North East Chilli Fest 2012 Report and Pictures
When the organisers launched the dates for the 1st North East Chilli Festival to be held in July promising that it would be one of the summer’s hottest event.
Things were looking good for what promised to be an amazing inaugural event and 60 stall holders were quickly signed up. Confident was high that the people of the North East would lap up the hot wares from around the UK and the USA.
The Chilli Pepper Company, Chilli Pepper Pete, Hot Headz, Mr Vikkis and even The Dartmoor Chilli Farm (which is about as far as you can get from Newcastle) were joined by the great and the good of the uk chilli scene making a fantastic mix of UK based chilli providers with some local traders doing chilli specials added to giving a good mix of stalls.
With a fantastic venue, great stall holders, great bands and a street food market nothing could go wrong or could it ….
As the date got nearer the rain rained and rained events got cancelled and the north east chilli festival could have ended before it began ……………
But on the night of the event a strange thing happened, somehow the organisers came good on their promise …… It stopped raining
The morning of the event saw crowds flocking all enthusiastically to the festival in there droves , Stalls were cleared by the North East chilli aficionados, many stalls selling two days of stock the 1st morning. The people of the North East came with so much enthusiasm and passion taking stall holders by storm.
With a great section of food stalls on the front plus a street food market and a 7500 sq. ft. entertainment marquee on the back the event was a mix of food market meets music festival, people bought ate and drank the day away and the day ended with the fantastic chilli eating competition run by Chilli Pepper Pete.
Sunday had a more relaxed family vibe and even Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final didn’t stop the people coming in there masses
As the curtain came up to what was a fantastic 1st Festival only one thing was ever going to happen and as the last person left the site.
Yes you guessed it started raining.
Editors Note: Our Great Thanks to Mark Deakin at the Hot Stuff Chilli Company for his report and pictures of the event.
