Monday morning at 12:24 AM in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Select, Dude’s window was smashed and his truck/trailer was stolen. Inside of the trailer was what was left after the show from both Old Pueblo Distributing’s and CaJohns booths. The truck/trailer was recovered sometime Monday, but the ENTIRE contents of the trailer were gone. Included in the loss were approximately 24 Caveat Emptors and Mini Light You Up bottles. So those of you in the Houston area, if you find a good deal on a Caveat Emptor, Chip & I would love to know of the person you get it from. This was caught on video, but we are not too hopeful of this helping us catch the perps. You Texas chileheads are our best shot.
The CEs were only a part of what was stolen. All of the display units and inventory from both companies are “in the wind”ย. PBR barrel racks, slanted sauce display boards, many, many bottles of “State specific”ย sauces (Texas Road Kill, Oklahoma Rt. 66 etc) Arizona Pickles brand sauces, even some Bret’s Eat S%^* and Howl at the Moon. Fatalii Fire, Black Mamba (with bags & snakes, we never have wholesaled this packaging to anyone) Talon, Frostbite, the entire remaining inventory of Houston, We Have a Problem!, Ignite, Island Jewel and many many more.
It sucks this happened, and Chip (Dude) is still stuck in Houston waiting to get his truck road worthy for the trip back to Columbus. If anyone in Texas sees any of this stuff at Flea Markets, Swap Meets etc., please let me or Chip know about it.
There are many less of the Caveat Emptors available now, I am honoring all the promises I made before ZestFest and you guys will get first dibs, we will get those of you who have sent Nick emails next in the order they were sent.

Cajohn and Chip, we are especially sorry for your loss. We had given serious consideration to doing that show in Houston, but because of time constraints, we did not. Had we of, who knows, we may have been hit as well, or we may have been next to you, up and about and prevented it. From the sounds of things, it will be difficult for these cretins to unload what they have taken. In this huge country of 300 million, it is a very small place indeed and I believe that you realize now how many friends you have. Good luck to everyone that has their eyes open watching!
I got to know CaJohn and AB (Chip, ask him why) this weekend and I am so sorry to hear about everything. Matty and I are just overjoyed to know such people as CaJohn, AB, Carol, Randy, and Mark. I changed up my jerky recipe a little. When i work out the exact combo, I’ll send ya another sample for a professional opinion this time. Completely different all the way around. Used some sliced beef for a change. I still like the easy to make and chew ground meat stuff, but the sliced with the liquid marinade turned out very well. I used a vacuum sealer to do the marinade, cut the time in half at least.

I just got off the phone with Chip. In fact I’ve talked with him once or twice daily since Monday. He tells me that he’s being well taken care of by insurance and that repairs are in full swing on his truck. I forgot to ask if the trailer was ok but he didn’t mention it so I assume it’s pullable. Hopefully he’ll be on his way home within a couple of days.
I also have some pics of the vendors I’ll try to post tonight.

I was tossing this around in my head for a bit, and wasnรขโฌโขt going to mention it. I feel as though I need to put my 2 cents in here though. It sucks what happened to CaJohn and his sauces, but thank God no one was hurt. Property can be replaced, people cant.
There are some thoughts I had out of this, and it is real simple when you think about it. Alot of talk and information gets exchanged here. Sometimes too much. I think everyone needs to rethink (a bit) what they say. Now I donรขโฌโขt mean comments about hot sauce, or busting on someone. Just the ones that talk about where you go and what you are doing from day to day. Telling รขโฌลthe worldรขโฌย you are going to be in a different state for X amount of days leads one to believe your รขโฌลhomeรขโฌย could be empty. It may or may not be, but announcing to the world your whereabouts isnรขโฌโขt a good thing. You know what thay say about crooks reading the obituaries so they know when families will be at a funeral. Even talking about going to work, and when you get home, go to bed etc. There are patterns that can be drawn up. If you think about it, some of รขโฌลusรขโฌย know more about what goes on in your life then even your families know. I could probably tell you alot about frequent commentors on here and what their daily lives are like just based on what I read. Now for manufacturers, they cant necessarily help it. If there is a show, they will be there, thats a given. Its all the itinerary that doesnt need to be mentioned. Hell, looking back, we even mentioned who was staying where in Texas. Easy to figure out where you will be parked at night, huh?
Remember, there are thousands of people that read the blog, and how many of รขโฌลusรขโฌย actually post? Maybe 100. Just be careful when you mention something, and talk about your daily lives cause its not just รขโฌลusรขโฌย listening. Remember, some have huge amounts of money in collectibles, and even “display” their collection for all to see. As hot sauce grows, more and more people know how expensive some of those bottles are. Not trying to stop the comments, or put a damper on things. Its just somthing I noticed.

Always best to use caution when posting any personal info online. No matter how small or insignificant it can seem to be. I once called a guy at his work after not receiving an item on ebay. Wasn’t much info to go by, but itonly took one speck of info to track him down. I was nice, and I received my item in a timely manner after that as well. But it taught me to be more mindful of the info I made available.

I was lucky. We had someone brake into our house a few years ago. I should say the punks were lucky. My oldest son who stands 6’5″ 200lbs and 4 of his friends that are very big boys came home and saw something was wrong and caught 2 guys in house and beat the holy sh$% out of them. I’m glad I came home when I did. I think I save the punks from a real bad beating. They both got 3 years. But they only did about half the time there out now. No worrys now DK turn me on to the Gators they work great. The only problem is the nieghbor dogs keep running away. Well that’s what we tell them.

……..Captain’s log, 4 niner astro vega..whatever that means…Carol, T, myself and Carol’s friend and daughter visited the dark underbelly (Not Danny Cash) of the flea Market world….&^%%^&%^..ONLY to find out from an anonymous source that the perps have been uncovered…Complete with address from Holiday Inn securty tape of theft ..We promptly headed to the Katy area where plate was traced..BUT Carold had to vist little girls room so we stopped at a Hooters thanks to quick thing from T…next thing I know I am at BYOM (bring your owm meat) night at the First Tee Bar..will do surveilence tomorrow….
