Bottom Line

I like the product and the heat isn’t totally unbearable. It’s just hot enough to make you question your sanity, but with the right amount of popcorn flavor that tricks you into coming back time and time again.

The Hottest Popcorn. Ever.

Now that’s a bold claim. And certainly there are a lot of “hottest” products out there in the world, but when this package of Cornferno arrived at the office, I was intrigued. I’ve never been shy about my love of spicy snack foods and in some cases, extreme hatred, and since it was a product that needed nothing else to give it a proper evaluation I was able to dive directly in.

And by dive in, I mean, try one little kernel. I’m no rookie after all, nor do I have anything to prove.

On first taste, the heat is there thanks to the Habanero peppers. You’ll most likely cough a little. Then the searing pain begins (thanks to the Ghost Peppers) to build on your tongue and you question what in the heck you just put in your mouth. But then, the heat recedes and you almost want another kernel. And about 5 minutes after that, you decide to eat another kernel because it’s popcorn afterall and the cycle starts all over again.

In an 8 hour work day at my desk, I was able to get through an entire bowl of Cornferno. With the help of several glasses of water and miscellaneous other snacks.

Heaven help you it a kernel gets stuck in your teeth and keeps the heat going a little while longer. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Overall – I like the product and the heat isn’t totally unbearable. It’s just hot enough to make you question your sanity, but with the right amount of popcorn flavor that tricks you into coming back time and time again.

Now, I will say, I’m not a gourmet popcorn expert – but $60 for a bag of popcorn is a bit much in my opinion. But it is a very large bag of gourmet popcorn and I’m sure the amount of ghost pepper in the bag warrants the price. But given the heat level, I would love to see smaller bags for sell and perhaps mixed bags. For example, ½ Cornferno and ½ Caramel corn. A little balance of sweet with this heat level would be well received I’m sure.
