Anyone in the San Francisco area have any restaraunt suggestions? It looks like the Prince of Wales Pub (home of the habanero burger) has closed, otherwise I’d go there. I’m flying out tonight for a client meeting on Friday and my return flight doesn’t leave until later Friday night – so I have a few hours to kill in San Francisco. Short notice, but anyone have any ideas or suggestions for restaraunts? I figure after the meeting, I’m going to want to wind down and grab some grub.

Go to the STINKING ROSE on Columbus. It’s all garlic restaurant.
The Stinking rose is`still there?? I owned a Restaurant 20 yrs ago there. There are quite a few Cafe’s on Colombus Ave. ( lived in North Beach) Try Little Joes ( if its still there). Hit the bars on Green St (Gino & Carlo’s) You’ll find plenty of grub in North Beach.
The Stinking Rose is way over rated and not that good. I lived in the Bay Area my whole life and know quite a few great restaurants. If I were to recommend just one, it would be Betlenut. It’s on Union Street. The best Asian tapas you’ll ever have! If you want a great burger, either Barney’s in the Marina, or the Grub Steak. If you want awesome Mexican, El Farolito in the Mission. Depends on what kind of food you want. Not really sure about any places specailizing in fiery foods.
There’s this little joint on the Wharf…down on the end past all of the touristy stuff called Pompeii’s Grotto. http://www.mcn.org/a/pompei/
There’s no view, but the food is great! It’s family owned and operated and has been there forever. It’s within walking distance of Gihradelli (sp?) square.
I would suggest you go check out the Fairy Plaza Building. It is a foodies paradise. Hopefully you will be there on a market day. It is still a destination stop. Bring a ton of money, because you will be spending!!

Thats the Ferry Plaza Building. The Fairy Plaza Building is over in the Castro.
that must be near 18th street
By the way is old Frank Pompeii still alive??I was his Head Chef.
the Wendy’s on market street has frostys. so that’s pretty good.
There is no Wendy’s on Market Street. The last one closed about 2 years ago. As a matter of fact, there is no Wendy’s in S.F. at all.
The Prince of Wales has reopened as another name at the same location. I am told the Habanero Burger is still served.

No Wendy’s?!? I guess I can scratch San Francisco off my list of places to visit… 🙂
Do they at least have a Taco Bell?
there is a Wendy’s it’s over by slazenger park.
The original Prince of Wales Pub in SF is no more. Some jerk off bought the building and evicted the owners, but kept the bar and it’s name (more like stole it). It is not the same place. The original Prince of Wales Pub however has reopened in nearby San Mateo and is still serving up their famous habanero burger.
106 East 25th Avenue, San Mateo, 94403. TEL: 650.574.9723
the one at the park is gone
I will meet you and take you on a tour! I know the killer Mexican places. San Francisco is pathetic for Hot Sauce shops. We will not go by the Castro. (Unless your wife gives permission)!
Paul, think you are a little late. He left on the 18th, intentions are noted.
Yep, I’ve been to SF and back already – finally caught up on my sleep! Now it’s time to prepare for Toronto this weekend!

Get your rest. I’m still trying to recover from full-blown bronchitis and a wonderful moderate case of pneumonia. Just got back from Virginia from a Civil War shoot…Nothing like nearly passing out on the shooting line. 🙂
I love the stinking rose! I’ve been in San Fran for 8 years now and I can’t get enough of thier GARLIC! The place may be smelly but it is well worth the flavors!
TALK ABOUT GRUB! The Stinking Rose has been my favorite restaurant since I moved to San Francisco 5 years ago… They fill me up right every time! You are definitely going to want to check it out if you have a chance!
Hay Nancy…if you like garlic you can’t help not to like the Stinking Rose
I moved back East 18 yrs ago…….The Rose was in its prime then…..
Could smell the garlic all the way to Broadway…..thanks for a stroll down memory lane……..GOOD MORNING
