like are crap. That’s all anyone is really asking. Very simple thing to do yet it doesn’t get done. I don’t get it.

No Truth, I don’t. I don’t care how big or great the new site is, a word from Nick and not YOU or Anthony is appropriate. Problem is, I get it, but you don’t.

I never got my bottles. Signed both labels, paid for shipping (for one of them) and then the first set of labels “got lost” (or half of them) and i’ve heard nothing on the second set. PErhaps the new mega-site launch will resurrect the labels\bottles.

Results — of about 768,000 for hot sauce blogs.(Google search)

Lots of Luck with your competition. You will need it.

A Collectors Edition of HSB. What a laugh, after nick kept all the
labels from 2 sets for future use. All of us that signed those lost
$10 plus on Priority Mailing, than nothing.

Why would you bump sauces that tastes like ass? Especially on a site that is now located elsewhere?
