Here we have a slightly different slant on the Chilli Ketchup theme, this time its main flavouring is Jerk, I am not very well experienced with Jerk Seasoning so this is a refreshing change for me. For those unaccustomed like me Jerk is native to Jamaica and the two main ingredients are All spice and Scotch Bonnet Chilli’s.
This bottle is a hefty 390g and sports the usual Hot-Headz branding. There is plenty of sauce visible through the bottle and it appears to be a usual Ketchup consistency and a nice dark brown consistency with black flecks running through it.
Opening the bottle I am met with sweet smoky tomato aroma, looking on the ingredients list, it mentions “liquid smoke”. This is way of capturing the flavour of smoke by burning wood like mesquite and passing the smoke through water, which cools the smoke and the residue is then collected and mixed with water to create smoke flavoured water. It is useful as an ingredient as it adds the smoky flavour but nothing else.

Tasting the ketchup I can immediately detect the tamarind, something I have grown to like in recent months. Then there is the Scotch Bonnet burn, a very gentle burn but lets you know it’s there. After that all the other ingredients (and there are a few) blend together to create the Jerk taste.
Smoky flavours are not everyone’s cup of tea but this certainly is, it is not vinegary at all which is nice to see although there is cane vinegar in there.
If you are looking for a hot ketchup, then this is not it, but if you want something with a slight heat but also some awesome flavours then give this a try and at £3.49, you get a fair bit of sauce for your money.
